### 2/5 — Not for beginners

*2026-04-08, version 13.11.4*

It’s not for beginners and I have no idea how to unsubscribe or delete my account. I’m sure it would be great for someone who needs to take the next step in their French.

### 4/5 — For the Price, It’s Okay

*2025-08-29, version 13.11.1*

I have been using it for a few months. The lessons are well structured and interesting. The AI robot you chat with is sort of boring to talk to, but it’s nice to get to construct sentences and receive immediate corrections. I do experience glitches regularly, where content won’t load or loads slowly, or other weird behavior, which is really frustrating considering how expensive it is.

### 4/5 — Unsubscribing because I’m not getting a lesson every day

*2025-08-17, version 13.9.12*

I love the content and would gladly keep the subscription if I get 7 lessons for 7 days, instead of 5. Come one, I'm paying $14.99 per month for this

### 4/5 — 楽しい

*2025-02-22*

英語の解説もわからないと終わりかも

フランス語は活用や性別が難しいので、
スペル、綴りの法則など全てわからないと思いながら学習するのは辛い
日本語の入門手前オリエンテーションくらいの読み物を読んだらだいぶ頭が片付いて良かった
全くの知識なしで始めても面白いから安心

**Developer response:**

### 3/5 — Hard to understand

*2024-09-30, version 13.9.7*

Maybe I’m too stupid but I have no idea what was going on

### 3/5 — Gut gemacht

*2024-09-03*

### 4/5 — Вопрос

*2024-08-19*

С покупкой подписки становится доступным произвольное количество уроков в день?

### 2/5 — Average expectations, marred by the oversmart support woman in their team.

*2024-05-24*

The app is average, some exercises were cartoonish and a bit jarring at times. I already have experience with Paul Noble, Pimsleur and Michel Thomas and plenty of French courses and books. Rosetta and Duolingo are just fine, they dont make you fluent though. I could have explored Frantastique beyond the one month paid service.

I started the course a few days in, I logged in and found that access was not granted, puzzled, I contacted support as my App store account was clearly mentioning as payment successful and one month valid. The woman on their support team asked me to send her a proof that I have a valid subscription, something which should have been totally verified on their end and just shows their incompetence at first blush. The next emails her tone was about “making me do something” apparently trying to appear coercive and patronising. Fun fact, many paid subscribers simply dont use the services wrt such apps. But her behavior earned this not too alluring app my dismissal and an honest response albeit negative in tone.

### 2/5 — Gut, aber nicht so gut wie Unterricht

*2023-08-05*

### 5/5 — Great App and Service

*2023-05-23, version 12.7.1*

I used Frantastique for several years, progressing through all the levels until I ran out of content. There is no question that the quality of the materials is excellent and engaging. I learned so much from using this application/service. I used Frantastique as part of an overall set of learning materials to advance my knowledge of French because nothing beats in-class instruction. Nonetheless, Frantastique can help accelerate your journey in French — and in a very engaging way.

After I finished Frantastique, I ended up getting a bachelors degree in French and have lived in France since 2021. On a daily basis, I make use of all those little tidbits on culture and expressions that I learned through Frantastique.

One small challenge with Frantastique and Gymglish’s other products is that they are not for pure beginners. You do need to have some basic French knowledge to get started. At present, I am working my way very slowly through Saga Baladoria (their Italian course) and am really struggling because I don’t have enough foundational Italien. In any event, the 7-day trial will give you a chance to assess where you are with French so you can make your own judgement.

If you can combine Frantastique + in-person instruction + French reference materials, then the overall approach can be successful.

### 5/5 — O melhor

*2023-05-22*

Melhor curso de francês. Divertido, equilibrado, com um pouco de cada coisa: gramática, leitura, listening, cultura francesa...

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — 语言水平不准 导致课程匹配不佳

*2026-07-17*

订阅了一个月，但免费评估部份不准导致近期提供给我的课程对我来说太简单了，没有学习的意义。后续补充：无法坚持，难度脱节导致学不到新的东西，很想退费。

### 1/5 — Why the subscription is not premium

*2026-01-28, version 13.11.4*

Paying for 12 months only to find out you get 1 chapter a day. Why?

### 1/5 — No way to understand how to use words

*2025-09-03, version 13.11.1*

No explanation ,no meaning of words not even translation, luckily I didn’t pay the whole year, it would have been a waste

### 1/5 — I am still not getting a lesson every day

*2025-05-28, version 13.9.12*

I have every day checked off to receive a lesson. They still don’t show up on weekends. I feel like I am not getting what I am paying for; I want to do a lesson every day to be consistent. I’ve emailed support several times about this to no reply.

EDIT: Customer Support replied to my email and told me I only get FIVE lessons per week! It’s not clear from any of the promotional materials or the in-app information about subscription that you only get five short lessons a week. You can’t get more than 15mins a day, five days a week, which is a little more than an HOUR a week of French instruction, in the most expensive language learning app. The app is good but this is way overpriced relative to other excellent French educational materials.

### 1/5 — AWFUK CUSTOMER SERVICE

*2024-12-10, version 13.9.12*

I tried cancelling my subscription for ages and no one responded to me or tried to help me. They kept on offering me alternatives when all I wanted was my subscription to be cancelled and everytime I emailed them, no one would respond for multiple, MULTIPLE days and it would always be a different person so the conversation would be the same every time and nothing was done. They are so happy to take your money but when you want it back they are unwilling and their tactics are to repeatedly stall to actively prevent you from receiving what you want. 0/10 would not recommend. I’m still paying for my subscription because they refuse to give me a refund. When will the cycle end?

### 1/5 — ⚠️READ BEFORE DOWNLOADING⚠️

*2024-07-04, version 13.9.7*

I only wrote 5 stars so people could see this DO NOt I repeat do not get this app the app seems promising but when you get in, it does not let you do any lessons unless you pay if you do a free trail the lessons are horrible very bad app do not recommend try Duolingo

### 1/5 — Took all my money - useless app

*2024-05-02, version 13.9.1*

This app is a scam. They are charging me 25$ every month and outright refuse to cancel my subscription. The app itself is so dumb and useless I can't even describe. For starters, as if this app was made in the 90s, you manually have to mark "I don't know"/"I don't remember" unlike much more powerful and effective apps like Duolingo. The interface is just a giant HTML form. There is no feedback on your learning or vocabulary. They just send you lessons and unlike advertised there is no science that will help you learn the language. Such a horrible and disappointing experience.

### 1/5 — Subscription

*2024-04-11*

They automatically renew my subscription for a full year without my consent and they don’t let me cancel it, so they have been charging me ever since…. Worst service.

### 1/5 — Nah

*2024-02-28*

Nah

### 1/5 — I used to like this app not anymore

*2023-04-07, version 12.7.0*

I used to really like this app! A little repetitive but different! I already had some French knowledge before downloading. I find that for absolute beginners may be a little hard. But it’s a cute app. I also find that it’s not an app where if you only use this you will become fluent. Not at all tbh it’s good to have on the side. Before I used to pay $15 and it was like 4 lessons a week I think. Now to get 5 it’s $80. And for two lessons a week its $12 for some lessons that are good but not wow. Might as well pay that for bussu and babble which are much better even Duolingo. I’m not sure what happened here but it’s way too expensive now. You can get a certification on bussu and learn modern words and practice and review better. I’m super disappointed because I enjoyed this app

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — The best, despite odd ui

*2026-08-31, version 13.15.0*

So much fun. It starts off with a short about aliens defrosting ancient French celebs and continues that story checking in on grammar and vocab. The French is simple, clear, but actually interesting to listen to.

The app itself est un peu bizarre — i think it’s a port of an old web app. I wasn’t sure if i was using it correctly at first, but it’s very worth it.

Also, the Victor Hugo chatbot, while not closely integrated is very good for it’s purpose - and the clickable buvable by buvable corrections are great. I wish Duolingo llm chats were half as good. (I recommend setting your language/keyboard to French and using it’s audio transcription — easy and you can see the transcription and édit it there that way)

### 5/5 — Amazing app, amazing service.

*2026-04-05, version 13.11.4*

Frantastique offers amazing lessons, but their attitude is what shines. They updated the country designation to "Taiwan" after I reached out. I feel truly valued as a user. I sincerely recommend this app to anyone who wants to improve their French. It is the only choice! ❤️

課程非常出色，且團隊極度尊重使用者。經過反應後，他們迅速將國籍設定中的台灣省改為「台灣」，讓我感到備受重視。這是學習法文的不二選擇！❤️

### 5/5 — Best app ever!

*2026-01-21, version 13.11.4*

It helps you with grammars vocabulary, listening, and writing. It teaches through stories which makes it more entertaining and gives examples of the daily life language use. It also helps you with the subjects you wanna learn more or just review! The best app to learn French!

### 5/5 — Love it!!

*2025-02-18, version 13.9.12*

I’m currently studying French in college and this app isn’t just helpful but enjoyable, the difference between this app and all of the other language apps is that this one is teaching you new words while keeping you up with the grammar, it’s lessons aren’t more than 5 minutes long and the 30 second videos are fun to watch. Loveeee ittt!!!

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2024-12-01, version 13.9.12*

This app is actually amazing of my gosh. I'm a highschool student in French immersion and this really helps me better my vocabulary and improve my conversation skills. I like how it tells me my correction whenever I have a conversation with the people and how interactive it is overall. Way better than any of the apps I've used so far.

### 5/5 — Delightful

*2023-10-11, version 12.10.0*

This is such a lovely and delightful way to learn French. It’s funny and interspersed with interesting uses of the language - keeping me very engaged. Bravo!

### 5/5 — Formidable!

*2023-09-22, version 12.10.0*

I look forward to each lesson because each one is clever, very funny, and based on sound language learning research. I appreciate the creators’ hard work!
Merci mille fois!
Rebecca

### 5/5 — Great overall, just a couple of thoughts

*2023-08-27, version 12.10.0*

So far I’m really enjoying the free trial for this app, and am highly considering a subscription.

However, I have noticed that a few of statements regarding casual expressions and slang don’t always take into account Québécois French.
E.g. the app specifically pointed out that no one would ever say « bon matin » to say « good morning », and that this expression does not exist… But « bon matin » is commonly used in Québec, so it might be nice to include that instead of saying it does not exist anywhere. I also get though that including all of these differences would be a huge task.

### 5/5 — It has it all

*2023-07-22, version 12.9.0*

The structure of lessons is original, they are not too long and you want to keep coming for me. They have a really funny selection of videos. The revision is very useful too!

### 5/5 — O melhor antre vários que utilizei! Inclusive na versão gratuita!

*2023-06-03*

O aplicativo abordado ensino com muito humor e máxima qualidade!

Lê application est très chic et drôle! Là version gratuite est riche de information!
