### 2/5 — Used to be great

*2026-06-13, version 4.8.1*

Broken on OS26

### 4/5 — Great, just want zhuyin + autoplay stroke order

*2025-11-26, version 4.7*

Very good app.

### 3/5 — Solid app

*2025-08-20, version 4.7*

Hot keys for trainer don't work. Show solution hot key always brings me to search tab

=====

I like the history of searches and color coding.

I would request to be able to increase the font size of the history as it can be a bit too small.

The font size reader doesn't affect the search

Also to be able to change the pink color highlight as it can contrast with the color coding and be difficult to read

### 4/5 — Hot keys for trainer could be more convenient

*2024-11-23, version 4.7*

Solid app. Hot keys for trainer could be more convenient. Option + Shift + keys isn’t as convenient as just entering Space bar, R, W for the trainer mode. Please change the hot key configuration

### 4/5 — Fantastic app but

*2024-11-23, version 4.7*

Wish it had a feature to save words and be able to study them. The stroke by stroke could show automatically like a gif

### 5/5 — Solid app

### 3/5 — Why does my iPad not restore purchases?

*2024-09-17, version 4.7*

Why?

### 5/5 — Excellent Chinese-English Dictionary

*2024-06-26, version 4.7*

I’ve been using this dictionary for years. As a native English speaker studying Chinese, I find it straightforward, easy-to-use, and reliable. I know it has other features as well (e.g. saving flash cards for memorization practice, which I used for awhile and found helpful), but most of the time I stick with its basic dictionary function. I will use other dictionaries for example sentences, Chinese-language definitions, or more in-depth character history, but this one is still a very good first-stop resource for a quick, accurate English translation of a word or character.

### 5/5 — App and support outstanding…

*2024-06-17, version 4.7*

I have been using the app for years. I love the flashcards, daily sets, and the ability to search and study without the internet. Just a great app.

As we all know sometimes when you update your Apple device things go a little screwy, well this happened twice to me and reset several apps including KTDict. No advanced features 0-:

I contacted the developers and both time I received immediate responses and resolutions without having to purchase the upgrades again (and again).

If you are planning on learning Chinese get the app and buy the upgrade….. and then use it, it really helps

### 5/5 — The best app for learning Cantonese

*2024-05-28, version 4.7*

This app helped me prepare a short speech at a wedding lunch for my wife’s family. It also helps me to learn how to translate and pronounce words I encounter while walking around Hong Kong. It’s like having a native speaker with me at all times!

I hope they soon include the option to give Jyutping pronunciation (and/or Yale Romanization) for Cantonese learners. So far, the Hong Kong voice setting has allowed me to learn the pronunciation of different characters, but having Jyutping would be a great addition

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2023-10-26, version 4.6*

I’ve tried a variety of Chinese translation apps, none of them are as easy to use and comprehensive as this across various platforms.

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2023-09-27, version 4.6*

This is an excellent mac app! It's perfect for learning Chinese as a second language.

### 5/5 — Clear quick consistent and complete

*2023-08-14*

It has no frills which is excellent. It is clear, consistent and contains a large number of definitions.

### 4/5 — Great app

*2023-05-12, version 4.3.1*

I’ve used this app for ten years and it basically taught me chinese.

Current condition: the reader freezes when selecting text and the whole app is unresponsive

### 3/5 — Once Great

*2023-01-25, version 4.3.1*

This app is regularly updated, but perhaps that is the problem? It works great on my tablet, but on the iphone you type in pinyin and choose characters and then want to zoom in and see each character or show someone even older than me full screen and the app glitches. Go back to KISS method. Keep It Simple Stupid, because now I hesitate to pull the phone out knowing it wont do what it once did.

### 5/5 — Excellent app!

*2022-12-04, version 4.3.1*

Really good and use it every day! 👍👍👍

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Incompetent

*2026-08-08, version 4.8.3*

For a language app you’d think they’d be able to spell ‘Privacy Noice’ correctly. Fml

### 1/5 — Used to be a good app, now just ad filled garbage

*2025-11-23, version 4.7*

As above

### 1/5 — Canadian guy

*2023-10-31, version 4.6*

It took me a while to appreciate this app. Once I started playing around with it then I realized that it's very useful to me on my MacBook Air. You can type in English words or Hanzi or pinyin, Allows you to copy/paste

### 1/5 — Used to be good

*2022-11-22, version 4.3.1*

It worked really well but with the recent updates it crashes all the time.
Does not work sometimes inconsistently.

### 1/5 — 瑞典 is pronounced as "rui si dian"

*2022-10-02, version 4.3.1*

I was helping my Swedish students find a trustable Chinese dictionary app, your service worked fine until one of my student found her country's name 瑞典 is pronounced wrong. I hope you can fix the bug.

### 1/5 — Either loaded with advertisements or pay for the app.

*2021-07-04, version 4.0.3*

A lot of advertisements or the app would ask for a lot of payment.

### 1/5 — Used to be favorite now it is the worst

*2021-06-21, version 4.0.2*

They just ruined a really good app with a really bad update. I can no longer type in Chinese and quickly find a word. Settings are defaulted with a large font which even tough is set to smallest settings is huge. The app now gives you no choice but to scroll endlessly through proper nouns in English, then pinyin with everything defaulting to a-z order. I want my money back after using this for five years. You really messed it up! 😒

### 1/5 — Waste of money

*2019-12-25, version 3.2*

I would like to know why after I paid for the upgraded version I cannot now use the app as it does not work anymore??!

### 1/5 — It’s great dictionary. It’s easy and convenient to use. I love it.

*2019-09-05, version 3.2*

Great

### 1/5 — Good...but please make it better

*2016-10-10, version 2.9.1*

I've have been studying Chinese for a while now. I am currently living in China. I bought the app add on for the flash card trainer. However there are many words that it mispronounces. Example：呢 (pinyin:nē) the app pronounces it sounding like 'knee'; then 没关系 (pinyin: méi gūan xì) the app pronounces the 系(xì) like with a sound like the word "eye" (s/eye)....please fix or refund me my money.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great Dictionary

*2026-06-12, version 4.8.1*

I've been using it for 5 years, and find it much handier, with a better inventory of phrases, idioms, and general information. The newest update gives it a nicer interface, easier to read. It's in the cloud, so my inputs are shared on all devices.

### 5/5 — An excellent Chinese dictionary

*2026-05-29, version 4.7*

Not only good definitions and clear presentation, but also useful features like stroke order.

### 5/5 — Très bien

*2026-04-26*

Très pratique, simple d’utilisation, complet … et aussi en français.

### 5/5 — Let’s go

*2026-04-11, version 4.7*

It is awesome

### 5/5 — Does what it says it does.

*2025-11-18, version 4.7*

...

### 5/5 — Excellent for Cantonese & Mandarin

*2025-09-14, version 4.7*

Love that it has option for reading Cantonese as well. Best Chinese English dictionary app for Mandarin and Cantonese speakers!

### 5/5 — Super helpful - how to work stroke order?

*2025-07-03, version 4.7*

Super helpful app, for my Chinese learning - but how do I see the stroke order? When I click on the character of the word, there’s no order, it’s all the same shade of black. How does it work?

### 5/5 — ya y

*2025-06-01, version 4.7*

这种天气出门的人是真没救啦吧我觉得还是哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈我笑得哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈我笑得想哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈

### 5/5 — Clear quick consistent and complete

*2025-02-04, version 4.7*

It has no frills which is excellent. It is clear, consistent and contains a large number of definitions.
One can look up a definition by English, pinyin, simplified or traditional characters.
The only thing I can find that it lacks is Look up by stroke count.
It doesn’t appear to be have any glitches which is great. Chinese is hard enough without adding the worry of things sporadically going wrong.

### 5/5 — Best

*2024-12-02, version 4.7*

The best , better than any other famous dictionary
