### 3/5 — Fair: will not work offline

*2017-10-28, version 3.2*

downloaded pictures for 2 hours for offline use would not work! Large database. Enough information for buying. Good filters for searching. Emails are ignored. Don't Buy!

### 2/5 — When you upgrade phone, all info is lost

*2016-08-19, version 3.1.7*

Unbelievably, you can't log in to your account from a new device and retrieve your notes, projects, photos. I used this religiously for a year, upgraded my phone, and everything's irretrievable. There's a big market for a reliable gardening app designed similarly to this app, but this app isn't it.

### 2/5 — Wasted $15

*2016-07-17, version 3.1.7*

Bought this because it said you could upload your pix and take notes on them. That feature is only in the pro version which costs another $5. I bought it and still don't see how I can upload them. The catalog doesn't include my plants so I have to enter all the info. Been working with this for 30 mins and I think I will give up.

### 4/5 — Needs a little work but still like it a lot

*2016-04-24, version 3.1.7*

I'm a professional gardener and enjoy this app a lot. There are some glitches that need to be fixed, like repeat plants and it would be nice to have more detailed info on a lot of them. But I upgraded and love that I can add my own plants, have projects to save my ideas to. I wish the designers would talk to gardeners and landscapers to perfect this but all in all its a good app.

### 3/5 — Continually Improving!!!

*2012-12-13, version 2.99*

5 stars. I'm a licensed Landscape Horticulturist. This was one of the first horticulture apps available; I've used it from the beginning and it is by far my favorite... SO, to all the complainers: If you can't find the info you're looking for, or if a photo doesn't match a cultivar... Stop whining! Contact the developer with any discrepancies you come across. That's what I did... The number of updates are proof someone's listening. The fact the developer is open to feedback - and acts on it! - makes this app even better.

### 3/5 — Not yet ready for prime time.

*2012-07-13, version 2.93*

It is true this app had come a long way. Still, it's not where it could be. Improved from the earlier version, yes ---- it has improved.

I don't like having to pay more for the privilege of being able to add my own information. Give me a clear statement the information I put in this app or my photos will not be used in any manner. I'd like that to upgrade to pro.

Lastly, crashes - this is silly at best. I had to delete the app after uploading as it crashed every time I tried to open it.

After I reloaded the new version and I went to the contact page, oops the app crashed again.

Until I can use this app to enhance my gardening experience the app is only worth 3 stars. This app should be top of the line. Not a 3 or 4 year project.

I do like this app overall, it just not ready.

### 2/5 — Limited usefulness

*2012-07-12, version 2.93*

Update: 12 July 2013
Still fair even with the Pro upgrade. Little or no intuitive spelling look-up (I can't always spell the name I'm looking for). Several or even many duplicate entries, e.g Crossvine and Cross Vine. Not sure if there is such a thing as "plantpedia", but if so, this would be a great step in providing a wealth of information.
And last, but not least, some of this comment should have been in a "contact us" email, but, alas, the link is broken.

Fair at best. Has a long way to go information wise before it becomes a truly informational and helpful plant/planting app.

### 4/5 — Handy app

*2012-07-07, version 2.92*

I find this app helpful when I'm plant shopping. It's easy to use and gives basic care requirements. Good search features and pictures. Could improve by expanding the amount of plants and adding greater detail of care required at different times of year.

### 4/5 — Good but doesn't tell soil ph preference

*2012-02-03, version 2.72*

Love the app, great for quick reference. Only problem is that you cannot search by soil ph level. Some plants need either acid or basic, research that before planting.

### 4/5 — Good basic reference

*2011-11-20, version 2.68*

I have just started to use the app. I have found it useful when presenting a design to help clients understand the use of given plant material. Just enough info to keep them from being confused.
I can see it being used in other forms in the future.

### 4/5 — Worth the dime spent

*2011-10-13, version 2.68*

I really do like this app. I use at work to identify trees, shrubs, and random flowers i see. I do like how user friendly it is. My complaints are that it does crash every now a then an that the data base for trees was larger, just because I am a nerd about trees.

### 4/5 — Not bad

*2011-09-19, version 2.67*

Could use a little improvement on details all plants best time to prune plant and transplant soil type and the ph level the plant generally prefers. Maybe a little of it's origins as well, it's easier to understand the overall plant health if you know a little bit about it's origins. Overall a great and handy app for quick reference and Id.

### 4/5 — Good reference app

*2011-06-27, version 2.66*

I work in a garden center & have used this app as a reference many times. I love that I can switch between common & scientific names to keep up with customers. Would like to see more varieties/cultivars & I feel the susceptibility & resistance to pests is important information that is missing.

### 4/5 — App is fantastic

*2011-06-25, version 2.66*

It's a fantastic app the only problom is the repeat of some of the plants and flowers under other known names kinda gets mixed up when trying to learn but my yard hasn't looked better

### 4/5 — Helpful to get ideas for the garden

*2011-06-16, version 2.66*

Pictures are good for ideas. Helps decide placement. Some things are not quite accurate, but does help for some things.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2018-06-21, version 3.2*

Wanted an app where I could put in zone, plant type like tree or shrub, light available in my spot , height desired, foliage color and get a list of plants that fit. This app doesn’t do that. Disappointed.

### 1/5 — Help. This app stole my money.

*2017-08-15, version 3.2*

It says there is a new version available. ¿?¿?

### 1/5 — Like it so far...

*2017-06-26, version 3.2*

Update- No response to my problem via email, so, or addressed here so gave one star and deleted.

Can't figure out how to edit an entry on "My Plants" feature. I like it except for this and lack of response from developer. Will up rating when/if my issue is resolved.

### 1/5 — Extremely limited selection for the bloated price

*2016-04-02, version 3.1.7*

I bought this hoping it would provide me information on plants. Unfortunately it was extremely limited on its plants. Not once did I see one plant that I was looking for in this app's catalog. Not once! I ended up going on line and to find my plants! Hardly worth the $10 for such a useless catalog. Maybe you have to upgrade to get a fuller catalog but if so, that's unacceptable for such an expensive app! Heck, For $20-30 what you pay here you could just go down to the bookstore and buy a regional gardening book and it would be much more informative and with ALL the plants you'd want to look up so why waste money and Disc space for this? I'll definitely be asking for a refund once I get home to my Mac.

### 1/5 — False Advertising.

*2013-11-14, version 3.0.5*

It's unbelievable that the app developer states that there are 26,000 plants listed on the iPhone app spread over 17 categories. I personally tallied the total number of plants listed on this app in less than 10 minutes. Bulbs-22 listings, cacti-1 listing, evergreens-49 listings, ferns-28, flowering trees-9, grass-11, ground over -20, herbs-792, houseplants-2, palms-0, perineal -148, roses-6, shrubs-129, trees-17, vegetable,fruit,berries-10, water plants-1.
Also note that while this iPhone app will work on your iPad you will have to pay another $10 to have it fully functional.
The only thing green this person is interested in is your money!

### 1/5 — Crashes every time

*2012-07-14, version 2.93*

When I first bought this program I wasn't too impresses by it. Mostly because I expected to be able to add my own info. But it seemed like they were always updating it so I had hopes it would get better.

Today I tried to use the app the for the first time in a long time and it crashes every time when I try to open it. There have been several upgrades downloaded since I last used it so I don't know at which point it became a problem, but it seems other reviews mention the same problem.

I guess I'll go back to using my huge but stable A-Z book. Not so portable, but it never crashes.

### 1/5 — Very Disappointing

*2012-04-29, version 2.90.0*

I expected to use this app to choose plants for my garden, then keep a running account of their progress including pictures and notes. This maybe possible with the additional Pro feature for an additional cost on top of the already expensive price for the regular version. There are many random photos which have no order or connection to each other. The photography is poor. For example there's a picture of a tree with a big truck parked in front of it. Another has a photo shot thru a windshield with the reflection of the steering wheel in the photo. AND I can't delete this junk and replace it with my own photos. Maybe this is OK for a beginning gardener but certainly not for a landscaper.

### 1/5 — This companion is the worst kind of friend to have.

*2010-06-02, version 0*

If this app is a companion, it is a bad one that is never there for you when you need it, but keeps coming back with an update just when you are getting over it. The information if full of errors. The contents and photos are taken straight from wikipedia and often mislabeled, duplicated and incorrect. The new "improved" search just adds a size option but doesn't differentiate between size and width. The app is even worse when you need to identify a plant. Rather than listening to the reviews of previous versions and correcting the problems in the information, these guys just keep releasing new updates with the same problems to push the old reviews to the back. Be sure and read the older reviews because this is the same app with the same problems, just more of them. If you are a landscaper, this companion is bound to let you down and make you look like a fool in front of your friends. There are good apps out there with original and accurate content backed by aceademic sources that are far better companions than this one. If you want bad information you can get everything in here for free on wikipedia.

### 1/5 — Biggest Disappointment

*2010-04-22, version 0*

I am a professional Gardner, and this app does not even come close to justify the information and associated pictures of the given plants. Somebody would think that paying $9.99 would get them actually the right plant pictures and information regard to it. I just feel sorry for paying $9.99 for this app. Biggest fraud at app store. Its really shame that apple would let this kind of software, scam the buyers.

### 1/5 — No way it justifies the price!!!

*2010-04-19, version 0*

But the app does not justify the $9.99. Not even close. Too many plants have no info and a lot of pictures are very low quality, blurry pictures and are not very useful Are they free pics off the internet? Such a high price must come with high quality product. Go to stock photo sites and pay for good quality images. Need more categories for color, bloom, soil/water requirements, etc. Agree with previews reviewer who said there are apps that do a better job with these. Much info unverified and incomplete obviously from unreliable online sources. Disappointing, I think apple should take it down and offer a 0.99 "lite" version for starters until the app is updated to justify the price.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great for Landscaping ideas

*2019-06-10, version 3.2*

This app gives you a chance to see what planted perennials will look like before the expense of purchasing real ones. It’s fun! I recommend trying it.

### 5/5 — The Best Gardening App I've Used

*2013-01-10, version 2.99*

I've tried pretty much every gardening app out there and this one is, by far, my favorite. It's beautifully designed and has the largest selection of plants and flowers anywhere. I can see pictures of everything with links to the original images so I can copy/paste them if I want.

I've found myself using the sort feature a lot too. It allowed me to filter by a variety of characteristics so I can find just the right type of plant.

These guys have done a great job and this app is well worth the money.

### 5/5 — Killer app... Awesome updates

*2012-12-20, version 2.99*

Best app to help you plan out your landscaping. Killer information source. It's like getting a $70 horticulture encyclopedia for pennies.

Worth every cent, and he just keeps making it better!

### 5/5 — Great all around reference

*2012-06-02, version 2.91*

It has a great range of flowers, trees, shrubs, etc... I do say it could use a update there is still much more could be added. Not knocking it definitely a worthy download..

### 5/5 — A wonderful app for my yard & future garden!!

*2012-03-28, version 2.81*

I must admit I do not have two green thumbs; however, this this is the best app I have found for our yard and garden. I really easily able to use this app while visiting the stores and mapping out where each plant, flower, and tree are need to be planted. My favorite part is how each item gives the details of water needs, sun, and the soil zones; which far less questions for my wife, and parents...

### 5/5 — Love the updates.

*2012-03-05, version 2.80*

Helpful and enjoyable to use. Wouldn't know where to begin my planning if I didn't have this handy tool.

### 5/5 — Great App!

*2012-02-02, version 2.72*

I really love this app ... So much easier to take to a nursery than carrying the Sunset Garden Book. Very user friendly and so much information. Well worth the cost!

### 5/5 — Great ap

*2011-07-13, version 2.66*

Great basic reference for use in the landscaping industry when somebody needs to know quickly what something is. There are some that repeats though using different common names of the plant, tree, etc.

### 5/5 — well organized

*2011-03-22, version 2.60*

I am not sure why this app is getting bad reviews but it is very comprehensive has a search function so you can finds your flowers/ plants. You do need an internet connection to download photos but otherwise a very comprehensive app. It is much better than thumbing thru a big book trying to find a particular
plant! Add to that it is 50% off!

### 5/5 — Nice Features for any gardener

*2011-03-18, version 2.60*

Out of all the gardening apps I've bought, this is the most comprehensive. Each update keeps adding more and more plants. I like the latest update that lets me add my own pictures to plants.
