### 5/5 — Great app 🥳

*2022-02-28*

Enjoying the introduction so far. Great prompts. Thankful for the “generous god”

**Developer response:** I already corrected that on the update! What a stupid mistake! Thanks for the tip

### 4/5 — Has mistakes, but still good

*2021-11-25*

For $3 this app is a steal. It really does a great job at teaching you the difficult grammatical concepts of Icelandic. However I have come across several mistakes. They are mostly small spelling errors, but still - unacceptable. In lesson 8 for example, the wrong accented vowels are used in the possessive pronouns chart. The fact that I was able to find them despite being a novice learner doesn’t give me the highest confidence in the app’s accuracy. I have also found the vocabulary in each lesson to be completely random and not useful. Why did we learn the verb “to puke” in lesson one? Most of them don’t even come back up in the exercises at the end of the lesson. Use this app to learn grammar, learn vocabulary elsewhere.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2021-08-08*

I am only one module in but so far this is amazing. So much detailed information that is digestible and easy to make sense of (from a linguist point of view!). If you want to make things more comprehensible for the public, maybe try adding a definition for words like diphthong (like the user can click on it similar to Duolingo) or replace it with a phrase such as two vowels next to each other?

Anyways good work!

### 4/5 — Learn Icelandic with this Cool App this summer

*2021-07-07, version 1.31*

The price is right and there are written and spoken lessons in bitesized chips - just keep your notebook handy. There are some slight bugs or annoyances that if they were sorted could give a five star rating.

### 1/5 — Used to be great, but…

*2025-05-29*

This app used to be great. Clear explanations, good review exercises, nice bite sized lessons…. I lapsed in using the app and my phone offloaded the app for size saving and I went to redownload it to start back up again. It downloaded onto my phone fine but the app will not open anymore. I tried opening the app several times and it crashes immediately. Currently completely unusable.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2024-07-07*

This app looked really good when I bought it, but after trying to use it for a while it’s pretty clear it has two major flaws. The biggest issue is that there’s no audio, which is weird considering the most recent update listed was apparently giving the app a new audio system. The other major issue is that if I leave partway through a lesson, there’s no way to get back to where I left off without going through the whole thing again. It also doesn’t tell me how much longer I have until the end of a lesson.

I think this app could be really good, but as it is now it just doesn’t function.

**Developer response:** Hi there, I'm trying to solve the problem with the audio and I will add checkpoints on the next update. For now, make sure that the phone is not in silence, that is what is blocking the audio (side button).

### 1/5 — Audio does not work

*2023-09-17*

Purchased this app to practice more with audio of correct pronunciation. It does not work despite me reinstalling app, restarting phone, and checking volume. Disappointed.

### 1/5 — Audio doesn’t work

*2022-08-09*

On my downloaded version, none of the audio works at all, which totally defeats the purpose of this app (and paying for it!). Reached out to app support to report the bug and ask for guidance and never heard back. If the app worked, It looks fantastic and I think it would prob be 5 stars.

### 2/5 — No sound…stil

*2023-07-20*

It would be great if the sound actually worked. I left the app for a while (after paying for it and being no disappointed by the lack of audio). I checked again maybe a year later…still no sound. I press the button for audio and nothing happens, even with my phone audio turned all the way up.

I really wish they would fix this. It looks like a cool app but I really need the audio to be a part of it.

### 2/5 — Mistakes and Improvements

*2022-02-17*

Well, right off the bat during the first slide of the first lesson it keeps referencing “Spanish”, even calling the app “Label Spanish”. So, I think there’s some editing that needs done. Also, during the initial alphabet lessons it would be helpful to use words that exemplify the letters that are being taught on the individual slides. I gotta say for the lack of organization and proofreading mistakes, this app isn’t currently worth any money. There’s not even any settings or help section in the app to contact the developer with this issues.

**Developer response:** That is embarrassing! I'm pushing a new update right now to solve that. I'm preparing a Spanish course too and I probably got things mixed up :( As soon as apple approves the update the changes will be there. You can use labelicelandic@gmail.com for any issue

### 3/5 — Amazing app, but doesn’t work on my phone

*2023-02-07*

I love this app and have been using it for months! As other reviews have mentioned, there are a couple mistakes, but honestly the interface and structure are so intuitive, & the instruction so good at clarifying some really tricky grammatical rules, that I love using it and it motivates me to continue learning Icelandic.

Unfortunately, ever since I got a new iphone (was using a 6s, now have a 13 Pro on IOS 16.0.2) the app has fully refused to open. I cannot access it at all; it quits before the title screen even appears. I have had to keep my old 6s around and continue learning on there.

I’d love to give this app 5 stars, but I can’t until it works on my phone, lol—help?

### 3/5 — Interesting approach

*2023-01-24*

A number of mistakes and no way to report them or provide direct feedback. Approach to teaching is sort of wonky- OK as a review but i wouldn't recommend for someone just learning the language. One very nice aspect is the Íslandingur who pronounced the vicabulary words- slow and clear! Provides cultural facts but they are on a timer and often turn off before you can finish reading them.

### 4/5 — Amazing app, one drawback for me.

*2022-07-17*

Love the app but I wish we could type in answers with our keyboard. Perhaps this could be some type of toggle option. I find myself wasting more time than I’d like trying to find the letters when I already know the answer & could complete it way quicker otherwise. Other than this, I’ve loved the app & it’s been a great stepping stone resource to expand my passive vocabulary & understanding the major parts of Icelandic grammar.

### 4/5 — Decent

*2022-06-02*

I like using this app but would enjoy it so much more and use it more if the spelling exercises were gone or optional.

I usually end up googling what the Icelandic translation is because a lot of the vocabulary in the prompts to spell out with the letter grid have vocabulary or grammar structures that are unfamiliar or only briefly mentioned before.

Big leap from matching vocabulary to having to spell it out in a 4 or 5 word sentence with only 3 chances to make a mistake.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — iOS 26

*2025-11-25, version 1.59*

Could you update to the newest version of iOS? I can’t open anymore after I updated. Thank you so much

### 5/5 — Audio Works!

*2025-02-05*

For those concerned about the reviews that claim the audio doesn't work, I gambled and bought the app; I'm happy to report the audio does work and sounds great! This app seems very well put together, so I'm pleased with my purchase.

### 5/5 — Excellent program

*2025-01-17*

So far this has been the best online Icelandic course I have found. My only small suggestion is to have the section for typing out the sentences be able to be advanced manually, rather than automatically, to allow some time to digest what was just learned.

### 5/5 — Best app for learning Icelandic

*2024-10-03, version 1.59*

I’ve been wanting to improve my Icelandic for years and this app is finally getting me there. The lessons build up gradually so you don’t feel overwhelmed. Everything is explained well and you can see a lot of care has been put into this app. Icelandic is such a difficult language but made a lot easier with this app. Thank you so much!

### 5/5 — Godsend!

*2024-07-07*

The audio is working now. Such a great app for only 3.99 dollars. The developer is an angel. Period.

### 5/5 — Great Course

*2024-02-08, version 1.59*

This is a awesome course if you’re having a dificult time in learning icelandic grammar which is very hard. I loved the simplicity and straightfoward way of teaching. However, there are some glitches and bugs here and there that can make the app experience a little bit annoying, but it is bearable and I didn’t mind too much.

### 5/5 — Excellent Resource

*2023-08-18, version 1.57*

Very well written & divided into sections. They have done so well at making learning a difficult language easier

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2022-11-29, version 1.56*

I’m currently taking Icelandic classes (in a classroom) and living in Iceland, this app reinforces what I’m learning in class and is a great study tool. I’m not a great classroom learner (easily distracted) so this gives me the back-up practice and study I need to keep making progress. Really great app, thanks to the creators for making it so accessible.

### 5/5 — The best deal possible

*2022-09-17*

For $3 you’ll get what I think is the best language-learning app there is. Tired of stupid exercises and boring lessons? This app is like learning from a native Icelander who lives across the street and pops by to help you learn. Recommend highly.

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2022-06-26*

This app is absolutely fantastic. I’ve had a passive interest in Icelandic for a long time, and have been looking for a straightforward way to learn with high quality audio from native speakers. This app here is the most useful source I’ve found thus far. Information is presented in clear slides, and then summarized in tables. There are tons of exercises after each lesson, with matching, spelling, constructing sentences, etc. I’d definitely recommend this app.
