The simplicity of the themes and ease of use are amazing. The ability to learn both the traditional and simplified characters within the app is more than I can do with some of the bog names. I have learned and RETAINED more using ChineseWords ChineseSkill. No matter what new app comes along that I try (and have paid for) I always come back to these two. Also, their feedback form is broken - no server host name found or something. ### 1/5 — Don't believe fake reviews. *2017-03-10, version 1.0* ChineseSkill apps are copying HelloChinese (a different app / company) and not doing a good job of it content and advanced feature wise. I travel for business and tried several free apps to avoid Rosetta Stone. If I didn't find something I would have bought Rosetta. I have for other languages I needed for work. But fortunately there is a free app that taught me Mandarin well, HelloChinese. I really gave this app a good thorough testing but it is just crap in my opinion. Especially when HelloChinese (free), or SpeakChinese (free) or Rosetta Stone ($299) is out there for serious learners. Rosetta can hook you up with real live people to practice with but if you don't want to pay for that then free HelloChinese and/or SpeakChinese are best!!! But there are some quirks which almost defeat its purpose as a flash card app. - the biggest problem is that when you mark a card you got wrong, it just repeats that card until you mark it as "remembered." normally flashcard apps tuck that card away and bring it up later, because obviously I'm going to remember what it was since I literally just saw it. - that wouldn't be that much of a problem, but the cards don't seem to repeat in any meaningful way. I see cards I know very well and cards I have difficulty with at the same frequency. I can't tell if this app is remembering what I'm having trouble with. - the graph at the end, which shows you how many you marked "remembered," "forgot," etc. is not very accurate. I've definitely done a run where I marked all cards as "remembered" and the graph at the end showed some as "don't know" or "forgot." is it actually recording how well I know the cards? is it tailoring the flash cards to my weaknesses, or are the cards it shows me pre-set? who knows - the definitions are limited to one line, no word wrap. so if the definition is too long it gets cut off. one of the cards' definitions was "measure word for..." which is not very useful. I'll still use the app because it is super quick to flip through cards, so I can review words in like 5 minutes. I want the flash cards to be different, a way I can memorize it, I know you can say “Not remembered” or whatever, but it doesn’t really help me... also, I think the quiz should let you choose the number of questions you want, but give them some options. For example, 100, 50, or 20. I really love this app and it helped me, thank you so much!! But when I speak it randomly to my friends (through text mostly) they don’t even know what I’m saying, so I recommended this app to them 🤗. They loved it, and we practiced together. It’s a great way to bond with friends, siblings, or parents. Once again, I recommend this app if you’re tryna learn Chinese.
