Every day several times a day. There are reliability issues that come up once every two or three months. These can be everything from a crash to a simple failure to load. The other big issue is that, as noted below by many reviewers, the app itself is a bit messy and doesn’t follow many UI best practices for sophisticated mobile apps. So a bit of attention to underlying tech to correct the reliability problems and a complete redesign of the user interface to Simplify it, improve its appearance, and make Navigation more seamless is in order. That said, I also use the WNYC app Upon occasion and I find it even more difficult. The great content and ability to get to Radio West, local news stories, combined with Fresh Air, and the other big NPR shows makes the KUER app a must have for me. ### 4/5 — Works fine but... *2021-03-03* This app gets the job done, but I find it frustrating that I have to press play on a given story in order to see how long it is. Better labeling would be nice. When I click on a story to see the synopsis, there is NO time information. Even when internet here has fluctuated badly, the app just keeps on humming along. ### 5/5 — Intelligence *2019-04-20* Absolutely THEE most intelligent, respectful, equally represented talk radio station on the air in Utah and the country, from what I’ve found. I listen to other talk shows when there is a local or national issue at the moment and found the biased control of the “call filterers” is disheartening. I try time after time to sample those other programs but they have yet to NOT disgrace themselves. Like the ability to choose news, music etc. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — OK for what it is *2020-02-18* Given the generally poor quality expected of NPR affiliates, KUER's frustrating performance is almost bearable, though at times I have an impulse to throw my phone; like when I notice that the connection always begins with an advertisement (now routinely included in "non-commercial" programming) and that the ad always works, though often no program follows and I have to struggle to get what I came for. It's a demonstration of the pecking order of capitalism, with the best content on the bottom, poorly presented, the LDS station better presented but fraudulent, and pure commercial entertainment vacuously on technical top. ### 1/5 — Hate radio west!!!! *2019-09-13, version 3.9.24* Wow!! First you take over the 9am slot and ruin it forever; now you take over the 12pm slot and ruin my Friday lunch hour!! KUER will never get another dime from me! Shame on you!! I rate the KUER app one star which I find detestable and frustrating, especially when I am transitioning from the car radio to my smartphone. The app ads take too long to reach the actual programming. On too many occasions I cannot get past the ad which locks in place. I then have two options, delete the app and down load it again from the app store or, switch to my Phoenix NPR app and listen to that station. I do not have a similar problem or delay with the Phoenix NPR app. ### 1/5 — Refuses to Quit *2018-09-16, version 3.9.10* This app is determined to keep on playing, ignoring attempts to use the pause button on my iPod Touch. After many frustrating battles, I have removed this app and gone back to using the NPR app, which is well behaved. ### 2/5 — This app is infuriating *2017-03-29, version 3.8.4* It constantly freezes--always at the worst possible moment-- and then once it picks back up it's skipped ahead and you lose that past audio. Due to an apparent issue with the app, I could not listen between Oct 28-30. During this time, the intro would play, along with another super annoying commercial like announcement but the content would not play. I love the solid mix of global and domestic politics, strange biology and philosophical questioning, and the weird guests they have on sometimes. The only problem, or so I thought, was that it was fixed to my car radio. Turns out they have an app! I mean, it’s not the cleanest looking of all apps and it takes a second to load the current radio, but the simplicity is comforting, and it does the job flawlessly. I’d just returned from checking a friend’s home for signs of a break-in. But there I sat in the driver’s seat, car running, while meditating with show guest Jay Sherry. Finally, I made a break for it. I ran an inside, found & loaded app, then streamed It into my home speakers - barely skipping a beat! This lead to several wonderful hours with KUER while I checked-off my to-do list.
