This is a great app to have on hand for quick piano playing while traveling or working on your site reading. Would appreciate having expanded classical music options, but grateful for all the great music you already have. The level of difficulty ratings are useful and the ability to locate other pieces from the same publications is helpful. Und Geduld mitbringen. ### 2/5 — what am i missing *2026-03-13, version 7.0.0* I had seen the advertisements for the app and was excited because I really want to learn how to play and to read music the correct way, not just with numbers and tape. I opened the app and readily accepted the seven day trial, thank goodness. When I went to the bottom Tab after downloading, it has a learn tab but everything under the learning I had to unlock for an additional one year sub $250 or $40 a month? I don’t see any learning activities that start from the beginning and don’t cost anything in addition to the $250 that they already want me to pay when the trial is over. there’s really no explanation as to how the app works or where you’re supposed to begin or what’s even occurring within it. The dashboard has a start tab, but when you click it, they’re just songs that you chose that you would like to learn or that you already know, and those songs are just playing they’re not even showing you how to play there’s no lessons that I can find that include the subscription that I am supposed to pay $250 for. Der Preis für das Abo ist absolut indiskutabel. Wenn man doppelt so teuer ist, muss man auch doppelt so gut sein. Der Funktionsumfang hängt irgendwo in den 2000er Jahren fest. Ich fühle mich hier eher an meine staubige Klavierlehrerin erinnert. Ob man im Zeitalter von AI eine null interaktive Klavier-App ohne Playalong alleine mit Marketing in den Markt gedrückt bekommt, weiss ich nicht. Pluspunkt: Noten sind ausdruckbar. Das können einige andere leider nicht. ### 3/5 — Midi-Schnittstelle *2025-11-20* Eigentlich eine tolle Möglichkeit Klavier zu lernen, allein eine Midi-Schnittstelle fehlt, wie man sie in anderen Apps findet. So muss ich für die direkte Kontrolle und auf optisches Feedback verzichten und verschiedene Apps verwenden. Das allein finde ich sehr Schade. Eine MIDI-Schnittstelle wäre ein echter Mehrwert für Beginner, für den ich auch gern bereit bin ein paar Euro mehr zu zahlen. **Developer response:** Danke für dein Feedback. I feel like the developers truly care about feedback and regularly add features. The app is very easy to operate and has the interactive feature which plays the song for you with a guided line so you can really hear the rhythm. The rating system is very helpful so I can tell which songs are my level and which I can stretch to play. However, this app promises but can’t deliver. It is NOT suitable for learning, maybe good for people who can already play piano. It assesses your initial level and offers only note sheets within this level. No idea how you van progress or “upgrade” your level. It promises video lessons but there are NONE. The playing tempo with the sheets is always irregular. Music sounds before or after the the cursor hit the notes so you can’t follow along at all. It does not “listen” to you hitting the notes so you get no feedback as to know if you play right or not. Do not waste your money. **Developer response:** We are sorry to hear about your experience. It sounds like you've not opted for the Learning Plan which includes all video courses you were searching for. Bei OKTAV gibt es zwei unterschiedliche Arten von Noten: Neben vollständig digital erstellten, interaktiven Noten gibt es auch eine Sammlung klassischer Originalausgaben, die auf hochwertigen Scans renommierter Verlage basieren. Diese Noten sind bewusst nicht digital nachgebaut, sondern entsprechen exakt der gedruckten Ausgabe – inklusive Layout, Fingersätzen und editorischer Details. Gerade im Klassikbereich (z. B. Urtext-Ausgaben) legen viele Pianist:innen großen Wert auf diese Authentizität. Bei diesen gescannten Noten ist daher kein automatisches Abspielen möglich – die Noten bewegen sich, um das Blättern zu erleichtern. Uns ist bewusst, dass das ohne Kontext verwirrend wirken kann, und wir arbeiten daran, diese Unterschiede in der App klarer zu kommunizieren. Ständig Verbindungsabbrüche, Lieder, die sich nicht öffnen lassen, weil etwas schief gelaufen ist, oder aber ganze Abstürze - das macht so keinen Spaß. So ist die App einfach zu nichts nutze, ganz davon abgesehen, dass man auf der Webseite viel mehr vorgeschlagen bekommt (Stichwort Playlists). **Developer response:** Danke für dein Feedback. It took 20 minutes, but that was nothing compared to the time spent trying to unsubscribe. Ich stufe mich auf Lvl 1 ein. Also blutiger Anfänger, und was bekomme ich an Empfehlungen? Vorschläge mit Lvl 41 bis 81. Soll das ein Witz sein? Dies im Internet zu bewerben, nennt man unlauteren Wettbewerb. I like to play early, first thing in the morning and find something new for sight reading practice. Then, I love to use the library to expand my repertoire and dive deep into playlists and discover new music. OKTAV is perfect for this. I think the difficulty level ratings make it much easier to quickly find the next piece. I like being able to sort through playlists and find something new at a level that makes sense. It’s also easier for me to see improvement when I’m able to choose harder pieces. It’s really a great resource that makes piano possible for the individual adult player. Would love for this to have a scanning feature for mobile phone so I can add some of my print music and merge libraries! That way I can bring my iPad and have everything together wherever I go. ### 5/5 — Fantastic Piano and Sheet Music App *2026-07-01, version 8.0.0* This app plays the sheet music as you follow along making learning new songs so much easier or you can listen to songs you’ve never heard before. If you’re just learning like me it’s very very helpful. Also, when you join you get to print out 25 pieces of music for free. There is also learning to play videos and books. Well, worth the price of admission. ### 5/5 — Großartig *2026-06-10* Ich spiele mittlerweile ca. 2 Jahre Klavier und habe für die Anfänge verschiedene Apps ausprobiert. Doch keine der Apps hat mich so überzeugt wie Oktav. Die App bietet Lernkurse an die Perfekt für Einsteiger geeignet sind, zudem ist die App so ausgelegt, dass man lernt nach Noten zu spielen, was mir rückblickend als Einsteiger sehr geholfen hätte. Insgesamt merkt man, dass die App gut durchdacht ist und von Profis entwickelt wurde, wodurch auch der Preis sehr gerechtfertigt ist. Easy to bookmark favourites and search for favourite pieces. Would recommend to users who don’t want the bells and noises which come with other apps aimed at much younger students. Changing the tempo also helps when I want to play along to the interactive parts. It’s the best piano app I’ve tried thus far. I would really like to see the app be able to scroll at the speed I’m playing. I also hope they enhance it so that the scrolling follows the music for standard songs (returns to play a section again as directed by the score), not just the interactive songs. As I said, I enjoy the app and it’s really good. But some tweaks, like mentioned above, would be great! ### 5/5 — Needs landscape capability!! *2025-09-01, version 6.0.0* First of all, I love Oktav. I recently got the yearly subscription and it’s an incredible help for me learning to play. But unfortunately I’m forced to use the Oktav website in Safari on my iPad, because for me the app is absolutely useless without landscape support. It already works when displaying music / book content, so why not for the main UI?
