### 3/5 — Helpful but lacking for Arabic

*2026-03-15, version 1.2.16*

I enjoyed the explanations but it was a little too heavy on metaphors.

### 3/5 — Some errors

*2026-01-20, version 1.2.15*

I found two errors.
1. “Report an error” and “Send us a message” don’t work on my phone

2 “Type (insert hiragana for and i) in English”
“Type (U hiragana) in English” Ai in English is love, the Roman/Latin alphabet to sound out Japanese words? That’s romaji. Romaji is not English. Other than that, good app.

### 5/5 — Helps with Japanese Kana!

*2025-11-10, version 1.2.15*

When I first got this app I knew nothing but with the mnemonics it really helps and finished kana! 10/10 app must have for people learning Japanese

### 5/5 — Dr.Moku App Love it 💖

*2025-11-06, version 1.2.15*

Absolutely love the Dr. Moku app and learning cards! The visual images make it so much easier to remember, and the focus on writing and pronunciation creates a completely different—and more effective—way of learning. Thank you 🙏🏼 It’s been such a great discovery!

### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2025-10-27, version 1.2.15*

Dr. Moku makes learning Korean fast and the customer service is amazing!

### 3/5 — It’s great to a certain point

*2025-10-16, version 1.2.15*

I bought the Japanese pack of dr Moku but it had really bad glitches and a lot of the stuff was not loading properly I deleted and reinstalled the app but it still doesn’t work so I request a refund so I suggest you pay for something else I hope who’s reading this has a blessed day

### 5/5 — Great support

*2025-09-14, version 1.2.12*

Replied to me and got an issue fixed the same day. Also, the app is great

### 5/5 — Built-in options with images

*2025-09-12, version 1.2.12*

Nice design to the options

### 4/5 — Fun and useful

*2025-08-12, version 1.2.05*

I actually feel like I’m learning and is not demanding, it’s actually fun.

### 4/5 — Great app

*2025-08-09, version 1.2.05*

I decided to learn other languages just for fun or I guess learning the basics, and this app helps a lot. The only real downside is the fact you have to pay for full access to the lessons. So 8/10

### 5/5 — Nice appss

*2025-08-04, version 1.2.05*

Im 42 and it helps a lot

### 5/5 — Brilliant Method and Fun!

*2025-07-21, version 1.2.05*

I love this app. I am learning Japanese right now and this app is so much fun and makes the task so much easier and enjoyable. It such a simple to system to memorise Hiragana and Katakana! Genius! No subscription, get everything for one low price and keep it forever, which includes all future updates too for 19.99 one off. It’s even more fun than the No1 without constantly paying out on a subscription and extras. Don’t hesitate and get away from those old dry, stuffy methods. Get it! Ed Sheeran the Pelican commands you! Eh?!!

### 5/5 — Amazing!!

*2025-05-05*

It’s very worth to use the paid version!! Helps a lot!!

### 5/5 — Wonderful learning app!

*2025-04-25, version 1.2.04*

Dr. Moku makes it super easy to keep learning Hiragana and Katakana wherever I am. Just like the flash cards, each character in the app is paired with a clever and memorable drawing that makes it stick in my head. It’s been a game changer for memorization. Now, even on the go, I can quickly review characters and keep practicing. I highly recommend this app to anyone learning Japanese!

### 4/5 — So worth the purchase!

*2025-04-14, version 1.2.03*

I paid the $8 to get all the Japanese learning on the app. (An amazing deal since you get all three alphabets and a words phrase list!) I only wish that there were ways to quiz the alphabets after you learn each category in the alphabets. It is confusing that after Hiragana they expect you to know Katakana for the modified Hiragana quiz section.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Rip off

*2026-08-17, version 2.0.1*

I paid to get this app and it just gave me a basic little lesson and you have to buy everything else in pieces. It’s like paying for vowels and words. Ridiculous

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2026-05-21, version 2.0.0*

I bought the app and now it glitches and won’t open when I want to use it.

### 1/5 — Not free

*2026-05-07, version 1.2.16*

You need to pay money in order to use the app.

### 1/5 — Misleading privacy

*2026-05-06, version 1.2.16*

The App Store page shows that no data is collected, but the app is unusable without an account and acceptance of an invasive privacy policy.

### 1/5 — Login errors

*2025-06-16, version 1.2.05*

Majority of the time I have been logged out and unable to log back in, or it sits on the loading screen forever.

### 1/5 — Trash

*2025-02-10, version 1.1.96*

Sign up gives me an error every time

### 1/5 — Cant login

*2025-02-08, version 1.1.96*

Cant login getting html erori

### 1/5 — No

*2024-04-05, version 1.1.62*

This is a program i wouldn’t recommend i would rather use duolingo or hey japan this app is all about making their own money because they basically talk about the language and show you one or three characters of the languages alphabet then you have to buy the bundles in order to learn more.

### 1/5 — Very low unusable sound

*2023-09-15, version 1.1.62*

I purchased the Japanese bundle. The sound is absolutely unusable. It is so low that you cannot hear it well. I turned up my volume to max, even turned up my hearing aids. I can hear people 50 feet away, but cannot hear any sound from the app. Turned off my hearing aids and tried to use my phone speaker and nothing came out. The app should have an in app volume adjustment to compensate for the actual recording volume in case it was done in a quiet office by someone with perfect hearing. There are sounds but they are so low and no setting changes on my iPhone can help increase the sound volume.

### 1/5 — Handshake error

*2023-07-19, version 1.1.61*

Can’t even get into the app. Signed up with Apple ID bit ‘handshake error’ means I can’t get into the app to use it. 1 star for now

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best app ever!

*2026-07-30*

I highly recommend this to visual learners. I was literally able to read within a week. Super thanks to the creators and I hope to learn other languages as well.

### 5/5 — This app is worth checking out!

*2026-07-12, version 2.0.0*

I am learning Japanese and this app has been really helpful. I am a visual learner so the way this teaches the characters is good for my learning style. I did have to pay money for the Japanese course but was totally worth it!! ♡✌︎('ω')✌︎♡

### 5/5 — Such An Effective Way To Teach!!

*2026-07-09, version 2.0.0*

I wasn’t sure how easy it would be to learn a new language at 55 years old, but this has helped and impressed me since day one. The app itself is beautifully designed and the mnemonics are fun and make it so easy to memorize. The one-time fee (no subscriptions, yay!!) is very reasonable considering everything you get with each section. If you’re wanting to learn effectively and fast, this is the right app for you.

### 5/5 — Best system ever!

*2026-06-22, version 2.0.0*

Best , funniest way to learn and memorize.

### 5/5 — Thank You

*2026-06-17, version 2.0.0*

Great opportunity for learning

### 5/5 — Great app and wonderful customer service!

*2026-05-06, version 1.2.16*

The app is beautiful and Mimi is so sweet and helpful. I look forward to using this app and I’m glad I found this learning resource on my journey to become a polyglot.

### 5/5 — Always returned to the Dr

*2026-02-21, version 1.2.16*

Thank you for helping me with my learning. Love this app.

### 5/5 — Focus on Language

*2026-02-08, version 1.2.16*

Great app that gets straight to language learning without all the other non necessary distractions like some other apps.

### 5/5 — Fantastic Flashcard supporting app

*2026-01-02, version 1.2.15*

I’ve been learning Hangul for a few weeks now and struggles with some characters. My partner got me flash cards from Amazon which helped a *ton* but is hard to bring with me around all day. I just got access to the complimentary digital version in the app and it’s made a huge difference in frequency of use: I’m now able to launch it, quickly review, and understand a mistake. It’s been a fantastic learning tool for reading: so much so I now am decently good at reading random Korean words!

### 5/5 — Much better alternative to Duolingo

*2025-11-23, version 1.2.15*

This is a really well-crafted app. I spent 3 years doing Duolingo, and it felt too gamified and reward driven, and I plateaued rather quickly. Dr. Moku does a great job of explaining the “why” and the “how” rather than just relying on rote memorization with no explanation. The mnemonics are SUPER helpful and create mental connections with the characters. Really impressed after using this app for only a short period of time.
