I know that’s why these apps are made; to serve as many ad impressions as possible so that revenue is maximized. If the developers would just ad an option to pay a couple bucks to get rid of the ads like most apps have, this review would be a 4-5 star review. Paying $2-4 as an ad removal 1x charge is more than any app would get from ad revenue for the life of my playing. And even games I play for an hour before deleting, I usually jump to pay for it as a thank you / appreciation for the devs. I know that’s not everyone, but I’d much rather drop a couple bucks over dropping 20 minutes an hour to watch / skip / close ads. But this game takes ad serving to plague-like levels. 6-10 forced ads (which are skippable after 5-10 seconds) per level and 4-6 suggestions to watch additional voluntary full-play (30+ second) ads for buffs that are made to enhance gameplay (speed, fuel, etc). But the developers have a gross misunderstanding of what “infinite” means. They advertise “infinite fuel” - you think it sounds like a great deal, so you watch the 30 second ad and… 20 seconds of “infinite fuel.” Which is roughly 5 seconds longer than the current time I can run the blower for before refueling. So I spent 30 seconds watching an ad that gave me 5 seconds longer before I had to walk a few steps, get served ANOTHER ad, and refill. No. Just no. And the ad serving platforms used (which I admit doesn’t come at fault of the developer) either have very little QA or are inherently shady. Roughly 50% of the ads Vungle serves ignore / override the sound settings of my device. I keep it on silent 100% of the time. The game respects that. Other ads respect that. Most of my apps that aren’t fully intended for sound (ie - music apps, YouTube etc) respect that. Yet Vungle graciously blasts their ads at the last volume I had my phone on for sound I *wanted* to hear. And given the fact that I tend to play idle games during dull periods of time (like trying to fall asleep or killing time on a conference call) this is less than ideal. Then AdColony serves ads that are deliberately challenging to close. They put their skip/close button so close to / overlapping with a “learn more” button that pushes you to the download page. And then you have to tap the skip 2+ times to make it skip. So naturally you end up hitting the “learn more” button instead of closing the ad. And it’s happened on both my iPhone 12 Pro and my 14 ProMax, so it’s not a phone thing. Just overall disappointing for an otherwise great game.
