The best is to obviously work on a language daily where it is used. Not being around Finns who are using the language means reaching out to apps and chat and it works. The app is a tool and the work is keeping up with study in the way you learn best. I am Finnish but was discouraged from learning the language as a child. Cold War era. The app and other online tools are helping restore what was lost. The pronunciation audio and sample sentences are particularly useful for learning the language. If you want to seriously learn Finnish, this will most likely be a big help to you. "Pori" and "Rovaniemi" are not translations they are place (at either end of country!). The word choice is also bizarrely random ... If this was going to be useful as an app then it should be grouped into useful batches such as colour, transport, people etc ### 1/5 — Useless *2011-07-21* I realize this is a free app, and i was OK with the allotment of one vocabulary word a day--Finnish is a difficult language to learn and there is no rush for me to become fluent. I deleted the app on the second day of use when the second vocabulary word i was supposed to learn was "Ho Chi Minh City" (Ho Chi Minh kaupunki in Finnish). Ho Chi Minh City? Really? I'm sure that word is incredibly useful while traveling in Finland. What use is that? What makes this more ridiculous is that, unless I'm missing something, it doesn't show you the meaning of the word, just how to pronounce it! Seriously! So, when I'm next on hols in Finland, I'll use one of the random words I've learned to pronounce and just pray that I don't get a beating for saying something offensive without knowing. In a word.. However, vocabulary is nothing without grammar. And finnish grammar is definately very difficult. Add some grammar and it'll be a five stars app. By the way, play audio option has been disabled recently.
