I don’t know why Apple keeps letting developers get away with what feels like false advertising on the App Store. This game was ranked first in the Strategy category last week but has already slipped to 14th, which perhaps says something. I downloaded it expecting a simple, relaxing puzzle game to play for a few minutes here and there. Instead, it’s another zombie-apocalypse pay-to-win clone. Before you can even start playing, you’re forced to dismiss several pop-ups urging you to spend money. The gameplay also feels unnecessarily complicated rather than genuinely deep. There are so many menus, battles and systems thrown at you that I found myself clicking through screens without really understanding what was going on. If you’ve played similar mobile strategy games before, you’ll recognise most of it. I’ve been playing for a week and there are enjoyable moments, but they’re constantly interrupted by prompts to buy this, that and the other. Even basic features, such as alliances, become frustrating because members continually disappear or disband.
