### 3/5 — App should utilize pass through HomeKit notifications

*2025-10-19, version 1.2.1*

I have had the Kwikset Premis 919-K lock since 2017 and absolutely love it. I have really wanted to see Kwikset add better HomeKit integration in the form of passing through the information of the names of users who are unlocking. As it is right now, we have that information within the app, but I really love that I get notifications of locking/unlocking within the Apple Notifications... it would be a rockstar app if it would go further by passing the user name, etc. through on those notifications. I would also like to see the app and notifications state the name of the person unlocking via their iPhone (ex: when I tell Siri or HomeKit on my iPhone to unlock or lock my door, even the app ignores who it is and just informs that the locking/unlocking was done by “iPhone”. It should say who’s iPhone.

By addressing these small changes/additions, this lock and app would get 5 stars from me.

### 1/5 — Would not buy lock again

*2023-10-29, version 1.2.0*

App is slow and usually cannot find lock. Don’t buy if you want a app driven lock

### 1/5 — Stopped working

*2023-10-19, version 1.2.0*

Have had this about 6 months. Now it gets jammed and won’t lock or unlock. Go with a different lock. Kevin set has really gone to garbage products!!

### 1/5 — Zero stars

*2023-10-15, version 1.2.0*

WOW! This app is completely worthless. I’ve downloaded is 3 times and all I get is a grey screen. No prompts, no instructions, nothing. I tap app support in the App Store and the page cannot be found. You guys have got to be kidding me. This lock came with my home and does not work at all with android so I get an iPad and it apparently doesn’t work with apple either. What a complete piece of garbage. This lock is going in the trash. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2023-10-10, version 1.2.0*

This is the most infuriating and unhelpful experience I’ve ever had with an app. I can’t get my lock installed because these directions only give me three options and none of them apply plus there are no answers online. Do not buy this lock or bother with this app.

### 1/5 — Not worth the one star

*2023-10-05, version 1.2.0*

No part of this lock or app works your best off removing batteries and using as a dumb lock

### 1/5 — Do not buy it!

*2023-07-16, version 1.2.0*

The app will not work on apple phone. I reported to Customer service support. Still no update or changes. If you bought one do return it. I am now contacting BBB and Amazon about this product misrepresentation
Sincerely
Mike

### 1/5 — Bad software

*2023-07-03, version 1.2.0*

Bad software

### 1/5 — Won’t find my new lock

*2023-05-19, version 1.2.0*

Such a frustrating waste of time and money.

### 1/5 — NEEDS A MAJOR SOFTWARE UPDATE ASAP

*2023-04-05, version 1.2.0*

Where is your software update????? This must be a joke !!! No update for the last 3 years smh who is in charge here because they need to be replaced

### 1/5 — No longer works!

*2023-03-29, version 1.2.0*

It use to be great, however now it doesn’t work with iPhone.

### 2/5 — Has issues

*2023-03-12, version 1.2.0*

The app and the lock have major issues with Apple Homekit. The app and homekit connect only while on the home network. Rarely outside do you have the ability to control the lock.

### 3/5 — Could be better

*2023-03-05, version 1.2.0*

I suggest y’all hire employees from August. The notification for this app almost useless. The notification should say Front Lock in Home is unlocked by (user) and not Front Lock in Home is Locked on Mar 4, 9:27 PM. I do not care to know the date and time. That is useless information. That information should be in the history report, not current live notifications.

### 1/5 — Junk

*2023-01-26, version 1.2.0*

Instruction PDFs won’t scroll down. 11 pages but you can only see two. Returning the lock. Can’t trust this company to get simple tech right beware.

### 2/5 — Logging?

*2022-12-28, version 1.2.0*

How about an easy way to see WHO opened the door when for at least the past 24 hours?
Not half as useful an app without features like these.

### 1/5 — Unavailable

*2022-11-27, version 1.2.0*

Most of the time it says, “lock unavailable.”

### 1/5 — NEEDS MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS

*2022-10-28, version 1.2.0*

For $300 “smart” deadbolts, the app should look like it’s from this decade….

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Only works when you’re standing there.

*2026-04-03, version 1.2.1*

This lock and app are only a couple of years old, yet already feel outdated and unreliable. Using an iPhone 15 Pro Max (iOS 26.3.1) with Apple TV as my Home hub (tvOS 26.4), it only works when I’m right next to the door.

Remote access through HomeKit rarely works and often shows the lock as unavailable. Even basic connectivity is inconsistent.

For a smart lock, this is unacceptable. It shouldn’t take constant troubleshooting just to lock or unlock a door.

### 1/5 — Horrible app

*2025-12-20, version 1.2.1*

Do not buy these locks or use this app. They never work. You are just buying a very expensive deadbolt. The lock is always “unavailable” and cannot be locked/unlocked remotely. Would give it a 0 star if I could.

### 1/5 — Not compatible with HomeKit

*2025-08-03, version 1.2.1*

Now the lock won’t connect to HomeKit unless you are standing right next to the lock with the app open.

### 1/5 — What’s wrong with this??

*2025-07-23, version 1.2.1*

All these terrible reviews and zero responses. As soon as I left the house, all I get is lock not available . Useless

### 1/5 — No longer works

*2024-11-02, version 1.2.1*

I can no longer add codes to or unlock my door. I spoke to the company and they reported no calls about this. Please call asap.

### 1/5 — Is this supposed to work

*2024-05-07, version 1.2.1*

Really ugly gray screen of death. What this tells me is kwikset’s passion for innovation is dead. Or the company is dead.

### 1/5 — Lock not available

*2024-04-07, version 1.2.0*

Why? All the time it seems like. When I want to do something with it this is the message I receive. Why? The fix. Delete and redownload. Such a pain. It should not be this difficult or annoying. When it works, it’s great. Which that is not much of the time. Kwikset needs to unscrew this or apple does or both together. It’s dumb.

### 1/5 — This app doesn’t work

*2024-03-16, version 1.2.0*

The app cannot even discover its own locks. A pointless app. Seems no updates have been made to it in years.

### 1/5 — Stopped working randomly??

*2024-01-06, version 1.2.0*

This app was perfectly fine until a couple weeks ago. Now, all of a sudden, it can’t find my lock and I have no idea how much battery life is left. I tried deleting and reinstalling the lock as a new one but nothing happened. Thankfully the lock didn’t actually delete and I can still use my normal passcode.

Will y’all please update this app?? 4 years without an update, seriously?!

### 1/5 — Terrible!

*2023-12-23, version 1.2.0*

Please update this app to work with the newest iOS and HomeKit Updates!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — 1 HomeKit SmartLock

*2025-06-28, version 1.2.1*

Been using Premis deadbolt lock for a year and eight months, I have zero complaints. About a year ago the app was a little wonky but now everything is perfect. Thank you Kwikset for making the perfect HomeKit deadbolt. I have recommended this product to tons of my friends and they love it too. Kwikset tech support is amazing too. A+

*UPDATE 6/27/25:

After 6 geat years, I had to retire my Kwikset Premis smartlock due to the harsh outdoor weather conditions. I really had zero issues with this lock during its life and decided to upgrade to the Kwikset Halo Select. (Only ditched the Premis because it cosmetically was looking rough)

Kwikset has impressed me again with their new Halo Select’s Apple Home Thread Matter experience. If you are an Apple HomeKit or Apple Home user, this really is the best smartlock for the Apple ecosystem. If you are looking to replace your Premis, look no further than the Kwikset Halo Select. A+

### 5/5 — Works fine in 2023

*2023-09-24, version 1.2.0*

While there are newer locks, I wanted something to integrate with my pretty extensive existing Homekit setup. Despite some critical reviews I decided to give it (Premis lock) a shot. I have an AppleTV 4k about 30 feet from the door this is in, and an iPhone 14 (iOS 17). I set it up using the iPhone 14, integrating it into my existing home. Worked immediately from both the phone, and using HomeKit via Siri from other devices. Incorporated it into an automation with no issues. Works perfectly with all devices. If I have problems with the next OS update, I'll report back, but happy so far.

### 5/5 — 10/10 recommend

*2023-02-27, version 1.2.0*

The app is user-friendly, and I was able to download the app and easily connect it to my lock.

### 5/5 — 1 HomeKit SmartLock

*2020-12-12, version 1.2.0*

Been using Premis deadbolt lock for a year and eight months, I have zero complaints. About a year ago the app was a little wonky but now everything is perfect. Thank you Kwikset for making the perfect HomeKit deadbolt. I have recommended this product to tons of my friends and they love it too. Kwikset tech support is amazing too. A+

### 5/5 — Finally, it’s working again!

*2020-01-04, version 1.2.0*

I’m giving this 5 stars again after a very long awaited update where I questioned the company’s commitment to its customers. The app was broken with iOS 13 and I couldn’t change any settings on my Premis lock. Fortunately, unlock/lock still worked from the Home App, otherwise I would have ditched the lock entirely.

### 5/5 — Was broken works again

*2020-01-03, version 1.2.0*

This app stopped working about a year ago. No idea why it took a year to fix the HomeKit functionality that broke, but now that it’s fixed, the app does work very well again.

### 5/5 — Only took 2 years for an update, but it works again

*2019-12-31, version 1.2.0*

SOOOO glad the app was finally updated. It worked great before iOS13 and all of a sudden it no longer worked. Thank for getting the task done.

On the flip side, I DO have some suggestions:
1) more detail on when the lock is locked/unlocked...who’s phone unlocked it?
2) the ability to reboot the lock if it’s acting weird.
3) the ability for the lock to give me a notification on my phone when the battery is getting low.
4) speed up the HomeKit interaction.
5) ability to see if/when an update is ready/available for the lock itself.

### 5/5 — No issues UNTIL iOS 13

*2019-09-30*

I have 4 of these locks at 4 different Airbnb properties that I manage. I can remotely set user codes that are time/date limited, set codes for cleaners, unlock using the app or HomeKit remotely, etc. They’ve been great!! UNTIL...

iOS 13 completely broke ALL of the above functionality. All if the codes I had in the locks at the time I updated still work on the lock touchscreen, but the locks have disappeared in my app and HomeKit won’t work. I deleted the homes, re-added them, and it’s totally hit-miss as to whether they work with the app.

PLEASE!!! UPDATE THIS APP!! I don’t want to spend nearly $1,000 on different door locks when this has functioned so perfectly until 10 days ago.

### 5/5 — iOS 12 compatibility

*2018-11-16, version 1.1.1*

When is this app going to be updated to work with iOS 12? As many others have stated it’s worthless you have to be within a couple feet of the lock in order to connect, at that point you’re just better off using the key — which defeats the whole purpose of the entire thing.

### 4/5 — Underrated

*2021-12-25, version 1.2.0*

I have had this lock for a year and 2 iOS versions. We have had the occasional hiccup with it not responding (as is the case with MANY smart devices) but overall I’m very pleased. I bought a second one for my basement door. Works great with Siri or with the touchpad. There is an automation for opening it when we arrive at home which works very well. We have replaced the batteries once so far with standard batteries and will do again this week with lithium ones. The app is minimal but we use Apple home for everything anyway. The app is a backup and has worked for us.
