But the concept is refreshing, and users will love that *2021-09-27, version 1.2.3* Ok couple of things first to say 1. The online dating scene is broken 2. People are unpredictable, and therefore somewhat untrustworthy. 3. Dating apps are just a novelty at best, the worst kind of way to find somebody at worst. Ok now with those outta the way, here's my review of this one: Refreshing and worth sticking around with. Still new so it's got time to perfect things. Firstly, the app now is crashing. I was using it well for 2 days, and today it suddenly decided to not work, and crash every time I go to open it. That is something weird and worrisome because for the past 2 days it worked well. Now it decides to crash on me. Yeah, not good. However the app itself is great. The concept is so much better than hitting up some random person in their dms and being all like "wyd?". It's now focusing on only YOU. Yes you. As a person, and how you'll respond to different questions will determine whom you got in common with the most. Sounds a bit complicated, but really it's not. Finding some common interests is better said than done, however this app does it well. Like I said, some features need tuning, but it's a new app give them space people. Like for example I was matched with somebody from South America. Nice if I was in South America as well, but I wasn't so kinda a leap. Also, the messaging system is still premature. However, with. the right kind of updates they could make the messaging more involving, and get your attention whenever someone has the care in the world to text you back (IF they want to). This app certainly has more pros than cons, and for someone whose not really giving any slightest crap for love and relationships, it's easy to get started and find matches. For someone who is actively looking for someone, easy and simple to use. And you'll get matches. Not based on who looks the best, but based on common interests, which in the long run will be much better than looks alone. And the bugs/kinks will be ironed out soon enough with constant updates. It's a new app, give it time. It will get there. After all, they wanted to change the dating app scene. And Lantern Dating is currently doing just that. Then, the question prompts are saved in the chat to start your conversation. Say no to bad conversations and the walls and walls of hey what’s ups. We deserve better and lantern provides a light at the end of a dark tunnel filled with boring conversation. ### 4/5 — Really fun concept! *2021-04-26, version 1.1.13* Matching with people based on a common answer gives you an ice breaker right away which makes starting a conversation super easy! It would be great to be able to choose categories for the questions (ie movies, politics, sports etc) in order to match with people with more specified shared interests. I’ve used it a little bit, really excited to see what I find. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Pointless. *2022-01-08, version 1.2.6* I haven’t had Lantern for long so I can’t speak on its affects/effects/efficiency in what it advertises. So far all I have done is answer dumb questions that don’t mean anything. That’s not the worst part though. The UI is very slow, when I chose and answer it took a long time for it to register so the next screen would open. Also, there were random videos in between some of the questions that sometimes made sense but only if you think about them really hard, I was just confused why they thought they were needed in the first place. I haven’t used the app for it’s intended/marketing purpose yet, but I plan on it. I am curious. I will return to either update, make a new, or reply to this comment (I’m don’t know the future but I know the options). ### 1/5 — Tried for two weeks *2022-01-02, version 1.2.6* I’ve had this app for two weeks and have had zero matches. Other dating apps I average at least one match per day. ### 1/5 — Couldn’t sign up *2021-10-04, version 1.2.3* Kept getting an “oops! error unknown” message when I’d click “start journey”. ### 1/5 — Straight up waste of time *2021-08-25, version 1.2.3* Answer questions unendingly. Then? There a banner to get you to start paying before anything can happen. Invest your time and money and no trial period? What’s it cost the app to allow a trial period? ### 1/5 — Interminable questions, no people *2021-07-19, version 1.2.1* Apparently the purpose of this app is to have users answer hundreds of inane questions, seemingly written by a robot, a robot completely devoid of wit (or perhaps this the cutting edge of robot wit, I don’t know) for hours on end, until they get tired of answering questions and go on and do something more productive. ### 1/5 — When do I start matching? *2021-07-09, version 1.2.1* I’m very confused with this app. I answer all the questions, I pick the person, and I have no way of actually matching with anyone to talk to them. I’ve reached the “end of my journey” when they say “we have no more questions come back tomorrow.” Yet, I still have no options to chat with anyone? Please don’t tell me that you are required to have premium to chat only. ### 1/5 — Still Too New *2020-11-28, version 1.0.5* I like the concept of the app, but there are a lot of things that are lacking. For one, there is no age filter, meaning the people that the app pick for you could or could not be what you’re looking for. Also, there is no distance filter. Finally, there is no way to go back in and change your preferences once you’ve made them, and you only have one profile picture. Overall, I like what the developers were trying to do, but there are still tons of things that need to be implemented for this to be a true “dating” app. **Developer response:** Hi J4U5, Thank you for the suggestions they are really great! Regarding stuff like distance filter, changing preferences etc yes we had a limited budget for this first version and are now working on implementing these for early 2021! Age range filter is broken, there’s no distance filter as far as I can tell and no information aside from name given before matching. Questions used for matching were really strange and honestly uncomfortable at times. One asked me who I would rather clean up dead animals with? Not for me. ### 2/5 — Has potential *2020-12-04, version 1.0.7* This app seems super new so I wasn’t expecting much in terms of matches. When I opened it up to create my account the first question asked was “which telletubbie would I murder.” Kind of off putting that that’s the first thing I see when I open the app and not really knowing what it’s about. I wish it would have let the time travel question be my first answer after letting me put in my picture. The app itself runs slow and is glitchy. Questions do not load like they should and answer boxes disappear from the screen. Also, there was nowhere to add an orientation that I could see. Lastly, when I answered my first question it said it would find me others who answered like me but then the screen went black and nothing happened. That’s as far as I got really. I can only assume there just isn’t enough users in my area yet and it can’t find anyone to pair with. I will try to come back to this when the app has improved and there are more users because the premise is very interesting I’d love to get to use it. **Developer response:** First off, thank you for taking the time to try the app and write this. The ice breaker questions are fun and interesting. Very small pool of people because the app is not popular. Eventually, app updates stopped happening. Ice breaker questions ran out. No new marketing from the team. No responses to customer service. No more social media presence. Obviously the app had been abandoned.
