### 4/5 — Search function not working

*2023-11-23*

Like the review below, I have used this app for years and it has been brilliant. Unfortunately now the search function is faulty. When search is clicked, the search bar is nearly fully hidden at the top of the screen. While can still search, I cannot see the search bar and once I have selected a fell, I cannot exit the search function or go back. I have to fully close the app and reopen. I really hope this can be fixed as this is my main way of planning all my routes. Thanks

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review. Testing with an iPhone 11 and iOS 17.1.1 doesn’t reproduce the fault in portrait mode. It does look like there is an issue in landscape mode. Please update to the latest version of iOS and retry in portrait mode.

### 5/5 — Fantastic app

*2022-01-25, version 2.1.1*

100% recommended this app, been an absolute lifesaver for me and made my walks so easy and stress free due to knowing where to go.

### 5/5 — Mountain Ready Reliability

*2021-08-24, version 2.1.1*

This is one of a very few apps that are fit for use in the mountains, simple, intuitive, reliable, works offline. Forget the rest, this does the important things really well! The mountain rescue have a motto “maps not apps”, this is the only exception IMO.

### 5/5 — Impressively accurate

*2021-07-31, version 2.1.1*

Really accurate app, all small parts precisely mapped. Highly recommend.

Takes a bit of getting used to, not the most impressive UX but nevertheless amazing.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2021-07-17, version 2.1.1*

This app was just what I needed. I had a printed walking guidebook but using in conjunction with this app I had zero issues about knowing where I was or which way I should be heading. Perfect app, thank you so much for creating it!!!! Can’t wait to go back to the lakes and put it to the test again.

### 5/5 — works well on Macbook Air M1

*2021-01-04, version 2.1.1*

Does what it's supposed to. Could do with a print facility. Doesn't show 1:25k wall boundaries.

### 5/5 — Excellence

*2020-11-27*

I’ve used the Lakes, Snowdonia, Yorkshire and Peak District apps for years now. I never normally leave reviews but was sharing the app with a friend and thought I would. The route mapping is great. I normally use ‘plot a route’ website online to plot my routes then send the route to my phone by email, save to files, then import. You can easily import routes already made online by gpx aswell. I rarely do it but can even plot routes on the app itself. The detail is great. I love being able to pinpoint my location. I can’t fault these apps. I’ve ticked off nearly all the Nuttalls using it. It’s been invaluable

### 4/5 — Lake District

*2020-10-25*

Fantastic maps very easy to use just spent a week in the Lake District using to navigate can’t get lost anymore 🤣 900 meters up in mist no visibility but this works perfect . Should also have a map and compass as back up. I have the Snowdonia one as well and regularly use brilliant. More parking detail would be fantastic for locations. Don’t hesitate to buy you will wonder what you did without it. Thank you .

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2020-10-18, version 2.1.1*

This App is a revelation- no need for bulky maps - just brilliant!

### 5/5 — Best in App Store

*2020-10-02, version 2.1.1*

I’ve been using this app for a couple of years now. It’s never let me down. Many times pulls me out from big trouble.
I have got now one for Yorkshire Dales, Snowdonia and Peak District as well. Worth every penny.

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2020-09-03, version 2.1.1*

First class app for getting a novice around the peaks of the Lake District.

### 5/5 — Mike R

*2020-08-12, version 2.1.1*

Excellent app. Very easy to use.

### 5/5 — Walking app.

*2020-08-07, version 2.1.1*

Can honestly say it’s the best walking app I have used.👍

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2020-08-01, version 2.1.1*

As others have said, I have the paper OS map and the app has additional footpaths that the OS map doesn’t. I also have the Peak District one and it gives you that extra bit of reassurance that you are where you think you are with the blue dot following you wherever you go. Works offline too.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — This will only download when you are told of the “secret” approach

*2021-05-19*

Bought this and tried to get it to install (on a fully IOS up to date iPhone 12 Pro Max) and it won’t install. The developer suggested the fix was to kill all open apps, which worked.

However, I waisted a load of time trying to make it work before they responded to this review a few days after purchase. So leaving as a one star until they update the app to fix this (I know of no other apps with this issue), or have an automatic installation email sent to people who purchase the app, or do something else that has a similar impact of reducing this annoyance.

**Developer response:** Response updated on 20/05/21. It’s pleasing to read the workaround we identified overcame the install issue. There is a delay between when reviews and responses are published as its assumed Apple preview the comments first. So, although our reply was given at the first opportunity, it will have been a few days before seen by the reviewer. Our web site provides a service to send messages which we can reply to more quickly. Thanks for updating your response to acknowledge the workaround helped. We hope you like the app now you have installed it. Finally, unfortunately the install issue will need to be fixed by Apple. We can only provide the given workaround.

Original response...
Please “kill” all the apps that are running in background and retry. This action is know to workaround the fault with the install.

### 1/5 — Lake District maps offline

*2020-10-28, version 2.1.1*

Can’t rate it or give a review as it won’t install on my iPhone XR. Please fix this problem or refund my £1.99

### 1/5 — Nag

*2020-07-13, version 2.1.1*

Daily nagging for review even after in app purchases.

### 1/5 — It wont download

*2020-01-20, version 2.1.1*

Why won’t it download to an iPhone 10?

### 1/5 — Not a good start

*2019-04-07, version 2.1.1*

...the app crashes on download! Wonder if they’ve charged me?

### 2/5 — Difficult to use

*2022-04-19, version 2.1.1*

Uploaded routes via GPX yet nothing shows on map

### 2/5 — Disappointed

*2017-05-16*

Really not what I expected.

I was looking for a map that already had many walks defined so I could follow them.

At the very minimum, I want something that would record where I did walk so that I would have a log and could possibly do it again my next visit.

This app did neither. Just a map with trails. Very disappointed after spending the money.

**Developer response:** The app contains footpath data defined by OpenStreetMap contributors. If you want to add other walks you can import waypoints/routes using gps files (freely available on the internet). Our developers are planning to implement track recording in the near future.

### 3/5 — Which way to walk ?

*2024-05-29, version 2.1.1*

Location dot needs to be an arrow so you know which way to walk from cane to get right path . With that this would definitely be a 5 star plus app

### 3/5 — Search function not working properly

*2023-11-16*

I love this app and have been using it for years but in the last month it has stopped working properly. I’m running IOS17.0.3
If I type in the fell I am looking for the search function finds it but there is no visible search button (I’m effectively typing onto the screen image of the Lake District)
This means I cannot access the map to check routes or clear the fell I was searching for
Please can you assist

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review comments and feedback. After testing your scenario with iOS 7.1.1 the fault described is not reproduced. Please update to the latest version of iOS and retry.

### 3/5 — Good maps but unable to create a route

*2018-07-12, version 2.0.2*

The app works well to track where you are and see the surrounding area but I've been unable to create a route. The instructions didn't work for me and I couldn't find any help online (eg a YouTube video to see how to do this). I got no response when I tweeted at them for assistance and couldn't find an email. I specifically wanted to create walks that I could share with others but I couldn't get the system to work on my iPhone to set the waypoints.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Wainwright completion

*2025-09-02*

I’ve used this app for over 8 years and without it I would not have completed the Wainwrights, something I achieved last month.
It is incredibly accurate- 5 metres off the path and it shows- and crucially can be used off-line (especially useful given the location).
Hopefully I will continue to use for a number of years yet.
Thank you.

**Developer response:** Congratulations on your achievement and thanks for such positive feedback. It’s always a pleasure to read reviews like this. The developers are delighted it’s been proven to be useful to so many users. It was always our intention to create an app that would help people. We have intentions to further develop the app and release a new version in the future.

### 5/5 — The best app

*2024-01-27, version 2.1.1*

Don’t bother reading the reviews just get it, use it and remember to take your portable battery charger

### 5/5 — Very useful, beautiful maps

*2023-10-04*

This app was very useful on a recent trip to the Lake District, both for walking around town and for a larger hike. The maps are easy to read and helped me discover wonderful places like the Sheriff’s Walk in Bowness.

### 5/5 — Errr… what they said. Brilliant.

*2023-03-30*

Difficult to say anything more than others already have, but this is head and shoulders above any other app you’re going to find for the Lakes. While I always carry a paper map just in case I rarely, if ever, need to refer to it. A compass to check direction and OS locate to check altitude if the weather is really bad is a good idea, but otherwise you can’t really do better than this. Has got me up and down 207 of the 214s via multiple routes without any problem. There are lots of paths in the Lakes that aren’t old public rights of way so aren’t included, as with OS, but being able to important others’ gpx files sorts that one out. Some of finer detail of OS maps is missing - walls, etc - but it also removes a lot of the clutter, and the colouring makes it a lot easier to read than the horrible red and orange mess of OS. In a word, brilliant. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2023-03-09*

Love the app. Used it for multiple trips to the lakes without failure. I have used it far more times than a paid for OS map. I would go as far as saying it’s the best app I’ve got for value for money.

I have one very small issue that does bother me slightly… every few times coming off the app and going back onto it, I get a pop up asking me to rate the app. I wish there was a way to stop this. It’s a little frustrating when out walking in poor weather and wanting to go between apps for things.

Thank you.

**Developer response:** Updated response 24/03/20...

iOS 13.4 seems to have fixed this issue. Please download iOS 13.4 (released today) and retest.

Thanks for the positive feedback. Here's some guidance re: your request for information about downloading gpx files....

### 5/5 — Best walking app

*2022-10-08, version 2.1.1*

Excellent app. Easy to use. Highly recommended

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2022-10-08, version 2.1.1*

Spot on! Great help and back up to OS maps

### 5/5 — Excellent simple app

*2022-08-17, version 2.1.1*

What a great app. No need to create accounts and all that rigmarole, just great for Lake District walking.

### 5/5 — Really handy app for days out in the Lakes.

*2022-06-24*

This is such a useful app for days out in the Lake District. I use it all the time. As you zoom in and out - you get just enough detail at each level to make it very 'usable'.
It's great for finding new routes, paths and identifying the names of fells.
I'd obviously always take a paper OS map for any serious walking up the fells, but this app is very convenient for a quick check on the move, or when you haven't time to unfold a full map.

### 5/5 — One of the best walking apps

*2022-04-26*

This is one of the best apps ever made for walkers. In the Lake District quite often there is no mobile signal, and this app will always show you where you are on a very detailed map. Even in fog and mist you can see where you are and if you’re heading the right way. I have even used it to find car parking spaces when there is no mobile signal! I like the crosshair function where I can see how far it is to walk to a certain point.

I always plan my routes first using Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 maps and the Wainwright pictorial guide books. I also have the Peak District app and it would be great if there were more places covered. I have been using this app for several years now, and I can still recall the first time I used it when my walking buddy told me he had also got a new walking app, and it was this very one!
