### 2/5 — So many bugs..

*2025-09-02, version 5.0.15*

Just subscribed. Keeps kicking me out of the app and telling me I’m not a subscriber. I love LVRJ but I’ll probably end up cancelling if I keep getting kicked out of my subscription. It is super buggy. Needs to be fixed.

### 2/5 — Could enjoy more without pop up video

*2025-04-11*

I love that RJ has an app. But the pop-up video on every article is intrusive, making it my least preferred means to read the news.
Come on guys, we can click a link to watch a video on our own. We don’t need auto play messing things up.

### 2/5 — All the Popups are annoying.

*2025-04-09*

I love the newspaper and pay $20 a month for the online subscription. The online paper is great, but trying to read anything on the app, is really annoying as there are constant popups that just don’t allow you to enjoy it. I can see a free version, but not for a paid version. Seriously thinking to cancel my online subscription.

**Developer response:** Thank you, I will pass that to the developers.

### 2/5 — Less & Less Free Content

*2025-01-15, version 5.0.12*

Look… I know the RJ needs to make money to survive. I get it. But more and more articles, even from alerts THEY send out, require a subscription.

Continued use has become frustrating.

I have deleted the app and no longer follow the RJ on X.

It’s a shame.

### 1/5 — Good news - terrible app

*2024-12-20*

The news itself is good. The app is terrible. Open a news story and about half the time it closes the app. I have never had a video be able to play. (Yes, my phone is up to date.)
While reading articles the ads often refresh moving the entire page and it can be difficult to find where you left off. Then a few moments later it happens again.
Good news — terrible app.

**Developer response:** We have fixed these bugs and you should be able to read the stories without the refresh now. And the videos also work.

### 1/5 — Not true journalism

*2024-10-14, version 5.0.12*

I subscribed for almost a year and today they have endorsed a presidential candidate. Isn’t journalism supposed to be impartial? I don’t want my news source to be partial to a political party.

### 2/5 — Can’t open archived issues on my iPad

*2024-04-10, version 5.0.10*

Although the app is usable to read today’s news, it refuses to open archived issues, merely reopening today’s.

### 2/5 — App still won’t open

*2024-04-05, version 5.0.10*

At least 3 to 4 times each week I must remove the entire app and reinstall. Only on occasion will it ask to update. Are they trying to drive readers away? It sure looks like it.

### 3/5 — Poor iPad zoom functionality

*2023-12-13*

I like to read the e-edition on my iPad. I prefer to pinch to zoom in and out of a page, rather than touch a story to open it entirely (you know, the way you would read a paper newspaper…with a magnifying glass). But it’s a delicate little dance to get the zooming to stay and not push the entire edition off the side of the visible screen. Don’t understand why I can’t zoom in and out wherever I please. Also, greatly miss the ability to message a story link through the app. Now have to find it online and copy the URL to paste in a message. Makes me disinclined to share great journalism with others.

**Developer response:** Can you please email me at lcox@reviewjournal.com for additional assistance? I'd like to go into detail and see if these are things we can resolve for you. Thanks.

### 3/5 — App does not open from email links

*2023-12-10*

Developer responded to this post that it’s a phone function to open links from emails in browser rather than opening app, but they are very wrong! I own many apps that get opened via email links. RJ is the only one that opens browser from email links, and because I’m not logged into the site via the browser opening a new web page, it wants to limit my access to the site. If they would figure out how to open email links in the app , it would make this service I pay monthly for SO much better! I’m not a developer but I can tell you it’s possible based on other apps I own and I did a 2min google search and found that it requires the developer to use “universal links” in coding to force the the phone to check if there is an app before opening safari. Please figure this out and fix!

**Developer response:** If you click on a notification on your phone, it opens in the app. If you click on an email, it opens in your default browser whether mobile or desktop.

### 3/5 — App does not open from email links

*2023-11-23*

RJ sends emails with links to stories but the links open in safari rather than the app. Please fix!!!

**Developer response:** If you click on a notification on your phone, it opens in the app. If you click on an email, it opens in your default browser whether mobile or desktop.

### 2/5 — Lacks good offline support, needs work

*2023-08-24*

The old version let me download the entire edition for offline reading and performance. The new version is constantly updating the screen for readability as you flip from page to page; the old version didn’t do that especially when you downloaded it before reading. Download only has pdf option now, I thought the ‘90’s were over…..

**Developer response:** That is the vendor's software that we use for the eEdition but we are working on getting an offline version. Thank you for your feedback.

### 2/5 — Update is horrible

*2023-08-20*

Previously wrote review complaining of 1” bar at top. After trying to read paper a few minutes, found this bar is for ADVERTISEMENTS! I pay a subscription to this newspaper and it has ads. I don’t need to be inundated with more ads from Google.

Also, the app itself is unusable. Links to open full article don’t work, page swiping doesn’t always work, text is blurry, just to name a few.

### 1/5 — Goes from adequate to awful

*2023-08-20*

The latest update is nothing short of a disaster. It locks up on the tour of changes page and takes a miracle to move on. The navigation is clunky, slow, and lacks logic. Intuitive is not a word that in any way, shape, or form can describe this app. No artificial intelligence whatsoever. In fact, no intelligence of any kind. Having recently canceled our print delivery, I’m seriously rethinking whether or not to abandon the RJ all together.

**Developer response:** Most of these problems have been resolved since it first launched. Please revisit and review. Thank you for your feedback.

### 1/5 — Feels impossible to unsubscribe

*2023-06-23, version 5.0.4*

I want to unsubscribe to this newspaper but the company keeps you on hold for what feels like an eternity. That is not an ethical way to do business. Be wary of subscribing to this service because it will be very difficult to unsubscribe.

### 1/5 — Falling apart

*2023-05-29, version 5.0.4*

The app is horrible, the news are good. Now no news unless you pay for a subscription. Well I don’t pay so no more RJ. Channel 5 Las Vegas is the same but free.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Horrible app

*2026-06-17, version 5.0.21*

How much worse can the app get? Wants me to log in every time? Gonna cancel. News isn’t accurate either.

### 1/5 — Trash

*2026-04-22, version 5.0.18*

There’s a bit of news sprinkled into the barrage of ads and popups in this garbage app

### 1/5 — HORRIBLE

*2025-11-23, version 5.0.16*

Most unstable app for what they call news. Birds doesn’t want it in their cage.

### 1/5 — Paying for 1000s of Ads 👎

*2025-11-14, version 5.0.16*

The pay version of this app has so many ads that you cant even brows the stories. Total rip off! Get your Vegas news elsewhere .

### 1/5 — No I Don’t Want Notifications

*2025-09-17, version 5.0.15*

The app asks for notifications every time I open it. No. I don’t want them. Can you please stop asking.

### 1/5 — 90% ads 10% news

*2025-09-12*

Has opportunity to be the best LV news outlet, but only if you would remove the overly annoying ads. You can’t even open the app without being forced to close a legal advertisement and decline notifications on every single app access. This is the most ridiculously overloaded advertisement app I’ve ever experienced. Spend your $9.99/mo somewhere else.

### 1/5 — Pop up and video

*2025-09-05, version 5.0.15*

The same popup ad for that law firm and videos starting as soon as I open ap or an article is ridiculous. I have a subscription and you over advertise to me. I have a negative view of that law firm because of this pop up and if I wanted to watch videos I would go to youtube.

### 1/5 — Wished I’d never updated

*2025-07-22, version 5.0.14*

This app went from okay to awful. I’m a subscriber and I’m still getting constant ad pop-ups in the app and pop-ups encouraging me to change my settings so I get notifications which I do not want… would give this current version of the app zero stars if I could.

### 1/5 — More pop ups than a porn site

*2025-05-19*

It’s not enough apparently that every time I go into the app I’m greeted by grinning lawyers asking if I’ve been injured. No, on top of that, IOS does a pop up over the other pop up reminding me to turn on notifications from the app. I don’t mind being asked once. But this is asking every single time. This should be fixed.

### 1/5 — Makes you pay! Can’t read articles

*2025-04-22, version 5.0.12*

The app is horrible. It also makes you pay to read the article in full. They don’t tell you this until you download it for free and realize articles can’t be read!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Update is horrible

*2023-09-08*

Previously wrote review complaining of 1” bar at top. After trying to read paper a few minutes, found this bar is for ADVERTISEMENTS! I pay a subscription to this newspaper and it has ads. I don’t need to be inundated with more ads from Google. Also, the app itself is unusable. Links to open full article don’t work, page swiping doesn’t always work, text is blurry, just to name a few.

Edit review - app updated and issues resolved. Google ads still appear but now with the option to close the ad.

**Developer response:** Most of these items have been resolved. Please revisit and review again. Thank you for your feedback.

### 5/5 — Excellent excellent app redesign

*2020-02-24, version 4.0.2*

Keep up the great work guys.

### 5/5 — Love this new app!

*2020-01-14, version 4.0.1*

The new app is so much better than the previous version - and I love the ability to set up alerts based on the topics I’m interested in.

### 5/5 — New app is so much better

*2020-01-14*

I just downloaded the new app and it is already a huge improvement. You can see all the stories current and past plus other content that wasn’t available before.
The layout makes it much easier to go from story to story. Pictures are so much better too.

### 5/5 — Great app for reading news

*2017-03-06, version 2.7.15*

Great app for reading local and national news. I'm also a digital subscriber and can read the paper anytime.

### 5/5 — Good job thank you

*2017-03-05, version 2.7.15*

Thank you

### 4/5 — Overall Good App but One Thing Missing

*2023-03-20*

I like the app and the Las Vegas Review, lots of good articles and alerts based on my settings. The one major item missing is the ability to bookmark articles you like.

**Developer response:** Thank you, I will pass that to the developers.

### 3/5 — App still won’t open from email links!!

*2024-06-13*

All the other apps I have with email subscriptions (Nevada Independent, New York times cooking, Americas test kitchen, among others) seem to have no problem opening the app when links are selected from emails except this one. Instead, it opens a web link that doesn’t know that I have a subscription so it warns me that I have limited access and I need to login. This is very annoying!

**Developer response:** If you click on a notification on your phone, it opens in the app. If you click on an email, it opens in your default browser whether mobile or desktop.

### 3/5 — Good source for local news but no in-app subscription

*2024-06-01*

I don't have an issue with the app. It is a good source for local news. What is preventing me from subscribing is that there is no in-app subscription. The app store information states that there is an in-app purchase option. The app settings menu has a term of service that indicates the subscription will be through apple. However, when you click any of the subscription options it takes you to the RJ site. One of the best things about purchasing through in-app purchases is the ability to consolidate and easily manage all of your subscriptions in one place. No more having to figure out how to change or cancel a subscription. If you look at the fine print of RJs terms of service (after they forward you to their website to subscribe), you will find that the cancel process involves calling a number. You know how that goes. Hard no for me. Offer in-app and I'll subscribe.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the review. We did used to have in app subscriptions, but now it is handled outside the app as you noted. We are unable to remove it from the description. You can visit our customer service help desk and chat to a representative if you need to cancel. Thank you.

### 3/5 — Update

*2023-12-14*

When I open the app it says there is an update when I click on the update message it takes me to the App Store where there is NO update button only an open button. Is there an update???

**Developer response:** The app should update automatically according to your phone settings. If it takes you to the app store and it says OPEN then the app is already updated.
