I had a long drive ahead of me so I thought I’d spend it learning only to have it shut down after 20 minutes because I am out of daily tokens? What nonsense is this? ### 3/5 — Useful but annoying *2026-07-18, version 7.3.0* So far, I’ve mostly been using the lessons, and they’re frustrating in several ways. It’s not always clear what kind of answer is expected - a simple phrase, a longer phrase, an explanation? Questions sometimes refer to pictures that are missing. Hints are useful if you’re stuck for an answer, but then the AI will tell you your answer is bad. And more irritations, which I am learning to be more chill about. Despite that, it’s very useful for practicing speaking, and the lessons are useful. I just wish the developers would actually use their own app and find/fix the problems. ### 2/5 — Good Idea, Some Rough Edges *2026-07-08* Overall, the app offers a good experience, but there is still a lot of room for improvement. The lessons still contain quite a few errors, and the speech recognition in particular needs further improvement. The chat function that was removed after the last major update was one of the app’s strongest features. The conversations felt natural, engaging, and close to a real interaction, which made language practice effective and motivating. With the new conversation feature “Langa” replacing it, chatting feels noticeably less natural. The voice sounds robotic, conversations progress too slowly, the animation feels distracting, and the option to receive suggested answers is no longer available. These changes make conversations feel less enjoyable and less like a real exchange. The new dark-themed design is also not ideal. Instead of enforcing a single visual style, it would be better to give users the option to switch between light and dark mode. Overall, the app has a lot of potential, but restoring more natural conversations and refining the current features would greatly improve the overall learning experience. ### 2/5 — I can back and it got worse *2026-06-27, version 7.1.0* I don’t know what happened. It’s very different not ### 3/5 — Downgrade nach letztem Update *2026-06-25* Ich wollte erst noch eine Weile mit der App üben, bevor ich eine Bewertung abgebe, nachdem letzten Update schreibe warte ich nicht länger. Ich habe aufgrund von Urlaub 2 Wochen mit der App pausiert und anschließend enttäuscht festgestellt, dass es ein massives Update ohne Vorwarnung gab. Der darkmode sagt mir persönlich gar nicht zu und kann nicht verändert werden. Außerdem ist für mein Verständnis zusätzlich dazu, zu viel an der UI verändert worden. Was mich allerdings am meisten stört ist, dass die Chat Funktion entfernt wurde! Warum?! Das was für mich eine der besten Funktionen, die ich an der App wirklich sehr gemocht und intensiv genutzt habe. Bitte wieder aufnehmen! Ja, natürlich nutze ich so oft es geht das sprechen, aber die zusätzlich Chat Möglichkeit war Mega und fehlt für mich jetzt. For one thing, they don’t understand half of what you are saying regardless of how well you enunciate. The other is that they grade you after each conversation which can vary wildly from a super condescending PRE-A1 to a more appropriate B1. But you never know. And then when you unsubscribe, you get a nasty little Email about there must be insufficient funds in your bank account and they’re going to keep trying…” Non! J’ai FINI! ### 2/5 — Frustrating *2026-03-23, version 5.12.0* While this app has some potential, I am finding it so frustrating that I am not sure I want to continue after the free trial. When I answer a question it’s way too harsh and judgy. For example it asked me a very specific question, it told me to say my name and say where you are from in Spanish, my response was Me llamo Kat, soy de Los Estados Unidos, it tells me not quite because I didn’t tell my age, it didn’t ask me to say how old I am, it also said I need to capitalize The United States, I wasn’t writing it, I was speaking so why would I get dinged for that? And then one question it completely said I was wrong when I definitely was not wrong ### 4/5 — Very Good App with a Little Work Still Needed *2026-03-15, version 5.12.0* I have just started using this app, to keep up Italian conversational skills. It is very good indeed. The comments and advice it gives after each conversation are helpful. However, the corrections are occasionally incorrect. There are also a few technical glitches: the app does not always catch what you say correctly, and a bug in one of the lesson exercises makes it impossible to complete a perfect lesson. It is still a very good app though, and will be excellent when the glitches are fixed. ### 4/5 — Copy *2026-01-20, version 5.8.0* I think it would be better if you added a copying feature in the app. ### 4/5 — Finally an AI that talks like a human, not textbook. *2026-01-18* I started learning Italian and Greek with this app. I downloaded it because I wanted real conversations/conversations about random things or specific themes, not a robotic and dry conversation like other famous AI’s. & that’s exactly what I got. This app adapts to the conversation and makes it easy to express ideas, even when your level isn’t perfect ( instead of just asking you "what’s your favorite meal" on repeat.) It feels natural, engaging, and surprisingly effective. If you want to practice speaking a language instead of just studying it, this is hands down one of the best ways to do it. ### 4/5 — Pas certaine *2026-01-16, version 5.7.0* L’application ne fonctionne pas très bien en français et peut être répétitive par moment ### 3/5 — Needs some work *2026-01-14, version 5.6.0* The price is decent but the app is mediocre. Not all options are available for all languages. It’s really slow over cellular, even 5G but works fairly well on WiFi. Phone chat needs to be available for all languages and the app needs to be CarPlay compatible. ### 3/5 — Great but has issues *2025-12-25, version 5.4.0* I really like this app for learning Greek but there are many problems. Often. The grammar is wrong and the grading is inaccurate. I have lost some confidence in it lately. I wish they'd correct these issues. ### 1/5 — Ummm what???? *2025-12-11, version 5.3.0* I started the first lesson but right off the bat it called me the wrong name so I was like ok I’ll just put my full name as my username instead (I’d originally used a nickname bc it’s shorter) but then when I tried to go back to the lesson it said that it was locked and I needed to buy the subscription in order to be able to do it. The whole reason I didn’t start the subscription in the first place is because I wanted to test it out and see if it’d actually be helpful. I don’t like spending money on useless things so I just wanted to try the free version first and now apparently I can’t even use the app unless I get the subscription. I’ve seen it go from getting better to being completely unusable. The new “overhaul” makes this app unbearable. I miss the AI tutors and phone conversations for variety’s sake. The new version has one tutor who doesn’t understand anything and often switches to a stilted and painfully incomprehensible American accent in Portuguese and Spanish sessions. It also erased all of my vocabulary I’d been saving and treats me like a beginner when I’m C1 in Spanish and B2 in Portuguese. What a sad waste of what was once a good app. TL;DR You’re better off with other apps. ### 1/5 — Ripoff - Caveat Emptor *2026-07-13, version 7.2.0* I’ve had this application for less than two months and it has several issues. The app is a bit glitchy in terms of creating content in English and Spanish. I decided to start using the Langa feature to chat with the AI chat bot to discuss topics that I found interesting and helpful in learning Spanish for business purposes. I noticed as of today this app is now throttling the Chatbot usage claiming that there are “tokens” for use. Interesting. I paid $80 for a one-year subscription for this company to change the rules and make it up as they go? There are a lot of better options out there. I have tried many of them. Don’t waste your time on this one - a glitchy ripoff. ### 1/5 — Terrible *2026-07-05, version 7.1.0* App is terrible, full of bugs and simple doesn’t work. ### 1/5 — Terrible Experience All Around *2026-07-02, version 7.1.0* First, I could barely get it to talk to me in the language I was learning, it kept talking English. Second, when I finally asked it to speak Spanish it used an American accent. Third. The subscription cancellation is convoluted and took several minutes to figure out including being redirected to a third party. ### 1/5 — Dark mode very annoying! *2026-06-22* So far I really liked the app and used it everyday. Sadly after the last update there is a new „fancy“ dark mode which cannot be switched off. Introducing such a „feature“ without any choice to keep the bright mode (which I personally like much more) is an absolute no-go! Plus, why have you removed the chat feature? This is why I have choosen this app - I want to practice conversations with various topics. That was perfectly implemented via the chat feature. It gave me instant feedback and also created a new lession based on the last chat. Now with the new langa feature the conversations are unnatural, have much less variety in topics and also Langa continously repeats the same questions - when talking you have the feeling Langa is not listening to what you say. Also no tips, to translation feature, etc. Talking to Langa is much less fun than the old chat feature. You made the app much worse with the latest update! **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. We’re constantly working to improve Langotalk. Lessons with Langa are now more customizable and powered by a more advanced model, allowing for natural conversations across all proficiency levels. We’ve also recently added a word translation feature, with more improvements coming soon. ### 1/5 — Nothing special *2026-06-17* I spent some money on a year long subscription to this service and I have been nothing but disappointed. Standard AI models such as GPT or Claude will give you better, more accurate, and more fair feedback than this app. I tried testing the service with my native language out of shear curiosity and the depth of the responses always fall incredibly short and they always place your fluency in the same level. In any case my main complaints are that the ranking system for how well you speak seems to be generally unreliable as I have gotten B1/B2 rankings in languages I barely know but get an A1-A2 ranking in languages I evidently have more proficiency with. Furthermore the chat bots are incredibly limited in the conversations that they can have. The lessons they generate in response to your mistakes are usually only adjacent and never really focused enough to be all that useful. I think this app had a lot of potential. I have been using it for a while and it seems there has been no change at all to the AI model that they use which leaves the app feeling soulless and hollow and not useful enough to justify it. I am not one to be much of a hater but I have been waiting months and months for this app to improve but nothing has changed and I don’t want anyone else wasting their money when they could just use Chat GPT or Claude for free. ### 1/5 — New release is terrible *2026-06-16, version 7.0.0* I’m leaving LangoTalk after 2 years. Yet again, an unannounced release change that blindsided me and loses much of the AI conversation functionality. Your first session will have you wondering what each of 40 words mean and it is painfully slow to click on each word. It strikes a fine balance between open ended conversation and narrowing the path to make learning easier.
