Great app overall but you need to pay either monthly or $50 flat fee to use it to save more than 10 links, and I think I’m just frustrated how many apps are tryna make money, and I’m here to just have a simple utility and solve a problem. Almost every single app out here wants money and I don’t want to and can’t pay for every single app.

Ich bin - wie wahrscheinlich gerade viele - zu Later gekommen, weil die Pocket-App abgeschaltet wurde.
Later hat mir im Vergleich mit anderen Apps am besten gefallen, weil sie sich auf das Wesentliche beschränkt.
Ein kleines Manko sehe ich aber noch: Es wäre toll, wenn man eine Suchfunktion für die Tags hätte, sobald man einen Link aus dem Browser heraus in der App speichern möchte.
Momentan muss man noch durchscrollen, was sehr lästig ist, wenn man viele Tags hat.

**Developer response:** You're in luck! The latest version (2025.27.1) has tag search built in, so whenever you're saving a link you can search for tags rather than scrolling the long list if you've lots of them! 🏷️

The app works well and uses tags instead of folders, which is fine, but it doesn’t clearly explain what comes with a subscription or what the free plan limits are. After importing everything from Instapaper overnight, I was suddenly told the next day to upgrade to Premium without knowing what I’d be paying for. There’s no Shortcuts integration, no widgets, and no support for Windows, which makes it hard to consider using or paying for the app seriously.

I really love this app so far and signed up for the annual subscription after the first 10 links for free went so well!  There was a little hiccup that it got stuck on the subscription page not letting me add any more even though it said I was subscribed but that cleared up after a day or two.  

Only thing that would make this app better is being able to save other things like photos but I understand it’s only links right now.  Still super great and I love being able to make tags to sort and color code them.

I am a paying member, but still get prompted to subscribe. I clicked the "Restore subscription" button and login to my Apple ID, but nothing happens. Very annoying bug.

Wonderful tool, beautifully designed. A minor complaint: there is apparently a limitation where after 10 added items it asks you to subscribe, but this isn't mentioned anywhere — so kind of takes you by surprise.

First off, five stars automatically for any app like this that respects privacy and giving the user power locally. My question is, is this actually storing part of the website on the device as well? If so, that is awesome and it would replace apps such as Wallabag andstop me from having to need to self host my own server.

About your question: yes, if you save the link offline, it generates a WebArchive of the website that's stored locally on your device (and synced to other devices via iCloud) and can be opened even when you're offline. You can try it out by saving a link offline, turning on AirPlane mode and then opening the link! 🙌🏼

This app is really really good. Have saved so much with it and there doesn’t seem to be anything that it won’t save. Very handy to create folders and tags. Would recommend this app for saving anything you need to read later. Works superb.

Hello!

I have been very satisfied with this app since I've started using it. However, with the recent update (Version 4.8) I'm finding it takes more time to save links. Previously, I was good with the way the links were saved and I didn't find it bad to go to the app whenever I had to so the saved links could load. This time, I find it tedious for it to take me to the app itself each time and the loading time takes quite a bit. If it's possible to revert this change or have the option for users to pick between one or the other, that'd be great! Thank you.

I never got a chance to use the app when I was promoted to rate it. That’s an automatic 1-star and negative review.

Then, on every subsequent relaunch, or even when switching back to from another app, it prompts me to upgrade to the paid version. Mind you, this is before I’ve saved a single bookmark.

If the app is this pushy now, I don’t expect the experience to improve, because the developer clearly doesn’t care about the user experience.

**Developer response:** Sorry you feel so strongly against paid apps. Later is a privacy focused read-later app, which means it'll never show ads nor track it's users.

Because of that, Later needs user payments to keep the lights on. If you haven't checked it, there's also a one-time payment if you don't want to subscribe! 👀

Latest update notifies me that it needs iOS 17 in order to update, which I do not currently have. It then prompts me to download an older version, which I already have installed, but when I click yes, it fails to do anything, and then stops ALL the updates of all my other apps! Ummmm….I smell deletion of this app coming.

Nachtrag 2021 - Die App wurde viel besser allerdings ist die Aufforderung zur Abgabe einer Bewertung super aufdringlich. Tags können zwar vergeben aber das ist immer noch zu umständlich. Ich kann im sharesheet zwar Notizen hinzufügen aber keine Tags vergeben. Dazu muss man in die App. Für mich der falsche Ort für eine schnelle Zuordnung.

Wunderbar, ein privater (nicht öffentlich zugänglicher) Speicherplatz für URLs die ich für Projekte recherchiere. Manchmal fällt mir unterwegs was ein und ich recherchiere am iPhone oder iPad und Speicher die Links in Abyss ab. Für eine einfache Suche bekommen die URLs zusätzlich Schlagwörter und/oder Notizen. Alles synchronisiert sich über die iCloud zwischen iOS, iPadOS und macOS. Wenn ich dann das Projekt am Mac bearbeite kann ich mit Abyss auf die Links zugreifen. Beim Workflow über das Sharesheet von iOS wünsche ich mir eine einfachere Vergabe der Schlagwörter ansonsten TOP!

Durch das letzte Update habe ich alle Einträge verloren. Auch das neue Update hatte die verlorenen Einträge nicht wieder gebracht. 
In der Vergangenheit war ich sehr begeistert.

**Developer response:** Hi Fehler. The restore takes a few minutes. Simply wait and all your saved links will appear, nothing is lost because everything is safely stored on iCloud.

Unverständlicherweise hat sich der Entwickler dazu entschieden, die Mac-Version für Catalina nicht weiter zu unterstützen. Damit ist diese App für mich auch unter iOS nutzlos geworden. Ärgerlich, dass ich mich nach einem halben Jahr schon wieder nach einer Alternative umsehen muss.

Finde ich es schade, dass es diesen Dienst nur als App gibt - dafür dass ich zahle, hätte ich auch gerne eine Desktop-Version oder zumindest eine funktionierende Chrome-Erweiterung. Dann gibt es auch 5 Sterne.

**Developer response:** Hey there! There's definitely a desktop version for macOS, and a Chrome extension that allows you to save links to Later with a single click! If you were looking for a Windows (or any other OS that's not Apple's), I'm sorry but the tight privacy requirements Later has prevents the app from working on anything that's not macOS, iOS or iPadOS.

I really like Abyss a lot. however the MacOS app will not stop crashing. As soon as I try to scroll down it instantly closes with no warning. It also closes most of the time when I add a new site from the share menu. 

I really hope this can be fixed as I spent 2 days  sorting 600 links, then moving and re-tagging almost 300 of them from Wallabag before realizing this bug that completely prevents me from using the app. 

The iOS app seems to be perfectly fine. 

Assuming the crashing stops, Abyss would easily be 4 stars as it is. However there are a few features & improvments that would just absolutely knock it out of the park. 

1. The ability to select multiple tags at a time. With only 300 links, its already a little cumbersome to find what im looking for. Thankfully the tags are brightly colored which helps. 

2. The ability to add new tags from the share menu, and the ability to find exisiting tags by typing instead of having to scroll through the whole list. 

3. The ability to create groups of links. Such as if your collecting links for a specific project. Instead of creating yet another tag, you could create a group or a folder to keep them all together. 

4. When right clicking a link, the "remove tags" menu should only show the tags that are actually on the link you selected instead of just showing them all.

I really hope to see this app get better and better as I have tried all the others and this seems to be the only one that was made by someone who actually cares.

This aims for exactly what you need, and nothing that you don’t need. It works great! I had one small issue a long time ago that really ended up being nothing. The key is the developer responded quickly. The other key is there hasn’t been any other issues.

This has always been my go-to since it was called Abyss- it’s really nicely made and has never been buggy for me- very reasonably priced for how active and responsive the dev is! I like the new icon! My only criticism is that it used to not move you from what you were saving- to the app. My understanding is that the previous way was not ideal and not possible after a certain point- but boy do I miss it! 
The best link hoarding app out there!

The app works really well. I used a different bookmark manager in the past, but it import type wasn’t supported. I tried to convert my export to Pocket or Instapaper format, but no luck. I reached out to Xavi, the developer, to see if he could give me an example import file to copy from. He replied quickly and asked for a sample file, and within a few hours, he added support for a new format!

This is exactly what I’d been looking for, even back when Pocket was still around. A simple, convenient, and functional app! I imported all 300+ of my saved sites from Pocket without any issues and updated the metadata for all of them with just a couple of clicks. Superb! Subscribed right away. Thank you!

Ein simples Tool nach dem Motto “doing one thing well” aus dem Linux-Handbuch. Die leicht zu findende Offline-Option zur Erstellung von webarchives macht es besonders angenehm. Eine Integration mit Pinboard könnte noch interessant sein. Deutlich weniger Features als Anybox, aber eben auch weniger complex zu verstehen. Für 90% der User mit Sicherheit ausreichend.
