No discussion. Two drawbacks: one smaller one more serious. Tha smaller one. Sometimes it is just unhandlich to make a photo first. A live version would be nice. The more serious one, at least for learners: if you do want to learn a language with a different writing system than your own, it would be very nice, if you could copy the symbols and put them into your learning sheets. But coping is not working. **Developer response:** Thank you for the kind words and the clear feedback. Voice conversation translation is on our roadmap for the next major version, so you’ll be able to translate spoken conversations more naturally. You can take a photo or upload one and it translates the photo/menu for you! It also works for ingredient translations and receipts! I NEVER give reviews but the app only lets you take 4 pictures and then it makes you have to pay for it. I used the app when I was in Japan and needed things translated during an emergency. If I could rate it 0 stars I would :/ ### 1/5 — IT WILL COST UOU *2026-07-04* Danger. It will override any translation app you have. When you first open it. You need to subscribe. Only 2 free translation a day. That is it. Then you’re doomed. To remove app, I’ll prompt you to choose another translation app. No work around. Then you’re able to delete. Don’t even bother to get this app. Stick with the leader Google Translate. **Developer response:** When you set Kuli Kuli as the system translation app (which is also unlimited free), iOS requires you to switch the system translator to another app before you can uninstall Kuli Kuli. This is an Apple iOS limitation, not something we control—sorry for the inconvenience. If it still happens, email us at contact@kulikuli.app with your device model and iOS version—we'll help right away. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work *2026-04-10* I tried this app multiple times over my 2-week trip to Tokyo U.S. g it on printed and handwritten Japanese and it didn’t work. I ended up using Google Translate instead. **Developer response:** Sorry it didn’t work well during your Tokyo trip. We’ve made several improvements to Japanese text recognition and camera translation since then, especially for printed text and real-world signs. If you’re open to it, please give the latest version another try. It’s far superior to google translate which just gives you word for word translations. I love how Kuli Kuli gives you context & displays translations in a clear, easy-to-read format. It even highlights allergens, which is incredibly helpful for people with food allergies or dietary requirements. It’s intuitive, user-friendly & very accurate. Honestly, this app has been a game changer. I used it on countless occasions: historical signs only in Japanese and many appliances also in only Japanese. It works insanely quick and gives you not only an accurate translation of several lines or buttons but will often times give background information.
