### 2/5 — Please Update!!

*2013-08-12, version 3.2.2*

I've been using wordpower for over a year and out of the five languages I have, this is the only one in the old format. I understand that Dutch may not be their highest priority but the audio sample sentences are what makes the other apps so great and I hope they update it soon.

### 3/5 — Odd words

*2012-10-02, version 3.2.2*

It does what it says: a new Dutch word every day. Some of the words are oddly chosen! They have included words like iPhone and Washington D.C. Some of the definitions are a bit suspect: my Dutch partner often disagrees with the translation or uses.

### 3/5 — Just meh.

*2011-08-16, version 3.1.1*

Some words and phrases relevant and interesting. The update didn't fix the audio problem.

### 2/5 — Free version to limited

*2011-05-03, version 2.4*

Free version limited to one word per day. The word is lost if you don t open the application each day.

### 3/5 — Ok for a free-bie

*2011-04-24, version 2.4*

Not a Dutch person speaking which is ridiculous, but I think this app is ok for people like me who have the basics and are not in a rush to learn quickly. Quite like the idea of just one word a day- but maybe I'm just lazy!

### 3/5 — Decent

*2011-04-16, version 2.4*

Good for a free language app in terms of vocabulary

### 2/5 — Trial version gave limited opportunity to quickly explore very promising program.

*2011-04-04, version 2.4*

Other than functional limitations, good pronunciation.

### 2/5 — Ok

*2011-03-18, version 2.4*

Not very true to accent

### 2/5 — could be improved

*2011-03-12, version 2.4*

I am very serious about learning Dutch so I downloaded every possible app including this one. I enjoy seeing a new word everyday and it is really nice that you can hear the word. However, a bear word is not enough to speak proper Dutch. Nouns have to come with their definite article and verbs - with their three forms, not just the infinitive but also the past and past participle. It would be also nice if we could organize and practice the words in different groups/folders.

### 2/5 — Better words

*2011-03-06, version 2.4*

I think this app is ok. Could do with a few changes, 1 being that the words given each day should be moro everyday words like numbers or shopping items. Im sure there is a better app for this but it wad free anyway so you can't really moan bout it!

### 3/5 — Fun app

*2011-03-04, version 2.4*

Neat little app that is good for picking up new words. Sometimes you don't get a new word each day (gets "stuck" on the same word for, at times, several days). Flash cards are good. Sound can be off - very very quiet at times. Has been crashing on startup now since the latest OS update...Overall, enjoyed!

### 3/5 — L'application ne peut plus ouvrir sur mon iPod

*2011-01-19, version 2.3.3*

Depuis que j'ai installée les mises a jour, je ne peux plus ouvrir l'application sur mon iPod. J'aimais beaucoup le concept d'un nouveau mot par jour alors j'espère que les prochaines mises a jour de l'application pourrons régler ce problème...

### 3/5 — App is basic but works well in what it says

*2010-11-30, version 0*

The app (so far) has delivered one word a day every day but there should be more than one word offered per day and a Far more expanded dictionary of words. For example, six words a day/related-- six fruits or six animals etc. Adding a game to word learning would also help retention.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Rubbish last two updates a catastrophe

*2015-04-27, version 4.5*

Have used this app since 2 1/2 years first on iPod touch which no longer receives updates and 2 years on iPad.
Full of mistakes and too America centric. If I'm learning Dutch I want to hear Dutch voices even when speaking English. I want to see and hear things relevant to Dutch culture.
There are many stupid errors in spelling, words spoken different from word printed plus numerous other ridiculous or lazy mistakes.
I updated last week, first in a long time. All it does is crash. Deleted it and reloaded older version from my back up. Now another update. Was sceptical so avoided it. But I'm no longer getting notifications for new word. So I just tried the new update. Same crap. So now I'm done. Pity!

### 1/5 — Bla I got nothing

*2013-04-04, version 3.2.2*

Poo

### 1/5 — Pointless. Don't download.

*2012-10-17, version 3.2.2*

Really pointless to download in its free version: the words they give you (only one per day IF you open it each day) are easy to guess words and fairly useless. The pay version is too expensive and there are free or cheaper different apps which seem better.

Disappointing. Don't do it.

### 1/5 — Didn't work

*2012-10-16, version 3.2.2*

Downloaded this to my iPad and it didn't work. It displayed one word: "999" (not exactly the most useful beginner word). I had no other options to click on. It had forward and back arrows, presumably to go to the next word, but those didn't work. The functionality to record your own voice was also broken. Clicking on settings displayed nothing. If you want to waste 15 minutes downloading this app to learn how to say "999" in Dutch, go for it. If you plan to learn anything else, avoid this app.

### 1/5 — This app was not thought out very well.

*2012-09-18, version 3.2.2*

I have this exact same app for Spanish and find that useful, but this Dutch version is terrible. There are a handful of Dutch words that are the same as their English counterparts and for some reason these seem to be the only words that come up. It will often have something stupid like "English: airport... Dutch: airport". Well gee, thanks. That was really useful. /sarcasm - Needs to be setup so that only words that are different come up. I'm not learning anything by constantly showing me words that are the exact same in English.

### 1/5 — Waste Of Time

*2011-05-28, version 3.0*

My intention was to collect my "one word a day" until I had lots of words and enough time to study them this Summer. After a month of diligently downloading one word at a time, the program updated and deleted my entire word bank.

If you really want to build your vocabulary, don't waste your time or money investing in this product.

### 1/5 — Terrible voice cast

*2011-04-23, version 2.4*

This app has a foreign person speak Dutch presumably an American
But I cant really tell. Instead of learning proper Dutch you learn how to speak broken Dutch taught to you by a non Dutch person. Also the word choice is limited. Do not buy the full version under any condition!

### 1/5 — Didn't work

*2011-01-25, version 2.3.3*

This app doesn't work. When u try to open it, the screen goes black then exits out of the app

### 1/5 — One word

*2010-09-28, version 0*

All it had was 'to rent'

### 1/5 — Even for free, you should skip this one

*2009-08-02, version 0*

This is a promo for their other more costly version and should be free. Nonetheless, they charge $1. The design of the application is mediocre but tolerable. However, the choice of words is pathetic. Dutch you will not learn from using it. Don't bother. Save the dollar and look elsewhere.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — App

*2020-12-31, version 5.0*

Good app.
Excellent for repetition, recall and memorization

### 4/5 — Good Refresher

*2017-06-17, version 5.0*

I've used as a refresher and to build vocabulary as having lived in the Netherlands several years (worked in an English environment) this is a great way to supplement and refresh. I've used the Czech program with good success to complement other learning tools with great success as here I get reading as well. I enjoy the application.

### 4/5 — Good but a few bugs and flaws

*2016-06-26, version 5.0*

My husband is from the Netherlands and as I have been using this app to learn Dutch he has been helping me and has pointed out a few translations that were off. He has corrected them for me so I learn the correct translations but someone who might be using this on their own without a Dutch husband to explain incorrect translations will be learning a few wrong things. Overall the app is great, I love the design, the ease of use and simplicity, plus lots to learn. Another thing I've noticed is the audio translation doesn't always work. One out of five times it works, otherwise I don't know what the trick is bc my phone settings are always the same so it has to be something that occasionally messes up within the app itself, not a huge deal but learning how to say the words correctly is a pretty important part and without a Dutch person helping you, you could be learning the wrong pronunciations and as my husband has stressed, pronunciation when learning Dutch is very important. This is honestly the best teaching app for Dutch that I've downloaded so far. I'm hoping that the things that are buggy will be fixed and maybe even the off translations fixed, then this app would be amazing!

### 4/5 — Word Power Dutch

*2011-04-16*

It is great having a daily prompt to build my Dutch vocabulary - and to practice my pronunciation.

### 4/5 — It' alright

*2011-04-13, version 2.4*

It's a FREE app. What do you expect. I like it. It tells mr the word I record myself saying it, using the app, and I compare the results. It's amazing. You think that you're pronouncing it correctly but it's only when you hear yourself back that you realise you've got it slightly wrong, which could be the difference between being understood and not being understood.

I acknowledge the other comments. The developer needs to look at more words and constructing sentences.

### 4/5 — Learning made easy.

*2011-03-10, version 2.4*

Good for a busy person. Easy to learn. Great for kids if they want to learn something different.

### 4/5 — Good Free App

*2010-12-29, version 2.3.1*

This app does exactly what it promises. The new word every day includes slang and short phrases. The flashcards help you review after you accumulate a good number.

### 4/5 — Dutch word power

*2010-12-16, version 2.3.1*

Good app for learning new words.

### 4/5 — Good little app

*2010-10-24, version 0*

Does what it says: gives a new Dutch word per day with English translation and pronunciation.

### 4/5 — Get it for the audio

*2010-09-13, version 0*

This app does what it says - delivers a word everyday. However, the words can seem rather abstract and sometimes the audio just seems off.

Because it is one of the few apps that offers audio it's a keeper.
