## What is Lawn Apprentice?

Lawn care advice made for your lawn, not a calendar.

Lawn Apprentice knows your grass, your yard's size, your soil and your local weather, and tells you what your lawn needs this week: when to put down pre-emergent, when to feed, how much to water, and what that spot in the yard is. It's free.

MEET CLOVER, YOUR LAWN ASSISTANT
Ask anything, the way you'd ask a neighbor who knows lawns.
• Snap a photo of a weed or a problem spot, and Clover tells you what it likely is and what to do about it.
• Clover works from your lawn's own data: your grass type, soil test, local weather and everything you've done this season.
• Products are checked before Clover recommends them: safe for your grass type, usable with your spreader or sprayer, allowed in your state, and timed right for this week's weather.
• "How much do I need?" is worked out for your square footage, down to how many bags or bottles to buy.
• Tell Clover "I mowed today" or "remind me to feed in four weeks" and it logs or schedules it for you.

A LAWN PLAN BUILT FROM YOUR LOCAL WEATHER
Your Lawn Plan comes from three years of your area's weather history and your soil temperature, not a fixed date that only fits one part of the country.
• Pre-emergent when your soil actually warms enough for crabgrass.
• Feedings spaced and sized for your grass, in the right seasons for it.
• Overseeding, aeration and other seasonal jobs when they'll work best where you live.
• What to buy for each step, starting with the first application.
• Review every step before anything is added, and move or skip any of them.

WHAT TO DO TODAY
The Today card on your home screen tells you what matters right now.
• Watering based on how much water is actually left in your soil, from rain, your sprinklers and evaporation.
• A heads-up when heat is coming or the weather turns right for lawn diseases like brown patch, dollar spot or large patch.
• Reminders when mowing, feeding or a task is due, and when rain is on the way.

YOUR LAWN SCORE
One number for whether your lawn care is on track: mowing, feeding, watering, seasonal jobs and your soil test. Every part explains what's behind it and what to do next.

MORE TOOLS
• Sprinkler schedule with zones and an automatic rain skip.
• Soil test: snap a photo of your lab report and Clover reads it for you.
• Measure your lawn on a map, and save areas like the front and back yard with their own sizes.
• Seasonal reminders for pre-emergent, overseeding, aeration and blade sharpening.
• A log of everything you've done, with photos.

FOR EVERY KIND OF LAWN
Tall fescue, Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, bermuda, zoysia, St. Augustine and centipede, in cool-season, transition-zone and warm-season climates across the US. State rules are built in, from lawn phosphorus laws to Florida's summer fertilizer bans.

FREE TO USE
Lawn Apprentice is free. When you buy a product through the app's Shop links, we may earn a small commission from the retailer, at no extra cost to you. Products are recommended because they fit your lawn, not because of who sells them.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.8 — 2026-11-04

Version 1.3.7 fixes photo identification, adds bahia grass, and lets you log work on just part of your yard.

WHAT'S NEW
• Bahia grass: pick it for your lawn and get advice, timing and product checks made for it.
• Log work on one part of your yard: if you've saved areas like the front and back, choose where a mow, feeding or treatment went. Your plan and score count the job done once the whole lawn has it.
• Send feedback: share an idea or report a problem from My Lawn. It goes straight to the developer.

IMPROVEMENTS
• Updated app foundation for the latest iOS, with faster fixes from here on.
• Forms open fresh each time, without a flash of the last entry.

FIXES
• Photos sent to Clover for weed and disease identification could fail with a connection error. They go through again.

### 1.1.7 — 2026-11-01

Version 1.3.6 gives Clover a smarter brain, keeps your photos and watering history, and plans what to buy.

WHAT'S NEW
• Smarter Clover: it thinks through your question before answering, and can look things up online when your lawn's data doesn't cover it, like a local mowing ordinance or an unusual weed.
• Photos you send Clover stay in the chat when you come back.
• What to buy: each Lawn Plan step shows how much product it needs for your lawn, and the plan review lists what to get for your first application.
• Lawn areas: save parts of your yard, like the front and back, with their own sizes, typed in or measured on the map. Ask Clover how much you need for just one.
• Seasonal reminders: a notification on the morning pre-emergent, overseeding, aeration or bermuda scalping usually comes due where you live. Turn them on or off in Settings.
• Mower blade reminders when mowing season starts and after about 25 mows.
• New Soil Amendment activity for lime, gypsum, topsoil, compost and sand.

IMPROVEMENTS
• Your sprinkler schedule is saved to your account, so it follows you to a new phone.
• Sprinkler runs are logged with how much water they put down, including days you didn't open the app.
• Florida lawns follow the summer fertilizer bans: no nitrogen or phosphorus from June 1 to September 30 in your plan, score and recommendations.
• Tapping a notification takes you to the right screen, even when the app was closed.
• Clover can log and schedule a scalp or soil amendment for you.
• The Store's picks update as the seeding and fall pre-emergent windows open and close.
• Small photos are no longer stretched before Clover sees them, so they stay sharp.

FIXES
• Turning your sprinklers off or changing the schedule no longer erases past watering from your score.
• When Clover offers to change your lawn profile, the card now shows your current value.
• Clover no longer says you have no sprinklers when they're just switched off.

### 1.1.6 — 2026-10-23

WHAT’S NEW
• Seasonal jobs timed to your lawn: pre-emergent, overseeding, aeration, grub prevention, bermuda scalping and winter ryegrass now follow your soil temperature and local weather instead of the calendar, and shift with a warm or cold spring or fall.
• Disease alerts: Home warns you when your weather favors brown patch, dollar spot, large patch or gray leaf spot, and tells you what to do.
• Nitrogen tracking: the app adds up how much nitrogen your lawn has had this season against what your grass needs. Your Lawn Plan, score and Clover all use it.
• Clover can save your soil test from a photo of the lab report (you confirm before anything is saved).
• Share Clover’s answers with the new Share button.

IMPROVEMENTS
• Clover talks more like a neighbor and less like a manual, and answers faster.
• Clover recommends the same products as your Lawn Plan and the Store, matched to your sprayer or spreader.
• Clover knows when your next feeding should go down, and won’t suggest one too soon after the last or right before a planned one.
• Asking Clover about a score now tells you what’s coming next instead of repeating the card.
• Clover follows up better on earlier messages, and knows more about moss, drought, pet spots, salt and frost damage, animal digging and spills.
• Watering advice tells you how much to put down, even before your rain history loads.
• Soil pH is judged for your grass type (centipede prefers it lower).
• Without a saved address, Clover asks for your location instead of guessing your season.

FIXES
• Logging an activity now completes the matching task, and plan steps you did aren’t marked missed.
• No pre-emergent suggested within 60 days of seeding, and no feeding for dormant grass or cool-season grass in summer heat.
• Seeding is held during summer heat, and fall pre-emergent is only suggested while it can still work.
• Ryegrass for winter color is no longer refused on bermuda.
• Your lawn data loads as soon as you sign in.

### 1.1.5 — 2026-10-18

What's new in 1.3.4

Smarter watering advice

	•	Watering now follows how much water your soil and grass roots can actually hold, using your local weather. You'll get a heads-up before your lawn runs dry, not after.
	•	Clover tells you how much to water at a time and how often for your soil type. Sandy soil gets shorter, more frequent waterings.

A lawn score that makes sense

	•	If you're keeping up with your lawn, your score now stays high. It starts to slip just before something comes due, not after you've fallen behind.
	•	In winter, dormant grass shows "Dormant" instead of being marked down for mowing and feeding it doesn't need.

How much to buy

	•	Product pages and Clover's product cards show exactly what to buy for your lawn, like "1 × 45 lb bag", based on the label rate and the sizes the store sells.
	•	Prices are gone because they were often out of date. The Shop button now names the store it opens.

Products that fit where you live

	•	Products that can't be sold in your state are no longer recommended.
	•	In states with lawn phosphorus laws, phosphorus fertilizer is only suggested for seeding or when your soil test shows it's needed.

Lawn Plan improvements

	•	If your soil test shows low phosphorus, your plan now includes a feeding that adds it.
	•	Steps you've already done or planned are no longer added again.
	•	Past-due steps move to "Missed" instead of staying overdue forever.
	•	Summer plans for warm-season grass include their feedings again.

Better answers from Clover

	•	Clover checks any product you ask about, by brand or active ingredient, and tells you clearly if it isn't safe for your grass.
	•	More accurate disease advice, including dollar spot and brown patch.
	•	Clover looks up label rates, and won't help you go above them.
	•	Clover checks your equipment before recommending a product, so a spreader user won't be told to spray.

Fixes

	•	Heat and brown patch warnings no longer repeat for weeks.
	•	Home now tells you when weather didn't load, with a Try again button.
	•	A lawn without a saved location now prompts you to add one.
	•	No more mowing reminders for dormant grass.
	•	General stability improvements.

### 1.1.4 — 2026-10-14

Version 1.3.4 is a full redesign, plus new planning features and a long list of fixes.

WHAT'S NEW
• New design: five tabs (Home, Plan, Clover, Store, My Lawn) replace the old layout, with a new app icon and dark mode that follows your iPhone.
• Lawn Plan: ask Clover or tap Plan to draft your season's feedings, weed prevention and seeding from your local weather history. You review each step before anything is added.
• If you do a feeding late, the rest of your plan shifts to keep the spacing right, and you'll get a reminder when the next season's plan is ready.
• Home now opens with a short note from Clover about what to do today, or what to skip and why.
• Clover's product suggestions now come as cards showing price, label rate and buttons to shop or schedule.
• The Store has a "Curated for you" section matched to your grass, season, equipment and soil test.

IMPROVEMENTS
• Clover checks your upcoming tasks before suggesting more, uses a calculator for every amount, and won't suggest products that could hurt new seedlings.
• Chat suggestions now change with your weather and season.
• Your lawn score now starts from what you've logged instead of counting unlogged items as zero.
• The Log and Program tabs are now one Plan tab.

FIXES
• Reminders now follow your notification settings.
• The sprinkler schedule waits for the forecast before running on rainy days.
• Tasks you rescheduled and soil test dates no longer show up a day early.
• Rain no longer shows as 0" while the weather is loading.
• Completing a task now logs it once instead of twice.
• Fixed saves that failed silently and a chat spinner that could get stuck, plus accessibility improvements.
