However the pronunciation is not standard hunyu (Chinese). Example; in the United States they speak American, but a Texan sounds different to a Californian. Wrong tones of characters. ### 1/5 — Poor quality *2012-07-17, version 2.9* Only looked at the app for a few seconds, but already seen far too much wrong with it for me to consider using it with my students. There are mistakes with the tones on many words, the pronunciation is also sometimes incorrect and at any rate the sound is poor quality. There are words in strange categories ("it" in the people category for example), and the information on each card is very limited. Needs significant improvement. ### 1/5 — I want to love this, but... *2012-05-17, version 2.7* I have all of the free BravoLang Chinese apps and purchased the main "Learn Chinese" title. The problem with this Flashcard title is that some of the pronunications are poor, not in terms of audio quality but in terms of tone. I live in China and have a Chinese girlfriend. I noticed a couple of pronunciations seemed wrong so I played them to her. She confirmed that in several cases the speaker uses the wrong tone, pure and simple. For a tonal language, this is absolutely critical. In conversation , this may be ok because context helps the meaning and also because tones change sometimes depending on other words in the full sentence. But as stand-alone words, the tone must be exact otherwise it will not be understood. But without someone's guidance, this App leaves you confused as to whether the written tone or the spoken tone is the correct one. Not good when learning a tonal language. I'll check out the other titles, particularly the one I've purchased in the hope they are better, Real shame, because most of the pronunciations are clear and match the written tone and the other aspects of the App are great. ### 1/5 — poorly organised *2012-03-07, version 2.4* you have to scroll through limited choices, impractical and poorly designed ### 2/5 — Audio issues *2016-05-29, version 4.1* Audio does not seem to work on iOS 9.3.2 but flash cards work. ### 3/5 — Could be better *2017-02-28, version 4.1* This is an okay app. One flaw though is I take Chinese and some words are not how you pronounce them. I would suggest because there are many types of Chinese , to name the type of Chinese that you are teaching.
