### 3/5 — Reading Chinese Words in Cantonese

*2021-06-11, version 5.0*

Not native Cantonese words. Good if you wish to say Chinese words in Cantonese.

### 2/5 — Not Native

*2018-01-11*

sometimes sentences are made by simply changed pronounceation from Chinese only. But Cantonese never use several basic words of Chinese.

### 2/5 — Meh

*2016-07-28, version 5.0*

They bait you with the promise of free knowledge. But you quickly realize that it's just an empty shell redirecting you to other ressources on other app.

### 4/5 — WordPowerLt Review

*2015-01-31*

Good.

### 4/5 — Not bad

*2015-01-11, version 4.1.1*

The app is very helpful and I especially enjoy its informative sections on Cantonese culture. The inclusion of pictures to certain phrases would be appreciated. 多謝 👈 I still need ALOT of practice though...

### 3/5 — Not bad

*2014-08-11, version 4.1.1*

Improved since my first review.

### 5/5 — very good

*2014-01-25*

Handy and useful!

To many repeat word-of-the-days. Subscribe and you will be bimbarded with email.

### 5/5 — Finally a great app for learning Cantonese

*2013-10-05, version 4.1.1*

Have been looking for a long time and very happy to use this one.

### 5/5 — o k

*2013-08-25, version 4.1.1*

ok

### 3/5 — Specifically for cantonese101

*2013-08-07, version 4.1.1*

I believe this app is made by the website Cantonese 101. Their lessons -- especially the dialogue podcasts are wonderful! I've learned so much! Their advertising, however, is abysmal. I probably receive at least 1 or 2 emails everyday practically begging for me to be more involved / make more purchases on their website. The wording actually really makes me feel uncomfortable -- subscribe and you'll see what I mean.

### 5/5 — The Best

*2013-08-03, version 4.1.1*

One of The best cantonese learning software.

### 4/5 — It's good to learn the vocab

*2013-07-29, version 4.1.1*

Easy to use. This is good to learn vocabulary, one word a day. Apparently, the example sentences to use the vocabulary uses very formal/old fashion Cantonese. I am told that you would not use it casually.

Either way, it is excellent with helping me with pronunciation with the audio available.

### 5/5 — HooLa

*2013-07-28, version 4.1.1*

It is fun and easy to use. Very helpful.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not real Cantonese

*2023-08-29, version 5.0*

This is Mandarin with the characters pronounced in a Cantonese way. It’s not real Cantonese. Disappointing

### 1/5 — Not real Cantonese

*2017-06-01, version 5.0*

The vocabulary in this app are not spoken Cantonese, they are written Cantonese. If you want to learn how to SPEAK Cantonese, the vocabulary in this app will only confuse you and make you sound funny. The developers obviously just took their Mandarin app and inserted the Cantonese pronunciations. If you are a true language learner, stay away from this app.

### 1/5 — Not Cantonese

*2015-10-07, version 4.7*

Not Cantonese vocabulary, just Standard Chinese words (Mandarin) with Cantonese readings.

係官語、唔係廣東話。

### 1/5 — Ummmmm..........

*2015-09-20, version 4.7*

Every time I open this app, it immediately shuts down. I don't know why but this needs to be improved. Please fix this!!!

### 1/5 — Wasters

*2015-08-23, version 4.6*

Enraged about having my time wasted. I opened it and started on the 100 free words. Immediately I see the word for delicious is something you'd never ever say. Other stuff is wrong too. Why would a BEGINNER want to learn to read book Chinese (basically mandarin) before learning basic communications words? I sent screenshot to my Canadian friend who speaks natively and he agreed.

### 1/5 — pure garbage

*2014-05-04, version 4.1.1*

I am getting two people talking, not a picture not a written word. Maybe this is their idea of how to sell me something. Give me nothing. I have better chinese on my walkman.

In this day and age? total garbage do not waste your time.

### 1/5 — Not real cantonese

*2013-07-25, version 4.1.1*

My wife is cantonese and doesn't recognize most of the words the app is trying to say. It is useless to learn a language if a native speaker will never understand u due to incorrect teaching.

### 1/5 — Only supports jyutping

*2013-07-13, version 4.1.1*

Surprisingly does not use Yale the popular romanization for Canto, thus will be far too confusing for many users.

### 1/5 — Waste of time

*2013-06-14, version 4.1.1*

My girlfriend is Cantonese and I'm living in Hong Kong now, when I let her hear it she told me its a waste of time as nobody even speaks like that here. And she's right! What I have noticed also is some is mandarin and not even Cantonese. Wasted my time trying to download this.

### 1/5 — Audio was artificial, probably generated by computer

*2013-04-30, version 4.0.3*

My gf is a native speaker, she found out lots of wrong way of saying from this apps mainly due to its direct translation from written Chinese to conversation. This is ridiculous. If someone follow this to learn cantonese, that may cause a big problem.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — App

*2020-04-27, version 5.0*

The app is outstanding, I have learnt quite a bit. In the future, could you make an app that can teach you Chinese Mandarin, that would be great!

### 5/5 — Love ti

*2018-02-10, version 5.0*

Good approach to learning Cantonese from scratch

### 5/5 — Good

*2017-09-01, version 5.0*

Good

### 5/5 — Great app

*2016-08-18, version 5.0*

Great

### 5/5 — Definitely worth it!

*2016-01-17, version 4.8*

Great product. Gives you the opportunity to learn a large amount of vocabulary and even shows you sentences in which the word of the day is applied.

### 5/5 — Useful, but a bit sloppy.

*2015-07-29, version 4.6*

I am trying, at age 70, to learn Cantonese. This app provides me a usable flash card system which is not easy to find. It is not perfect, but still invaluable!

### 5/5 — its great

*2014-09-03, version 4.1.1*

Even though I am learning mandarin I want Cantonese to be my next language after mandarin so this is a great app to learn a few words from.

### 5/5 — Nice job

*2014-05-19, version 4.1.1*

This is a great app. Love that you can record and play back. Really is helping in pronouncing the phrases correctly.
Also my wife is from Hong Kong and she confirmed this is cantonese. Kind of a relief because I bought it and then looked at this review section.

### 5/5 — Wonderful app!!!!

*2014-04-02, version 4.1.1*

Worth the money!!! In this day and age, there's no excuse not to learn anything you want (internet, smartphones, and other technology). Thanks to this app, I can effectively learn Cantonese wherever and whenever I want. Thank you!!!!

### 5/5 — good

*2014-03-25, version 4.1.1*

very useful
