This app offers very few phrases, and most of them are incorrect or misleading. Not every phrase has a direct translation. For example, there’s really no standard Patwa phrase for “what are you doing”; it changes depending on the situation and who you’re addressing. “Badmind” doesn’t just mean “jealous”; it’s a uniquely Jamaican concept that encompasses regular hateful and covetous thoughts... it’s kind of hard to explain. And apart from in some areas in Britain, “Yardie” doesn’t mean “Jamaican.” It specifically means someone who grew up in a Jamaican government yard. If you call a Jamaican “Yardie” and that’s not their background, you run the risk of causing offense. Those are just a few of the errors I spotted. This app needs more research from a wider group of Jamaicans, and then should be greatly expanded. ### 1/5 — Crashes constantly *2019-10-31, version 9.0* They got one thing right, crashing.
