Bitte noch weiterensprachen wie deutsch zulassen

### 5/5 — Loved the app!

*2026-02-25, version 1.7.1*

Especially as a Chinese speaker lol. But also the lessons are very well written in general, made it fun to read and easy to follow!

### 5/5 — Incroyable

*2026-02-09*

Une appli gratuite ultra qualitative ! J’ai presque envie de faire un don. On sent la passion dans les leçons qui sont complètes et détaillées. Bravo et merci !

### 5/5 — Exceptional app!! I really love it thank you to all the people involved in making it

*2026-02-02, version 1.7.1*

### 5/5 — App Icon

*2026-01-27, version 1.7*

Please fix the massive app icon

### 5/5 — very comprehensible, clean design, extremely useful

*2026-01-24*

I learned most of the Japanese grammar with this guide and am quite comfortable with recognizing and building the forms now. The lessons are well ordered, not too big and you can also practice immediately with example sentences as well as some practice lessons in the first chapters.

In addition, you can look up the vocabulary from the example sentences directly in the app and get also other hints and tips for Japanese language learning.

Furthermore, this guide covers all the grammar and not only formal Japanese which makes it particularly useful to acquire an overall understanding of the the language.

It’s absolutely amazing that this guide is free of charge comparing it to many expensive, not that feature rich but hard to read text books.

### 5/5 — Super sympa

*2025-12-31, version 1.7.1*

Très utile, très bonne application!

### 5/5 — Fantastic free japanese resource

*2025-12-29, version 1.7.1*

This is a great app for learning Japanese. It is well structured, clear and free. However it is very wordy and not ‘gamified’ so will not necessarily suit your preferred learning style. I find it best as an adjunct to other language apps as it gives me the hard facts to what I am learning in parallel. One improvement: I would love to be able to click on the orange text and hear it spoken.

### 5/5 — Very good and easy to use

*2025-12-14, version 1.7.1*

Though i have physical book this app is pretty convenient when I’m studying outside. Very good logic for Japanese study

### 5/5 — Wonderful!!!

*2025-11-29, version 1.7.1*

This app is wonderful and does not hesitate to jump right into the hard stuff at the beginning! Almost like Japanese boot camp and I love it!!!

### 3/5 — Not Bad

*2025-11-16*

There are a lot of good points to this book. The learning structure is challenging yet fair. The author, while adding a lot of great insight into how the language is used, can occasionally be confidently incorrect with the assessment of certain grammar. There is a wealth of common kanji characters for learners to dive in to, although not always including the reading in hiragana might make them useless for beginners. Overall, I’d recommended app because it’s free, but it should be supplemented with additional materials.

### 3/5 — Tae Kim’s popular guide as an app

*2025-10-26, version 1.7.1*

It’s not bad. It’s incredibly helpful. I had it as pdf for years. Was hoping to see something more interactive here in app form. Asking me questions to answer, reinforcement, etc. I don’t use it much. The exercises are the same ones in the pdf, but they should be in a format that forces more out of the user to make learning the grammar a more enjoyable experience.

### 5/5 — Crazy good and accessible app

*2025-10-17, version 1.7.1*

I can say how thankful I am that they made this app free. Most apps won’t let you actually learn without paying. Their lessons are extremely easy to grasp too. Love the company so much. Please keep making apps for us 🙇🏾

### 4/5 — Esprit de Tae Kim est bien respecté

*2025-10-05, version 1.7.1*

Une traduction assez fidèle de l'anglais de Tae Kim. J'aime bien cette application à laquelle il manque cependant une synchro iCloud de la progression quand on partage l'appli entre plusieurs appareils.

### 5/5 — A very useful resource

*2025-10-04*

Broken down into clear sections with short exercises and examples to underline the points.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Bad Grammar

*2026-07-26, version 1.7.1*

Has bad English grammar/typos in the content, so I don’t trust it to teach me Japanese grammar.

### 1/5 — Méthode inadaptée

*2026-01-21, version 1.7.1*

Ce livre ne comporte pas de transcription phonétique ni de leçons mais des développements théoriques sur la linguistique du japonais. Il ne convient donc pas à un débutant.

### 1/5 — Teaches incorrect grammar!😨

*2026-01-20, version 1.7.1*

これはアップに用いてないでください‼️🙇‍♀️

### 1/5 — Test your own work

*2020-08-04, version 1.4*

Exercises work on iPhone but not Mac. Have you even tested your own app before releasing it?

On the Mac, go to Hiragana exercises. Click on any dotted line, the answer is not revealed. I tried pressing space and enter but it doesn't do anything either.

### 1/5 — как с ним работать

*2020-05-28, version 1.0*

Долго бился и не понял как с ним работать русского интерфеса нет
Оно еще и не удаляется пришлось ставить новую ось уплатил за все 50 000 руб

### 1/5 — Kanji Kanji Kanji 🤬

*2020-05-27, version 1.3*

If I knew how to read kanji do you really think I wouldn’t know the English already?!?!
I learned furigana but I have dyslexia. It will take me years to reach a native level reading speed. Put a ROMAJI setting so I can actually learn the grammar this century. 😡

### 2/5 — How do I…

*2026-01-28, version 1.7.1*

…report a problem to the developer? All attempts to report a problem push me towards Twitter. I choose not to engage with the Social Media communities. There should be an easier mechanism for the “simple” user… please.

A response would be appreciated.

### 2/5 — How do I…

*2025-12-06, version 1.7.1*

…report a problem to the developer? All attempts to report a problem push me towards Twitter. I choose not to engage with the Social Media communities. There should be an easier mechanism for the “simple” user… please.

### 2/5 — Really good but constantly crashes

*2025-05-29, version 1.7*

Was a really fantastic app for Mac - but after the Sequoia software update, the app keeps crashing

### 2/5 — How do you do exercises?

*2020-04-10, version 1.0*

I can't input any responses to the exercise questions. Can the developer show us how to do it, or provide an update?

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — A free resource way better than any paid app I’ve seen.

*2026-09-01, version 1.7.1*

I wish I knew where to find more honest and real material like this. It would save me a lot of time filtering through apps and websites begging for subscriptions to use it. I’m not far into the lessons but even just from the intro page I’m hooked.

### 5/5 — Better than Genki

*2026-08-28, version 1.7.1*

This is just absolutely incredible! Everything is well-organized, wonderfully explained, and even nice-looking. It helped clear up a lot of my confusion surrounding adjectives and adverbs (e.g. hayai vs. hayaku). Genki didn’t explain why the -i to -ku change happens. Now I know!

### 5/5 — Great resource

*2026-07-10, version 1.7.1*

This is a wonderful resource for those learning Japanese and those needing to review the language. I highly recommend it.

### 5/5 — AMAZING

*2026-05-31, version 1.7.1*

Thank you im learning so much! The exercises are so effective and get my brain thinking and the fact that its all free is insane. Such a great resource

### 5/5 — Best in-depth explanation

*2026-05-17, version 1.7.1*

This is the antithesis of Duolingo in all the best ways. You can tell this is an app meant for learning the japanese language, not to play a daily-streak game that happens to be about language. It explains in depth why every feature of japanese is the way that it is, and offers great context examples to reinforce the learning. For those serious about learning japanese I couldn't recommend this more. Aussi en tant que francophone, j'apprécie vraiment l'option d'apprendre en français, merci!

### 5/5 — Amazing app

*2026-05-02, version 1.7*

a perfect compilation of tae kims grammar guide in an easy to navigate, easy to use, desktop and mobile app.

### 5/5 — Super clair et gratuit, what else?

*2026-04-26*

Super petite appli qui va droit au but. En fait, pas si petite que ça. 69 leçons !
Très intuitif et vraiment tourné vers la façon de penser japonaise. Super.

### 5/5 — First Impressions

*2026-04-06, version 1.7.1*

The eloquent introduction made me stop and think “yes, this is exactly what I was looking for. Finally! Someone gets it!” And so, I’m happy to find out what awaits me in this journey. I’ll keep you posted :)

### 5/5 — great work！

*2026-03-30*

very useful and acceptable to beginners!

### 5/5 — Last Thanksgiving to Mr.Sensei.Tae Kim

*2026-03-12, version 1.7.1*
