## What is Latent?

A latent image is what a frame of film holds after exposure, before development — a picture that already exists, but can't yet be seen. The photograph is born the moment you press the shutter; it just hasn't appeared.

Latent keeps that latent image for every shot you take: the full RAW negative. Any photo can return to that moment — load a different film stock, rebalance the exposure, and develop it again.

Capture
- 48MP ProRAW (DNG), falls back to HEIC on unsupported devices
- Manual EV, shutter, ISO, focus and white balance — just slide to adjust
- Multiple focal lengths / lenses
- 4:3 / 3:2 / 16:9 / 1:1 aspect ratios, HDR supported (and recommended)
- Shoot from the Lock Screen with the Camera Control button

Film simulation
- No need to dig into parameters — building a film look you like is easy
- Tone, warmth, grain and vignette are all adjustable
- Like the colors in some photo? The app can generate a preset from it
- Support LUT import

Photos
- Every shot keeps a clean untouched original plus the DNG; the film look is just a layer on top
- Swap presets, tweak settings, fix exposure, rotate and crop any time after shooting
- All non-destructive — you can revert to the original right in the Photos app
- Import old photos from your library and give them a preset too

## Key features

- 48MP ProRAW (DNG) capture
- Manual camera controls

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3.0 — 2026-09-01

1.3.0 · Update

- Rendering pipeline rebuilt:
  - RAW-first develop — film recipes grade the DNG develop directly, instead of stacking on the in-camera HEIC
  - HDR is now encoded as Adaptive HDR (gain map), the graded SDR re-lit by the camera's own gain field — viewfinder, editor and library finally agree
  - End-to-end Display P3 color management; LUTs sample in their declared color space
  - Starburst and Black Mist now keep HDR — rays and halation light up with their sources
- Fixed LUT colors rendering incorrectly in some cases
- Fixed HDR displaying incorrectly in certain situations
- New shooting tools: level, focus peaking, zebra stripes and grid (swipe up on the viewfinder)
- Plus plenty of UI updates and animation polish — hope you like it (・ω・)ノ

### 1.2.0 — 2026-08-19

The roll library welcomes outside film — LUT import is here.

• Import 3D LUTs (.cube) as rolls you can load anytime, with a strength dial that stacks with tone, grain, and vignette
• Log-input LUTs (F-Log / F-Log2 / F-Log2C) are detected automatically: Fujifilm's official film simulation LUTs are converted to photo color on import, preserving their intended exposure and highlight roll-off
• Open .cube files directly in Latent from the Files app or AirDrop
• LUT rolls now carry their own badge in the roll library

### 1.1.1 — 2026-08-18

• Bug fixes and performance improvements

### 1.1 — 2026-08-17

Added FX Filters:

• Flare — star rays on highlights
• Mist — Black Pro-Mist style glow and softness
• Paint — Oil, Smear, or Mosaic

### 1.0 — 2026-08-12
