Got a PDF of a topographical map? Is that map 110 x 80 inches. None of the document readers in the App store can view and scroll your map with ease? We can, we are happy to work with Map files that are as large as 110 inches or 3 meters wide. Say for example the USA Forestry Service Maps at http://www.fs.fed.us/maps which are 80 by 110 inches unfolded. Other PDF readers optimized for 8.5 by 11 inch page sizes just crash and burn when given such a map, or scrolling becomes ugly. Many governments like Canada provide free maps http://atlas.nrcan.gc.ca Or as an expert use http://mapbox.com to create your own specialized maps. Note we don't supply the Maps you must find those, in PDF, TIFF or JPEG/PNG formats, but once you have them, then you can view them with ease. Es dauert ewig lange bis eine größere (von nur 7 MB) PDF-Datei erst mal geladen ist, dann bleibt sie ständig hängen wenn man den Bildbereich nur etwas verschiebt. Thank you so very much Nancy A.Greene ### 4/5 — Gute technische Basis, Oberfläche müsste optimiert werden *2011-04-01* Der große Vorteil gegenüber anderen Karten-Apps, in die man eigene Karten importieren kann, ist die gute technische Basis bei der Datenhaltung. Während andere Apps bei einer großen Landkarte leicht mal einige tausend Kacheln einzeln in der iTunes-Datensicherung übertragen, speichert diese App nur einige wenige kleine Dateien und zwei große Dateien pro Landkarte. Dadurch läuft die Datensicherung sehr schnell. Denn nicht die Datenmenge bremst die Synchronisierung, sondern eine große Anzahl der zu sichernden Dateien. Die Oberfläche müsste allerdings umgekrempelt werden. Anstatt beim Programmstart die Liste Pick Type mit den Importmöglichkeiten zu zeigen, sollte die Liste der gespeicherten Landkarten gezeigt werden. Denn die Hauptaufgabe dieser App ist doch das Anzeigen der lokal gespeicherten Daten. Die Importfunktionen könnten dagegen in einem Menü untergebracht werden. Bei Wahl eines Eintrags in der Liste der gespeicherten Landkarten sollte sich die Karte sofort in der detaillierten Ansicht von Maps öffnen. Der Zwischenanzeige ist eigentlich Überflüssig. Die Möglichkeit, ein Preview in anderen Apps anzuzeigen, ist auch sinnlos, da die meisten anderen Apps diese riesigen Dateien sowieso nicht anzeigen können. Insgesamt hat die App ein gutes Potential durch die vorteilhafte Datenhaltung und die hohe Darstellungsqualität. ### 1/5 — errors *2011-03-16* I just get errors and freezeups while trying to open a some topo tiffs imported via itunes. Very clunky interface. Useless. ### 2/5 — Unintuitive and slow to pre-render. Transit Maps is better. *2011-02-18* The layout of Maps is unintuitive; there are too many buttons which do similar things. A message keeps popping up advising me that pre-rendering would be faster, but then the pre-render button has vanished. Maybe that's because it's currently pre-rendering, but this is not clear. Anyway, why the big long delay to pre-render something? Why not just treat the PDF or TIFF as tiles, and have the tile I'm zooming in on render? That would be much more efficient. Transit Maps does this well, making it a much better app than this for viewing maps (if only it had a better UI for getting maps in and out of the app). To me, these are the key requirements of a large file viewing app: tiling and good import/export options. Maps does ok at the latter, but not the former. ### 5/5 — Million free maps out there! *2011-01-22* Google says there are like a million free maps out there, but until this app dealing with your normal topographical map on the iPad was a disaster. fuzzy drawing, fade in, scroll pain, crash, boom. This app is so slick, prerender magic and you can zoom scroll no problems. Best of all I can use Dropbox or the itunes connection feature to move maps around. Bonus I realized the Dropbox panel caches downloaded maps so I don't need 3G in the field to get a map up. ### 5/5 — As many maps as I can find *2011-01-21* Not sure why anyone would want to buy those apps that bundle up a single map for the same price as this one. With this app and some time in Google I can find maps for everywhere, and load them into my dropbox account or into local storage. More more cost effective, besides all the other apps seem to deal just with 24x18 inch paper sizes, not the WALL size 36MB PDF files this one is happy to work with and scrolling is soo painful with those other apps.
