Fantastic app from Tom Grant, excellent stuff.

### 1/5 — I’m confused.

*2024-09-19*

After looking over the reviews all seemed great. I went into the app and the first thing I did was to turn off the mute in the app. The sound effects work just fine and I can hear them great. What I’m confused about is why I can’t hear the word themselves?? Like I said. I can hear the sound effects just fine it just won’t pronounce the word. Am I doing something wrong???

### 1/5 — No sound

*2024-06-29*

I deleted the app three times and reinstalled it because I saw another review saying it had sound and I can say with positive confidence that it doesn’t.

### 1/5 — It could be better

*2022-07-13*

This app does not teach you Old Norse it helps you practice it

**Developer response:** Hi there, you learn a language by getting to grips with the grammar and by building up your vocabulary. This app gives you the chance to learn and practice both. If you have any advice on how these can be improved please do get in touch.

### 3/5 — Would be better with audio pronunciation

*2024-05-02*

The app is alright, I wish that there was some sort of audio of how to say the word like in Duolingo. I can learn better when I know how to say the word.

### 3/5 — Would be great if it worked properly.

*2023-05-25*

The app is well enough I just don’t like that it says you can hear it and learn how to pronounce stuff however it doesn’t, all it does is light up, no sound comes out, and when you email them for help with it they wont respond.

**Developer response:** Hi Heidi, the only two things I can think of are make sure that the sound is not disabled in the app's settings, and that your app sound is turned up. Everything else works fine on apple devices I've tested.

### 3/5 — Tap on a word pronounce it

*2023-03-25*

I really like this app but i would like to have a basic overview like duolingo for easier learning.
Overall this app is great!

### 5/5 — A fun challenge!

*2025-10-14, version 1.025*

I like the % feedback and enjoy the challenge of discovering Old Norse words that resemble others I am familiar with in Swedish, German and English.

### 5/5 — Old Norse

A beautiful app for a beautiful ancient language. Thank you for making it. 🙏🏻

### 5/5 — Free yet fantastic

*2024-05-16*

First of all, this app “Learn Old Norse” is free. You have nothing to lose by downloading it and trying it. Secondly, it’s well-put-together and easy to navigate. You even get to hear how each consonant, vowel, accented vowel etc is pronounced.
There are also questions to quiz yourself with multiple choice answers. Example question taken directly from the app: What is the meaning of the Old Norse adverb ‘i sundr’?
I love this app.

### 5/5 — 10/10

so this app is free one and two its amazing and everything works. the sounds and all, I had deleted the app cause I didn't understand how to use it but I redownloaded it after seeing the maker respond to a comment about the audio does work, I had no clue where to even find that but I eventually did find it though. my only recommendation is to add a bit of a guide in the main page but besides that I mean its amazing. if your able to I would say add runes and even an alphabet. but its a 10/10 just a little tricky to get the hang of but once you do its amazing.

It’s beautiful to have a way to understand and pronounce this language

### 5/5 — Wonderful Resource!

I love this app! As a student of Old Norse, it's the perfect tool for reference and practice. Thank you for developing this! Making it freely available is very generous and much appreciated.

### 5/5 — Great Tool for Students

*2022-02-14*

I’m currently a Viking & Medieval Norse Studies MA student at HÍ, and after playing around here for bit, I think this will be a very useful tool for practicing. I will definitely inform my peers!

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2022-02-14, version 1.0*

I appreciate the clear explanations of what, for instance, a strong verb is; it is not an intuitive concept until it’s explained well.

### 5/5 — Addictive in a good way

*2022-02-14, version 1.0*

I just love it. It is amazing to find out just how many words in English come from Old Norse. Never be bored again.
