I would expect an update to be an improvement on the original. This is worse. Bass patterns are worse. And there are no additional piano and bass patterns. How about including some basics like minor ii V progressions and 8
bar standard salsa progressions. Come on!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback, Josh, and for picking this up in the first couple of days. One clarification first: Latin Rhythm isn't an update to Salsa Rhythm. It's a new app that includes everything in Salsa Rhythm, adds merengue, and will keep adding genres over time. Salsa Rhythm stays salsa-only and continues on its own, and it's planned to get the new audio engine and pattern improvements down the road.

For a two-day-old release, though, that's a strong reaction to an app that already contains most of what you're asking for. The ii-V progressions are in there: ii-V-I-I, a short ii-V-I-I, and I-IV-ii-V. So are the salsa standards, including i-iv-V-iv (the "Vámonos pal Monte" progression) along with a major version of it in three different forms, I-V-V-I in both major and minor versions, and several sections from standard tunes. The flick gesture pages through all of them quickly.

And there are new piano and bass patterns. The whole merengue style is new, with 13 new piano patterns and 13 new bass patterns to go with them. Beyond that, the bigger change was under the hood: the audio engine was rebuilt from the ground up so that new piano, bass, and other instrument patterns can be written and added far faster than before. The rest of the work went into how the app plays: the bass pattern now follows the piano automatically when you change parts, you can flick left and right to switch patterns quickly, flick up or down to mute, and the tempo and volume controls were reworked into long-press overlays. This version was built to be stable first and to ship, and it is. It's the foundation for the next several updates, which will include expanding the pattern library, among other goodies.

One more note: the salsa bass patterns carried over from Salsa Rhythm. Where anything changed, it was a correction, and nothing was taken away. If a specific pattern sounds off to you, email hey@districtonemobile.com with the pattern name and I'll take a look.
