This is my second personal favorite Layton game, next to Unwound Future. (Please do that one next, btw) I’ve sold every puzzle, finished every mini game, and even still have the original DS copy with me. The story in this game is beyond phenomenal, as expected from you guys. Especially the ending. The wholesome and heartwarming finish to an challenging yet rewarding game. In the future, I might even do a Layton cosplay because he made that much of an impact to me. It introduced me to the Professor Layton series, and this is a fantastic port. The story is great, the animation is awesome, and the controls work very well. Definitely a must buy for fans of the series or people who like puzzle driven stories. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 4/5 — This port is all but perfect except for one thing... *2020-07-31, version 1.0.2* This is a near perfect port of the original DS game! My only gripe is the “true” solution for one of the puzzles near the end isn’t the same as the original! It was such a cool way to solve the puzzle and provided one those “omg” moments that’s unforgettable. I won’t spoil it for those who have never played the original, but the current solution doesn’t even make sense and robs today’s players of one of the greatest moments of the Professor Layton series. ### 4/5 — Love it! *2019-11-13, version 1.0.2* I love the Layton series and this entry in particular. My only gripe is that I have an auditory disorder which causes my nose to bleed when I process noise at certain frequencies. Every sound in this remastered version is led in, unfortunately, with a very jarring sting that triggers my nosebleeds. So I can’t listen to the game! But it’s okay. Very good port and an amazing story. ### 5/5 — Great game as the second installment of series *2024-11-04, version 1.0.3* After I finished the first installment of the series, I rushed to play the start playing the second one. The diabolical box is as good as the curious village, with more puzzles (some are difficult like chess) and new mini games. The end of the story is still a little bit sad but very touching like its predecessor.
