### 3/5 — Improved, but not there yet

*2026-08-15, version 3.13.0*

I was away from this for a year, and some things have improved during that time, but there really needs to be an option to export the games played here to another program/chess site so I can do a detailed review like Gotham chess, chess, com, lichess or something else.

There also needs to be an option to limit or remove the feedback from Dr. Wolf during a game. One of the phrases I really can’t stand, is “Things are looking very good for me, indeed”. Don’t goat over the victory to the student. Rather guide the student away from making the error(s) that got them to that point. The training exercises don’t do this. The analysis from the above apps do, and do it very very well. If only I could export the games played here. I thought the old version supported this.

### 4/5 — It’s a lot of fun but but it makes mistakes although it’s been 4 years and I just got one

*2026-08-11, version 3.13.0*

Ehh

### 4/5 — Good but not the best.

*2026-08-03, version 3.13.0*

I tried to do the 4 knights Italian opening and no matter how much you rewind and play the same move he never changes his move. He makes it impossible to do that opening.

### 4/5 — Great app for new players or to improve your game

*2026-08-02, version 3.13.0*

This is a great way to learn the basics of chess and pickup some techniques. For the most part the lessons follow a logical development, but they can get off into the weeds from time to time with too many variations to keep up with in a short lesson. But chess isn't a simple game. One thing missing is more puzzles independent of the lessons. But by the time you are ready for those you will probably already be onto Lichess or Chess.com.

### 5/5 — Great !!

*2026-07-22, version 3.13.0*

I found the app on the App Store used my free trail and kept it! If you really want to take it seriously and learn from the beginning chose Dr.wolf

### 3/5 — How bad is Dr. Wolf (Actually, a little more than kind of bad)

*2026-07-13, version 3.13.0*

I want to complete the task, win with none of the pawns taken. And he keeps taking them, so I have to restart the game almost every every every single time. (And it’s about more than 10 times) (And it’s soooooooooo annoying)

### 5/5 — Actually works and fun, too

*2026-07-08, version 3.13.0*

play for free. No ads.
Never won a game of chess in my life until Doc showed me what better moves looked like. Now when I play, I improve.
Can practically feel the new neural pathways opening up.

### 5/5 — Fantastic! 💕🌷

*2026-07-07, version 3.13.0*

This app is great if you want to practice chess or learn and I have improved my skills a lot with it. I love how you can choose a level and review your match to see the mistakes you’ve made. I highly recommend this app! 💕🌷🎀

*2026-06-28, version 3.13.0*

### 5/5 — Great app to learn how to play chess for free. NO ADS!

*2026-06-26, version 3.13.0*

You can play from beginner to expert. They show you how each piece moves.

### 5/5 — amazing！

*2026-06-25, version 3.13.0*

The coaching is absolutely fantastic and the voice is cool too! The way it teaches you how to move the pieces is easy to understand and follow, the challengers’ give cool, simple facts, I LOVE THIS! ( if I could, I would give this a 10 star!)

### 3/5 — Spectacular

*2026-06-19, version 3.13.0*

I would like to see more rationales for suggested moves and be able to progress a move or two after training to see the outcome.

### 5/5 — Superbly Made

*2026-06-08, version 3.11.0*

Thank you for this app. It’s improving my game immensely.

### 3/5 — Good but..

*2026-05-30, version 3.11.0*

Great app when you’re first starting out, but the beginner level becomes much harder as you progress. The difficulty ramps up too quickly and eventually feels unplayable for newer players. I enjoyed it at first, but the progression needs to be smoother

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Too expensive

*2026-08-28, version 3.14.0*

It should be $5 a year or a one time buy forever

### 1/5 — Français nul

*2026-08-23, version 3.14.0*

### 1/5 — Why no good must fix it now

*2026-07-26, version 3.13.0*

He is to hard and keeps talking when I try to focus then he makes me sad then he never moves when it is a draw I press un do and he keeps doing that move so I get more and more draws then he dose not let me win when I am at cheackmate

### 1/5 — What’s wrong with animation

*2026-07-19, version 3.13.0*

Animation of moves has become annoyingly slow after update and no option to revert it back in the settings

### 1/5 — Came to learn

*2026-07-02, version 3.13.0*

This program teaches nothing. Just a waste of time and energy. If there was a proper follow thru with moves as you are playing, that were wrong or blunders, not after the fact, it might’ve been ok.

### 1/5 — Learning adaptive AI

*2026-05-14, version 3.11.0*

So I've been playing on this app for over a year I believe. I have it set to a certain level. The game is adjusting far beyond the level almost like it's learning and adapting using AI. I'll get into positions where I'm dominating, and it'll pull some grand master moves to rip the game away. It's making it not fun. If I improve but the game adjusts to my level of play making extremely advanced moves passed the difficulty level I've set, then I'm not learning anything. I can't use strategy and techniques at my level, just for it to pull a Bobby Fisher in two moves. Now this isn't the run of the mill "i'm just not that good". If you want it to be advanced, make that the advanced level. If the gsme is actively use AI to adapt to my level of play without me increasing the difficulty than it's pointless. You can see one played thousands of games. Nearly daily. It's really discouraging when I play a perfect game, leave no holes that a normal person at my level would recognize, just for the game to think 12 moves ahead and run diagnostics to go through 18,000 scenarios to find the one move that works. It's kinda dumb. I've been playing my entire life. As you can see I've won 800 plus games and lost over 2000. I don't mind losing. It's part of learning. But at a point it's getting unrealistically difficult and as I stated going from intermediate to grand master level when I start to win a few times in a row.

### 1/5 — Don’t like it

*2026-04-29, version 3.11.0*

Don’t enjoy the app

### 1/5 — Dr. Wolf

*2026-04-23, version 3.11.0*

He cheats by not given the player the correct score! I would like to play with a correct record! That would be fair! Right?

### 1/5 — Condescending prick

*2026-04-23, version 3.11.0*

Doesn’t teach you just makes fun of you.

### 1/5 — Previous game

*2026-04-09, version 3.11.0*

As a matter of observation; anytime your platform can beat me even though the game. Designates “strong intermediate” programming!!!
Also your most recent game exceeded “Strong Intermediate “.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Review

*2026-08-30, version 3.14.0*

Very good chess tutor!

### 5/5 — Five stars for sure

*2026-08-24, version 3.14.0*

I wish the developers would drop some code in to allow us ‘beginners’ to leave ourselves notes. Other than that, it’s spot on.

### 5/5 — Mix

*2026-08-22, version 3.14.0*

Es maravilloso

### 5/5 — Great for beginners

*2026-08-14, version 3.13.0*

I had no idea how to play chess, but my friends wanted me to learn. I saw this and downloaded it and I literally caught on so quick. The way it teaches you and allows you to learn is amazing. Plus the coach is very friendly which makes you feel good about the stuff you do in the game. I also like how it allows you to undo things and it specifies that it’s here to teach you, not punish you. Kudos to whoever made the app. You guys did an awesome job

### 5/5 — First Rate AI engaging and intuitive , training is top shelf

*2026-08-09, version 3.13.0*

I gotta say the AI or the scripting for Dr. Wolf's persona is first rate , it's really engaging and not repetitive. It drills down on your moves as if it's thinking with you and that's hard to create. It responds uniquely to every kind of scenario I've seen so far.

This is my first five star review for any app!

### 5/5 — Why you should get dr wolf

*2026-08-08, version 3.13.0*

I love this game! When I began, I was very inexperienced at chess, but I

### 5/5 — AMAZING

*2026-08-08, version 3.13.0*

I’m a very beginner in chess. Always wanted to learn. This app is absolutely perfect and amazing to learn from. It is the best app out there. It gives lessons step by step and repeat if needed. Also hits for the next move if needed. I am learning the fundamentals, basic and move and advance moves too. I would highly recommend ! No commercials either on this game to interrupt. The best app so far !

### 5/5 — More things to learn

*2026-08-07, version 3.13.0*

I’ve been learning from this app for awhile and i really like it i was hoping you guys would add the kings indian defense as a lesson

### 5/5 — Chess

*2026-07-31, version 3.13.0*

Excellent tutorials and great tips.

### 5/5 — The best way to learn chess fundamentals

*2026-07-25, version 3.13.0*

It’s always my go to recommendation for anyone wanting to learn. Also, it’s just a pleasant way to learn chess
