Usually they would yell at me and call the police, but sometimes they would laugh and say “Help yourself, idiot”, and gesture to an empty garbage container. On those days, I would know that the trash had been collected that morning, so all I had to do was just wait 6 more days from that date and then I would set out my own garbage.
