### 1/5 — Only has a single beginner course!

*2025-09-11*

I wanted so badly to like this but it only has a single course. It gets you started with playing open string notes; however, that's it. At first I thought I had hit a bug when I couldn't move on to learn about the next step (assuming first position?) but when I reached out to support they said it was brand new and they didn't have other lessons yet. I was told it would be around 3 weeks for the next one.

I understand that you need to start somewhere; however, waiting 3+ weeks between lessons is not something I'm willing to do for $100/year. I'm looking to make more rapid progress than that so I'd need to also do something else for lessons. If I understood this was not yet ready I would not have purchased this at all.

When you first log into the app they tempt you with a 1 time offer of $99/year if you sign up for the subscription immediately. So I didn't have a chance to see that there was extremely little content. This feels very misleading and I have requested a refund.

Be warned, at the time of writing this there is next to no lesson content and no guarantee of when more will be released over time.

**Developer response:** Hello,

with tonestro you have many ways to explore the app for free 🎶: the first lesson is always open, every week you can join the weekly challenge for free, and in the song library you’ll find a dedicated Free Songs category. On top of that, the 7-day free trial lets you try all premium features and the full content without restrictions 🚀 – so you can decide for yourself before purchasing a subscription.

It’s true that we also offer limited-time promotional deals that give you a special discounted price ✅. These don’t include the free trial but are very attractive in terms of value.

Our goal is to provide you with a high-quality and motivating learning platform 🌍 – with real-time interactive feedback, a structured learning course, thousands of songs from classical, pop & jazz, and weekly challenges. This way, you can master your instrument step by step and enjoy practicing 🎻🎺🎷.

### 2/5 — Opinion

*2025-11-09*

Needs more free music options and choices of where to begin, I’ve been playing cello for a little while now yet I still have to do the beginner stuff

**Developer response:** Hello,
thank you for your feedback 🎶😊!
The Cello section in tonestro was released only a few weeks ago. More courses and songs for intermediate and advanced players are already in development and will be added step by step. Our goal is to offer you a complete learning path, no matter what level you start from.

In the meantime, you can use the song library and exercises to continue improving your skills while the next learning levels are being released. Many users say they progress very well with this combination, even if they already have some experience.

If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to contact us anytime at support@tonestro.com. And maybe your rating will soon match ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🚀🎻.

### 3/5 — Only One Level

*2025-11-17*

As of 2025-10-11, here is still only one level available for instruction—and it only covers the open strings.

It is a helpful and interesting app with a lot of potential, but it doesn’t have enough instruction yet.

As of 2025-11-16, there is still only one level available.

I plan to update this review once I notice additional lessons available.

**Developer response:** Hi,
thanks for your feedback 🎶😊! Cello was released in tonestro only a few weeks ago, which is why there is currently just one introductory level. We want to assure you that more lessons and courses are already in development and will gradually become available in the app.

In the meantime, you can already enjoy many songs, exercises, and the real-time feedback feature to improve your playing. tonestro is continuously expanding, and with a little patience you’ll soon discover much more content for cello.

We’d love for you to keep using the app and update your review once the new lessons are released 🚀🎻.

### 4/5 — Amazing Cello App

*2026-03-17*

I absolutely love this app – it’s genuinely one of the best I’ve ever used. I had paused my cello playing for several years, but this app has completely reignited my love for it.

The biggest highlight for me is the music. It’s amazing to play real, recognisable pieces rather than the boring MIDI-style exercises that so many other apps use. The selection is fantastic too – a really great mix that keeps things interesting and motivating.

I also love how gamified the learning experience is. It makes practising fun and gives you that extra push to reach 100%. The feedback on note accuracy and timing is incredibly impressive as well – it even notices when a string is slightly out of tune, which shows how well-designed it is.

There are just a couple of small improvements I’d suggest. The text/notes can be quite small on iPhone, and I sometimes struggle to read them clearly. It would also be really helpful to have an automatic restart when you make a mistake, rather than needing to press buttons while holding the bow.

The only downside for me is that I’ve now completed all the lessons – including the entire Section 2 Advanced section – and feel like I’ve run out of content. I’d love to progress further, especially into higher positions beyond first position, and to learn more advanced techniques like vibrato.

Is there any plan to introduce an “Experienced” level, or is this currently in development?

I truly love this app and just don’t want to stop learning with it – thank you for creating something so enjoyable and inspiring.

### 4/5 — Two Levels Now Available

*2026-03-03*

Before, and for months, only a single course was available, Beginner/Level 1. As of March 2026, there is now a second level, Advanced/Level 2. Although there aren’t as many levels available as some other instruments, two levels is a vast improvement over just one. It’s also fun and easy to use.

**Developer response:** Hi,
