When doing the mini games, it degrades you for taking your time on answering. Something not good for education purposes is rushing a student on their work.

So I just got this game it was all good but I wanted the fluency pass and it say a 1 week trial but when I click on purchase it all say “£79.99” no free trial you better fix this now!!

All in all a nice way to learn a new language. Some times the menus are a bit overwhelming. And it is very sad that you can learn German but can’t choose it as base language. 5 years ago this would be acceptable but with the actual possibilities it is just annoying.

This is a great game. I am learning so much (almost without trying). There are so many cool features and interesting things to explore. You can never get bored playing this and there is a healthy community. 
My favorite feature is the look back on what I just missed option and see explanations right there. A lot of thought went into this. I also like that there is always something to do, and seemingly just the right amount to keep one’s engagement. Just all-around appealing and the activities differ to keep it interesting

Sure, the graphics might not be the best, but for being a free game- the is one of the best passion projects ive seen. It doesn't feel too easy- but when its too hard- it doesnt make you stop learning when youre wrong (cough cough duolingo). Its really easy to get invested into

I’m looking to pick up apps to learn Russian, and spotting this app I became
curious. Sure, the graphics are weird, and I think using the smiley emoji to
show the beasts emotion is weird,  but the game is interesting enough to
continue.

So i like the game aspect of this, i think they introduce words well and all that, that isn’t where i have my issue. My issue comes from combat being based both on correct answers and time it takes to answer. This isn’t great for people who take longer to read in any language, this is especially difficult if the language isn’t using the latin alphabet. I’m learning Russian, so i’m having to remember a whole new alphabet, read and process it quickly, i’m a native english speaker and i can’t even do that with english! At least when i came into this i already knew the alphabet because i’m using this to supplement my duolingo lessons as well. I also find it very unfair that people at a much higher level, using the fluency pass can be matched with you in PvP. 90% of the questions i am left guessing on.

I’m not going to give up on playing, but thats my two cents on it. I am otherwise happy with the game, and do think it will help solidify and further my learning.

**Developer response:** So, there is a mode called untimed, trek and the speech path. All of these are untimed and you can learn while taking your time. The issue with being matched against more powerful players is something I am trying to fix. It should be fixed within a month or two.

This is a great game to supplement your Russian or French . I can practice what I've learned and get competitive to learn more. I like the repetition, but it is also challenging with new vocabulary thrown in to keep you on your toes. I also appreciate the grammar explanations, especially in Russian≥

I don’t have any game apps on my phone… until now. And I don’t feel guilty because I’m learning every second I'm playing! I’m enjoying learning a lot and I appreciate how they break down verbs for you, add comments explaining context and giving suggestions. Thanks for creating this.

Found this through Reddit and as someone struggling to learn French the traditional way while living in France this has been amazing! Visuals work. I am remembering verbs and even getting through my dreaded numbers! Une excellente façon d’apprendre le français!

I LOVED this app. I was searching for a way to learn Thai a few years ago, and Langlandia was recommended. Amazing, 5/5 stars. I recently got back into the app for Spanish, and I’m heartbroken. Chatbots? Generative AI backgrounds? I’m scared to imagine how much AI went into the actual programming of the language learning portion of the app. 

All I wanted was a way to learn a language without AI content being shoved down my throat. AI companies are literally hiding trillions of dollar of debt, I’m tired of it. 

Genuinely heartbroken to see the dev embrace AI. I am mourning this app.

I’m revising my review as the app has been changed recently which effects my overall impression together with getting further into the app itself.

I was doing the Spanish and Japanese courses and at first I thought it was good but an albeit buggy and slightly empty game with ads which were semi frequent but not overly intrusive but recent updates have significantly changed my impressions. 

Now ads are intrusive and annoying, the bugs seem to have gotten worse in the most recent update with significantly more random crashes, ads not loading, phone getting hot, excessive battery drain, the levels in the play and learn section being garbled or missing.

Recently the developer has restricted the ability to switch between languages unless paying the premium option effectively locking you out of your other course which you may have significant progress in, I personally find this decision a bit baffling as learning more languages is only going to increase the odds of you paying for premium not decrease but as it is currently I’m trapped in a very incomplete Japanese beta course which is very very unfinished and lacking core functionality and polish. In turn I’m unlikely to continue using this app or support the dev either via watching what are now intrusive ads or paying for premium. Shame really as I thought this app had potential.

On my iPhone 7 normal size (not plus), I cannot advance grades because the screen does not scroll and the “third teacher” is off the screen.  Don’t bother wasting your time playing this game to learn only about fifteen or twenty words total.

I’ve been playing this game daily for the past 3 years. I love it because I feel part of a community. My fellow players feel like friends. We have chat groups, we support each other and we learn while growing stronger in the game. The dev is very helpful and responsive. Hope this will last for many years.

I downloaded this as a way to stop doomscrolling / hopefully learn something while playing on my phone. I have other language learning apps I’m using to actually learn, but this is a fun way to keep my brain thinking in Spanish, and help memorize more vocab. Am I going to get fluent just from this app? No. But it’s great combined with my other apps or lessons! 

As far as the app itself, it’s super well made. Tons of different features and games. There’s PvP battles, stories, a town, a map to explore, and so much more I haven’t even unlocked yet. The different beasts you can unlock and level up make it fun to keep playing. The app loads quickly, and you can jump right into playing. Download this app, I wish I had found out about it sooner!

If you play this app every day, you will improve at your chosen language(s). Catch and train all 55 beasts. The artwork is stunning. Community ideas are regularly incorporated into the game by the developer. This is a niche online gaming/learning community.

I’m playing Langlandia to learn German along with other apps and programs like Duolingo,  Busuu, Pimsleur, and others. This is the most fun and engaging. I’m a retired teacher. If i were still teaching, I would definitely be using it with my students!

This just works. You want to level up, get achievements, get higher scores.. And the way to do it is with learning so you do it. 

It's also the only language app I've seen that tracks how fast you answer a multiple choice to gauge whether you have mastered a word.
