I’ve been looking for a way to share a handful of sketches at the same time, without making a Post. This layout app does exactly what I need: gives me a frictionless way of grabbing a handful of photos and laying them out together in a single Story. Been using it for a week now and the only unmet desire I’ve had was _saving_ instead of just sharing: I can’t save the collage to my photos (I can “Save to Files” — that’s not what I want though) I can only do the equivalent of copy-pasting. I might write a Shortcut to do it, so not a big deal. Just feedback. ### 4/5 — Back and working smooth *2023-07-06* I downloaded layout in 2019 and it quickly became my go-to app for quick collage making for Instagram and other social media platforms. It worked great until a year or two ago when it starting glitching out and closing on opening. I thought it was dead until the other day when I saw some of the other review comments. It’s working smooth again and as I used it before, it’s great for making quick picture collages without overkill on menus, navigation, and things that slow some similar apps down. Plus it’s integration with Instagram (and Facebook) makes sharing smooth and efficient! You can also use some other sharing options and/or save to your phone camera to share on other socials, text friends, or email. 4 stars easy! I’d give it 5 stars if it didn’t die for that extended time but when it was working and if it stays working, it’s usefulness is 5/5. ### 3/5 — Almost perfect *2022-11-10, version 1.2.6* This is (was) my favorite layout app BY FAR but the constant crashing has been enough to send me looking for a new one to love. I’ve been using it for about 3 years to assist with photo collages for animal rescue. I use it a ton during my week. But after an update something changed and started glitching. I can select my pictures and format but if I try to go back and choose a different format or edit which picture I’m using…it crashes, forcing me to start all over again. Aside from that, this app is so simple to use without the extras and “fluff” a lot of apps force you into wading through to get to the collage process. Just select pictures and format, edit borders if you need to, and done. I sincerely wish they would fix that glitch but until then I’ll keep searching for a better app. ### 3/5 — Glitchy & Crashes continuously *2022-09-28, version 1.2.6* Every time I open the app it freezes and crashes, this will happen multiple times while trying to add pics, pick layout, adjust photos, etc etc etc. no matter how many updates, it’s been this way since I downloaded the app over a year ago. I never use it often enough to go through the hassle of finding another app and worrying about in app charges, giving ANOTHER place your email, another account login to remember 🤪 the app is great if it didn’t crash- so 3 stars, use with patience 😅 ### 2/5 — Once useful but no longer works on my iPhone *2022-08-26, version 1.2.6* Doesn’t even make it past the loading screen before crashing. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled several times and I give up, so I’m deleting it from my phone. I will give it two stars because it was a decent app when it worked - although it could use a LOT more customization options; even just different border colors would be nice - and it still works on my iPad, but it’s useless on my phone, where I take 90% of photos and do 90% of my posting. ETA: Also, why does Instagram Layout need access to anyone’s Health information? Sneaky Meta. ### 2/5 — Dope but Nope *2022-08-09, version 1.2.6* Really convenient and awesome when it works. It seems Facebooks team dropped the ball. You have to make this compatible across iOS. It crashes every time I try to load it. Either you’re not investing in programming or you don’t care. Either way I understand. That’s a lot of new tech to account for. I’d just think for, what I’m hopefully praying you’re paying these people, that it would work. It’s a picture framing program. I think I had one of these on Windows 95. It’s not absolute garbage. When it works it is awesome and S tier. When it crashes; we’ll obviously that’s G tier. F tier is for abysmal, G is for good riddance. Expand your team. Stop the cash grab, and maybe more people would invest in your shenanigans. “Oh, you tried from an iPhone model that wasn’t this cycle?” -Meta “Phones break. Backup phones exist. Your lack of foundation to provide a cohesive experience is on you.” -Savory This app hasn’t even worked on my pro. This is not Apple’s fault. This is yours. ### 3/5 — Please fix the time issue. *2022-04-26, version 1.2.6* PLEASE fix this app. It is one of the best collage apps. My favorite part of THIS app is the ability to size individual images within the collage. The other apps have ‘fixed’ borders. I like being able to fit in certain photos. The biggest problem is that it crashes or closes before I can even finish making something. It only works for a very short time. Often not with enough time unless I hurry thus making it sloppy. Sometimes I have to do it over and over until I’m satisfied. Not easy. Please fix that time issue. Thank you. ### 2/5 — Please fix stability *2022-01-03, version 1.2.6* Honestly the frequency this app crashes is ridiculous. Oftentimes, I haven’t even finished selecting photos, and a suggested layout before it crashes, much less actually resize and rearrange. Every time, I have to go back and scroll through my camera roll AGAIN to find the pictures I wanted. It usually takes a minimum of 2-3 tries to actually finish the whole process, and it’s obnoxious. If it weren’t for the stability issue, this would easily be a 5-star app: the flexibility (ability to move borders, make borders disappear, etc) is simple yet effective. That’s the only reason this isn’t a 1-star review. Please fix. ### 4/5 — Bug Issues with Layout App on IOS 15 *2022-01-02, version 1.2.6* I downloaded the not too long after getting Instagram some years ago. It’s a great basic app and I use it a lot. I especially like how easy it to resize the picture boarders something you can’t due in other similar apps I’ve tried in the past. Most recently had to upgrade my iPhone 6s operating system to IOS 15 and the problems started. After downloading IOS 15 I went to use the Layout as usual the app started up and then stayed in the boot up position with app logo for 60 seconds them crashes. I tried restarting my iPhone etc. nothing seams to work. Pleas consider looking in to the situation and fix bugs. ### 4/5 — It could use an update. *2022-01-02, version 1.2.6* The app could use more features like different filters or you can add text like you would do in the instagram app. It shouldn’t only be limited to the instagram app. Also even though you can flip your pictures why doesn’t the layout app follow your phone cameras setting. For example if I have the option mirror front camera then why does the picture automatically flip. The picture may not come out the same even if you flip it afterwards. ### 4/5 — I’m always happy with my end pictures *2021-10-13, version 1.2.6* I’ve been doing this for a couple years now and I downloaded it not when I got Instagram but, just to see what I could do and if I could recommend it to my friends or family. I ended up loving and telling most of my friends and family that have Instagram or Facebook. I used it a lot when I did before and after pictures and my other friends loved they could post two photos instead of one. I think anyone with on Instagram or Facebook who want to post 2-4 pictures. ### 2/5 — I love the app - HATE that it crashes ALL THE TIME *2021-09-26, version 1.2.6* I, too, always come back to Layout. I have several other collage apps but Layout is simple & easy to use. HOWEVER, it takes me at least 7 tries to create a collage because as soon as I select my pictures & begin to adjust them within the collage, the app crashes (it literally just quits). It is SO frustrating. I have searched trouble-shooting the problem on the internet & have done EVERYTHING: deleted & reinstalled the app, rebooted my phone, updated my iOS version, etc, all to NO avail. I’ve used Layout for years & the problem gets increasingly worse. PMEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM! ### 3/5 — Faulty app? *2021-08-04, version 1.2.6* I loved this app, and I’ve had it forever. I had it on my iphone xs and now my iphone 12 mini BUT for as long as ive had it, my instagram kept crashing, overheating my phone, and draining my battery. As well as i kept getting hacked or having random logins from other countries (mainly russia). I thought the problem would resolve once i bought a new phone, but it followed me. I couldn’t be on the instagram app for longer than 30 seconds before it crashed. Then today, i was using this layout app to edit something and the layout app CRASHED. it did it several times before it occurred to me that this is the problem. So I deleted this app, deleted my instagram app, restarted my phone and then re-downloaded instagram (but not this layout app) and now the problem is 100% gone. No more overheating, no more battery drains, no more crashing instagram. Im literally shocked that it took me years to figure this out. Disappointed because the app did what i needed it to, but in the process was disrupting my instagram app. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Non stop crashing *2024-05-08* I have been using Layout on and off since 2014….which makes me feel old now realizing that was ten years ago :’) anyways, this app used to be my go-to for making collages. It’s so clean and easy to use and allows you to make seamless collages in seconds. Only thing that hinders that though is the CONSTANT crashing. It’s rendered itself useless at this point. I literally cant even choose my photos before it goes back to the Home Screen. I get it’s an old app and hasn’t been updated in years, but you’d think since they would atleast fix the bugs that make it crash ? It’s obvious by the reviews hundreds of people still use this app (or atleast try to) so why not give it a quick fix? I always come back to this app to make my collages but then quickly get turned away when it crashes within 30 seconds of creating a collage and then I have to resort to another less appealing and hard to use app. I don’t usually complain about these things, let alone write reviews and my life will continue on whether this app is fixed or not, of course, I just think they’re throwing something really good away by not updating this app anymore. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t stay open *2024-04-16* I used to LOVE LOVE this app and used it all the time. For the last 2 years every time I try to create a collage it closes out before I am done. I reopen and have to start all over. I haven’t been able to complete a collage on this app in over 2 years. I keep it hoping the company will fix the problem as I loved this app so much when it was working. I want so bad for it to work again. Please fix! This app was my favorite and would use it everyday if it worked again. Would also rate 5/5 if you get it working again. Edit: have moved rating from 3/5 down to 1/5 bc Instagram refuses to do anything about the MULTIPLE complaints regarding this app. You had a huge following and you are just letting everyone down by not fixing this issue! ### 1/5 — Crashes within 30 seconds EVERY TIME *2022-08-22, version 1.2.6* This app used to be awesome and I used it all the time. Unfortunately over a year ago the app started crashing every time I tried to use it. Fast forward a year and I now have a new phone, my phone software is up to date and I just downloaded the most recent update of the app, hoping that the issue was fixed. The app crashed before I had the chance to even make my collage.. just like it used to. I tried using it three different times, and it crashed every time, so it’s obviously some sort of issue with the app itself. I’m so disappointed because this is a great app when you can actually use it. ### 1/5 — Such a shame *2021-09-28, version 1.2.6* I have loved and used this app since it came out. There’s no other app like it. Unfortunately as everyone else keeps saying, after iOS 15, this app no longer works. I can’t even get it to launch. I have tried reinstalling, restarting my phone, etc. It’s clear this app is no longer compatible with iOS, and unfortunately the fact that the last update was 3 years ago shows that Facebook/Instagram doesn’t care. User complaints have never meant anything to this company, because there are no viable alternatives to their platforms. They know that, complain though they might, users have no where else to go. And so we will continue to use Facebook and Instagram, handing over more and more of our personal data in exchange for less and less user-friendly features. Ah well. I’ll miss layout. We had a good run. ### 1/5 — Constant crashing (as EVERY recent review says) *2021-09-20, version 1.2.6* This app WAS great… it was my go-to for combining photos into collages or comparisons… until I updated my iPhone, and now it crashes after a few seconds (and also glitches such that you can’t scroll through certain folders without it scrolling backwards to the top again… and then it proceeds to crash very soon after that, of course, regardless of whether or not the scrolling glitch occurs). This is obviously a pretty ubiquitous issue for this app on iPhone now. It’s time for an update, developers!! Apparently an update for this app hasn’t been issued in 4+ years… well, it’s time to do it now! I’ll write a positive review instead if you could only get it back to working again how it was. It’s simply no longer compatible with iOS. Please give some much-needed attention to this old app you made… or direct users to a new one to replace it, with the same great collage editing options. ### 1/5 — It always glitches me out *2021-03-17, version 1.2.6* It always glitches me out to my home screen after I’ve backup up a page and want to remove a photo from my collage to then add a new one, or even change the collage’s shape itself. It ALWAYS does it when I back out on my first try to go back and choose a different option. Sometimes, it’ll take me light years to find the exact photos that I want to add, and then it just glitches, wipes that slate clean, and kicks me out... I swear, this app has brought me so much unnecessary anxiety, frustration, and stress😭 By the way, it’s done this ever since it came out. I’ve waited literally FOREVER for it to be fixed. My gosh, PLZ GET TO THIS. You’d think it’d be obvious after much time has passed🥺 ### 1/5 — Crashes incessantly *2021-01-03, version 1.2.6* It crashes within a window of roughly three to five seconds, and immediately at the slightest touch. It’s a kink I had thought Instagram would correct many years ago when they rolled out Layout but the frequency of crashes and sensitivity to said crashes has only increased since then. I am speaking as a user with the latest devices, across multiple devices, with significant amounts of hard & cloud memory; I always have the latest version of the app as an automatic download. This shouldn’t be happening. It’s consistently unreliable. Layout’s only consistency with regards to proper functioning is its popup request to “rate” Layout after each crash, which finally and ironically led me here. In short it’s unacceptable given the years of the excessive crashes and the scale of its impact. ### 1/5 — Get it together. *2020-07-29, version 1.2.6* Literally every single day and time I use this app it closes out on me. So much that I've screen recorded the absurdity in this, it's ridiculously beyond me so much to the point that I've had to stop what I was trying to do with the app after literally just being kicked out of it 4 times and having to reopen the app and hurry up and attempt to finish my project before having to start over for the 5th time. Bet you couldn't even imagine, yeah mhm. Get it together please and thanks otherwise it serves me absolutely no point in have this app on my phone. I could use this space for apps that actually work. I'm not interested in continuously wasting my time. Coming from a very patient person. ### 2/5 — An App Once Held Together by Duct Tape, Now It Can't Even Open *2023-06-19* This app has never worked. When I was using it 2018, it crashed any time I did anything. If I dragged images for too long, it crashed. If I added too many images, it crashed. Look at it funny, you know what happened: that thing crashed. The thing was made of paper held by duct tape and always will be. Now in 2023, it no longer opens. It just gets stuck on loading until it kicks me out. The app crashes while trying to open, just *wow*. I deleted and reinstalled Layout—same thing happens. Years ago I could excuse how frustratingly frail it was because I only had to use it occasionally and at least it was convenient to use for my Instagram Stories. It's downright useless now and I've had enough fighting with it. I'll stick to Photoshop and transfer images from my PC instead. ### 2/5 — irrelevant *2022-12-29, version 1.2.6* I just downloaded this today (Dec 2022)… I’m not sure how old it is, but Instagram no longer restricts you to the ‘Square’ aspect ratio when posting pictures. HOWEVER, when putting pictures on your story, you are indeed restricted to the portrait mode aspect ratio, meaning that square pictures, landscape mode pictures, or anything else will only fill part of your story and the rest will be ugly beige background (that could easily be filled with more landscape mode pictures one atop the other, if only there were a way!). I thought the Layout app would be for this exact purpose, but it only lets you create square layouts, no matter how many pictures you are combining in any configuration. Please use your noodle, Instagram developers, and innovate your product! It’s about time. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — then and now *2024-02-27* I use Layout for ‘before and after’ photos, or showing the seasons changing in the life of a tree. This is just for my personal photo albums, I don’t get involved much in social media posting. Since the photos I want to group are taken with usually months between shots, it’s really great to put them together in one photo. No flipping thru my camera roll to find the individual shots. The app is very easy to use, easy to adjust your pix to fit their option you like best. I like that the developers haven’t tried to make it more than what it is: an easy way to lay out your pix how you want them. I definately recomend. ### 5/5 — Helps memories *2023-04-13* This app is amazing I really recommend it because it reminds you of all the old times in the good times you can look back and have a whole collage of fun pictures. It’s the best app I could probably get I recommend this 110%. there’s no flaws to me it’s really easy to do you just tap the photos you want and tap the collage type you want they have a lot of cute options you go to your photos click at you click add to wallpaper then you get a design it however you want I recommend this. I used it all the time and was always amazed by how useful and well-designed it was. So around early 2022, when I upgraded my iOS, and Layout not only stopped working but was even crashing my iPhone, I couldn’t understand why Instagram/Meta had allowed this to happen. The now dead app remained that way through 2022 … until now, January 2023, that is. I just tapped on it again, and now it’s working beautifully, just as it did before 2022! So, I’m back to giving it a five-star rating. If anyone at Instagram is reading this: PLEASE don’t let Layout die again! It just keeps loading & then shuts down. I have deleted it several times including right now & reinstalled but the issue still persist on my iPhone 8. Even tho I’m having this issue I still have it a 5 star rating because I love this app so much & never had any issues with until couple months ago as of last year. It’s so easy to use & most of all free 100%. Please fix it or let me know what I should do like call up Apple idk. I love to continue using this amazing app. I tried reporting the issue by tapping the report issue link, but there’s no way I can report this specific issue on the site. Hope it gets fixed soon 🙏🏻 ### 5/5 — I really enjoy this!!! *2021-12-20, version 1.2.6* I really enjoy this app. It’s fun to make these layouts. The only thing that I would say is that sometimes when I choose a layout, then change a photo, my screen will go off and I have to restart. But still that just be my device 😉 I would totally recommend it, especially if you love to organize like I do. I do have one suggestion: you can only have 9 photos in a layout. Could you make it to maybe 12 or 15?
