## What is Lamp & Line?

Lamp & Line is a calm place to read the Bible. The complete Bible, free and offline: no account, no feed, no advertisement, no interruption. The Bible text is in English: the Berean Standard Bible.

It opens to Scripture. The complete Berean Standard Bible is stored on your device, so it works on a plane, in a basement, and with every network switched off.

Typeset, not dumped on screen. Poetry keeps the lines the translators set, with wrapped lines hanging beneath them the way a printed psalter does. Prose flows as paragraphs rather than a stack of numbered cards. Verse numbers are there when you want them and quiet when you do not. Footnotes are set apart, so a note can never be mistaken for Scripture. Light by day, warm at night, and every text size iOS offers without a word clipped.

Find the verse. Type "John 3:16", "Jn316", "Psalm 23", "Romans 8:28-32", a phrase in quotation marks, or just the words you half remember. References resolve instantly. Everything else is searched across the whole Bible in a fraction of a second, offline.

A small daily rhythm. One Psalm, one short reading, one prayer. One card a day, not a feed. It is the same on your iPhone, your iPad, your Home Screen, your Lock Screen, and your Apple Watch. One reminder a day, at a time you choose — or none at all.

A plan that waits for you. Take a book, a testament, or the whole Bible a few chapters at a time. A plan divides what you have chosen into readings you take one at a time, and there are no dates in it: miss a week and it is exactly where you left it, with nothing to catch up on and nothing broken.

On your wrist, properly. Today comes to your Apple Watch for nothing — the day's Psalm, its reading, and its prayer, with your phone switched off. Full opens the whole Bible there too: all 66 books on your wrist, offline, not a subset and not a companion screen.

Yours, and private. Bookmarks, highlights, and notes stay on your device. Nothing you read, search for, or write is sent anywhere. There is no analytics of any kind. You can export everything you have written, read it back in on another device, and delete it, at any time.

Where you left it, however you come back. Ask Siri for today's Lamp, put it in Control Centre or on the Action button, or find any book — or a verse you kept — straight from the Home Screen search field. All of it free, and all of it on your device.

One passage leads to another. Tap a verse and follow its threads — the passages that speak to it, with their words in front of you, one tap away and one gesture back.

A verse, set to send. Choose any verse — or just the words you mean — and set it as a card: four looks, three shapes, and the reference and translation always on it. Nothing is screenshotted; the card is typeset from the text itself.

On iPad, the same book. One purchase covers both; there is no separate app and no second price. The page keeps a comfortable measure rather than stretching a line of Scripture across thirteen inches, Today, Read, Search, and Library move into a sidebar, and it turns whichever way you are holding it.

Free means free. On iPhone and iPad: the complete Bible, search, your bookmarks and notes, Today, a reading plan, a Home Screen widget, and every accessibility feature cost nothing, for good. Marking a whole verse is free too, and so is copying or sharing any verse as text. On Apple Watch, Today is free, with a complication to open it. Lamp & Line Full is one purchase — no subscription — that adds every reading style, every widget size, every complication, the whole Bible on Apple Watch, threads between passages, highlighting the exact phrase rather than the whole verse, the share-card studio, and as many reading plans as you like.

### 1.5 — 2026-09-18

A tile in Control Centre. Today's Lamp and Continue Reading are now Controls, so either can go in Control Centre, on the Lock Screen, or on the Action button. Both are free.

Any book, from the Home Screen. Search your iPhone for Habakkuk — or Hebrews, or Job — and open it without opening the app first. All sixty-six.

Find the verse you marked. Search now looks through your own bookmarks, highlights and notes as well as Scripture, so "the verse I highlighted about waiting" can find it even when those are not the words in it. It happens on your device, and nothing about it is sent anywhere.

The Daily Lamp knows when your morning is. In the Smart Stack it now asks to be shown around the time you set your reminder for, rather than at a fixed hour.

Also fixed: Continue Reading opened the right passage when asked of Siri, but not always from a widget, a Shortcut, or the Watch.

### 1.4 — 2026-09-17

阅读更流畅。诗篇 119 篇这样的长章节滚动起来顺滑得多，iPhone 重启后，“今日”也不再停在加载指示后等待。

其他修复：仅翻过章节而未阅读、或在勾选计划的过程中，可能会弹出评分请求；在离开 App 前一刻选择的字号可能不会被保存。

### 1.3 — 2026-09-13

读经计划更容易跟上了。从计划或“今日”打开的一段读经，现在会留在这个计划里：栏中写明你读到哪里——“第 4 段 · 第 1/3 章”——“下一个”前往这段读经的下一章，而不只是圣经的下一章；最后一章的末尾会出现“将这段读经标为已读”。

直达经节。书卷选择器会停在你正在读的那一章，书卷各章下方的“前往某节”让你连经节也一并选好。

留有改主意的余地。“今日”里的“标记为已读”和“在此稍作停留”可以在几秒内撤销，书房里的每次删除也一样。

书房会显示书签、标注、笔记和计划各有多少，“编辑”可以一次删除多项。每条笔记都列在它所写的那节经文下方。

诗篇的题记（如“A Psalm of David”）现在可以长按拷贝和分享；诗篇第一节的分享卡片也可以把题记放在经文上方。

书签、笔记、拷贝和分享现在排成一行，紧挨在经文下方，不必再往下找。

其他修复：以日文、韩文或中文打开读经计划时应用会崩溃；同一标注颜色点两次，可能连带删掉一节中标出的短语；在搜索中粘贴长文本会让画面卡住好几秒；重新打开应用时，章标题可能被栏遮住。

### 1.2 — 2026-09-12

全新的图标。仍是同一条连续的线——上缘扬起如火焰的一本摊开的书——如今画在应用排印圣经所用的米色之上，图标与页面因此一致。在搜索结果给它的尺寸下依然清晰，在主屏幕上也更明亮。在 iOS 的深色外观下，这盏灯仍在暗中发光。

现在请求评分的时机也稍早一些。仍然只在你刚读完一章或一段读经之后询问，并且每个版本只问一次。

### 1.1 — 2026-09-08

The app introduces itself on first launch: one screen, shown once, naming the four places to read and saying that the whole Bible is already on your device. Settings can open it again.
Chapters of poetry open far faster. Psalm 119 took about a second to lay out and now takes a sixth of that; Psalm 78 and Ezra 2 are three to four times quicker.
A bookmark, a search result, a plan's reading or Today's reading now opens on the tab you are already on, so Back returns you where you were rather than to a screen you had never visited.
Movement is quieter throughout — a restrained page turn, lists and cards that settle rather than pop — and Reduce Motion is honoured by construction.
Settings has an About section: the version, the support page, the privacy policy and the acknowledgements.
Accessibility: VoiceOver can now reach a footnote and bring the bars back in Quiet, Bold Text and Increase Contrast reach the Scripture itself, and the largest text sizes no longer push a control off the screen.
Two new rows in Settings: Rate Lamp & Line, and Share Lamp & Line with someone.
Today offers the daily reminder once, after a couple of visits. Say no and it does not ask again.
A verse shared as text now says where it came from, with a link to the App Store. Copy stays exactly as it was, and the switch that governs the mark on the card governs this line too.
Settings now shows the Siri phrases and Shortcuts the app already answers to.
Also fixed: Restore Purchases said nothing on a new Apple Account; a refund taken while the app was closed could leave Full unlocked; a Watch set up on its own never learned about Full; search forgot what you had typed; a note draft could be lost to a swipe; and about twenty-five phrases that were always English are now translated.
On the App Store the app is now listed as Lamp & Line – Bible Reader. Nothing else about it has changed.
