### 4/5 — Lap swim

*2025-06-25*

Just doing laps and a good way to track without paying an arm or a leg for..

### 4/5 — Great App but needs refinement

*2022-01-22*

It’s easy to loose count of laps swam during workouts. Lap Swim records and provides the count on the watch face during the swim, then sends a the related data from the watch to the phone when done. That’s where it needs work. The STOP and SAVE buttons are nearly impossible to find by rotating the crown.

### 5/5 — Lap swim review

*2018-10-10*

Delivers as advertised with ease of use and the reliability means no worries about counting laps. Thanks

### 5/5 — Developer is Amazing

*2018-09-18*

Immediate/same day responses to any questions. Follow up phone call to square away upgrade on my iWatch - works like a charm. Best lap tracker ever! Couldn’t train for IM without it.

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2018-07-08*

Just does what it does very well. If you just want to keep a record of fitness and distance it’s perfect. Well done!

### 3/5 — Review and suggestions

*2018-05-23*

Easier stop, save and swim control would be nice, as well as larger font showing which lap I am on, or even better total distance covered.
On half lap/ turnaround auto display for a couple of seconds could inform swimmer while pushing off

**Developer response:** Please see the newer version with large font. Stop/Start is automatic or enabled with a simple rotation of the crown.

### 5/5 — Very useful in the pool.

*2017-12-05*

The problem with the pool swim workout on the watch is that the standard display is difficult to see under water, especially if you need glasses. This app solves that problem with it’s large display setting. I can now see the display whilst gliding after a turn without having to stop.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not for Apple Watch 3

*2023-01-31*

Not accurate at all with my Apple Watch 3. I’ve tried it three times. Read all the directions and it just doesn’t work.

**Developer response:** Incorrect. Please use the "Contact Us" button so we can figure out what you are doing wrong.

### 1/5 — Awful

*2022-06-14*

Was doing my workout, moving along fine. I check the watch for a 2nd time, towards end of workout and entire thing is gone. It just shut off mid swim and all the data was lost.

### 1/5 — Used to work great

*2019-12-13*

Now it crashes every time I want to review my lap times

**Developer response:** Please use the Contact Us button to resolve your problems.

### 2/5 — Has potential but too fiddly starting and stopping workout!

*2025-06-12*

This was nearly what I was looking for but having to turn the crown to select tiny buttons on screen to stop or pause the workout is ridiculous. Also you can only do this once you’ve unlocked the screen. Did a terrible job of counting laps to, missed several.

### 2/5 — Has potential but too fiddly starting and stopping workout!

*2024-07-01, version 2.1.1*

This was nearly what I was looking for but having to turn the crown to select tiny buttons on screen to stop or pause the workout is ridiculous. Also you can only do this once you’ve unlocked the screen. Why can’t it just be paused and stopped the same way the Apple app works using the 2 side buttons. Such a shame.

### 2/5 — I Really Can’t Get This App to Work

*2021-07-23*

I like the idea of this app but the Apple watch interface is completely confusing. It’s also really unattractive. I need instructions please

### 2/5 — Accurate Lap Count

*2018-01-15*

After a couple weeks, I can vouch for its accurate lap counts. Also, I find the best results in “auto” mode. Be warned, it constantly mistakes the breast stroke for a freestyle stroke, thereby seriously over allocating laps as freestyle instead of breaststroke.

**Developer response:** The app uses the orientation of the thumb (pointing down) to differentiate a freestyle stroke from a breaststroke. You can correct errors in the recorded data using the edit function. It's not perfect but is it 2 stars bad? That's a thumbs down rating just because your breaststroke isn't thumbs down.

### 2/5 — Great potential not yet achieved

*2017-06-22, version 1.5*

If it did well all the things it tries to do, this would be an excellent app well worth the modest price to unlock lap counts after the first 250.

Unfortunately in my use of it to date, it simply has not worked. The problems started with the setting screen, accessed by force touch. You would think that when it shows a lock symbol that it must be in locked mode to prevent accidental "taps" as the watch enters the water. Nope. In that mode it accepted taps. You had to set it to show an unlocked symbol to make it actually lock. That looks as if it may have been fixed in the today’s new version which I have not yet tried in the pool. But it is still true that in locked mode, where you use the crown to select buttons, it is nearly impossible to select anything other than Swim. The only practical way to select anything else is to force tap, unlock the screen, and tap on the button.

At this point it shows my lap total as 150, but in my uses of the app I actually swam at least twice as many laps. The low count may have been because I had it set so it was showing Auto Start/Stop. Maybe that feature also had its status display backwards. And maybe now it is right. It’s hard to test until I get in the water again.

After fighting with it for a week or so, I gave up and switched to Pool Swim in Apple's Workout app. It has very few features, but within its limitations it works well. It is not great at counting kickboard laps or one-arm drills (hardly surprising) but otherwise it gives a pretty accurate record of the length and intensity of each workout.

So my challenge to Peter Kramer is to get this excellent concept to actually work as described. At that point I will gladly switch to it, and pay for the unlocking.

### 3/5 — Doesn’t work

*2023-12-28*

Tried to use this app today. Did not record anything. Swam 2200 yards. Disappointed!

### 3/5 — Inconsistent stopwatch function

*2020-06-08*

The lap count works great. Accurate 100% of the time. So if you only want to count laps, it works great. Stop watch is inconsistent and most often inaccurate. After a set of 9 laps, I will compare the app to the poolside digitally displayed stopwatch and the app almost always adds anywhere from 5 to 20 seconds to my time. Today it added a full 45 seconds to what I actually swam according to the poolside stopwatch. Infrequently, it will be somewhat accurate, adding 2-3 seconds to my actual time, which I consider reasonable. Today, after 3 sets of 9 laps, the app was 53 seconds more than what I actually had swam according to the poolside stopwatch. So after adding 45 seconds to the first set, it added 4 seconds to each of the next two sets. When reviewing several days, it’s difficult to determine if I am improving because the app time is so inaccurate.

**Developer response:** I suspect something else is happening because the watch has an accurate timer. The question is when to start and stop that timer. In Manual mode you start and stop it using the crown. I guarantee it is not adding additional time in Manual mode. In Automatic mode it starts on the first stroke (adding 2 seconds) and it stops 10 seconds after the 'last' stroke (and subtracts 8 seconds. It is possible that when you are 'stopped' in between your sets you move your arm and the watch thinks you have started again. Then 10 seconds later it decides you have stopped - but that will add 2+8 seconds because it incorrectly sensed a 'stroke' while you were resting. If this is an issue, revert to Manual mode. (Note - individual lap times are measured from first stroke to first stroke in opposite direction and could be off by a few seconds.) Please use the Contact Us button if you wish to discuss further and consider revising your rating if Manual mode works.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Accurate

*2026-08-10*

It is one of the most accurate accountability for lapse on any watch that I ever used. It is fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone.

### 5/5 — Best swim lap app ever!

*2024-02-27*

It even counts down. Swimming the 500? Set it to 20 and it will count your laps down. Or 64 for the mile.

### 5/5 — Kickboard laps counted

*2023-11-22*

This app can count kickboard laps! How does it do that?

### 5/5 — Lap Swim

*2023-11-05*

Lap Swim is perfect, gives you everything you need without any of the unnecessary stuff, all in a very easy to use format!

### 5/5 — It works!!!!

*2022-12-17*

My ONLY need is counting laps and it did so perfectly!

### 5/5 — Kickboard laps counted

### 5/5 — Lap Swim

### 5/5 — Best swim lap tracking app

*2021-04-29*

I’m a recreational swimmer who tried a number of swim lap tracking apps and by far found Lap Swim to be the easiest to use and most accurate. I start it, dive in and it just works. Highly recommend.

### 5/5 — Works as advertised, unlike Apple Fitness app

*2021-04-21, version 1.6.5*

This app accurately counts the laps and correctly calculates the distance. The Apple Fitness app counts less than half my laps and it equates lap distance with pool length instead of twice the pool length.

The UI takes a bit to get used to. It deviates from other watch apps because the touchscreen doesn’t work when wet.

One suggestion is to keep the app in the foreground when the watch face is dimmed instead of being replace with a clock.

### 5/5 — Best Lap Counter I’ve Found

*2021-02-09*

I have a short pool, typical for Florida. This counter has exactly what I need, laps and time, shown in large and easy to read fonts. It is accurate where other counters have failed or didn’t even allow for length below 10 yards. The developer is extremely responsive.
