### 4/5 — Solid to start with

*2022-09-05, version 3.0*

This app is pretty solid to start off learning with, but kinda short lived with mostly just vocabulary. I wish there were a more extensive library of phrases, especially those that you’d use on a daily basis, and not just in specific instances (ie Greeting, Shopping, Travel). Otherwise super solid for isolated words. Love the authenticity with the native speakers.

### 4/5 — Gut, aber ...

*2019-09-23*

Die App ist gut - in Aufmachung, Übungen, Übersicht. Ich finde es auch gut, dass zwei verschiedene Aussprachen gegeben werden. Auch den Preis finde ich angemessen. Mein einziges Manko - die Buchstaben fehlen. Warum gibt man etwas zum Lernen einer Fremdsprache heraus und lässt die Aussprache der Buchstaben weg? Wenn das Nachgebessert würde, wäre die App 5 Sterne wert.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback, we’re really glad you like uTalk Classic. 😊 We also agree that knowing how to pronounce the letters of the alphabet in your chosen language would be a useful addition. That’s why we included it on our flagship uTalk - Learn Any Language app and - if you contact support@utalk.com - we’d be pleased to give you the Scottish Gaelic alphabet topic to help you on your way. Wishing you lots of language success! Best wishes, Sarah

### 3/5 — OK

*2019-05-13, version 3.0*

Good basic categories but the games are too easy with the “hard games” still prompting far too often on the few words that sound like English words. By contrast, the sections that share phrases go way too quickly to really learn the phrase (slower please!). Immediately bummed there’s no section to learn the alphabet or basic pronouns, definite articles... basic building blocks of a sentence, though you can piece some things together from looking at enough of the basic phrases they teach. Still glad I got this app though!

### 3/5 — Not bad

*2013-05-11, version 1.5.5*

Would like to have more phrases. Seems to be missing the basics like "how are you", "I am fine", my name is or this is my mother, sister etc., weather "it is nice out today" otherwise great for learning pronunciation,

### 4/5 — Expand

*2013-04-03, version 1.5.5*

I really enjoy the practice and would like to see the program expanded. It would be helpful to have a phonetic guide to the Gaelic alphabet too.

### 3/5 — Fix please

*2011-07-27, version 1.2*

It would be nice if you could slow it down.....way to fast some of it.....give more ideas on how to pronounce words like bh makes a v sound

### 4/5 — Well done

*2011-02-12, version 1.2*

As a language junkie I love this app! What it does, it does very well: hear the pronunciation from male and female speakers, see flash card images paired with spoken word. The "games" allow practice to reinforce learning. It is impressive that it is designed to teach regardless of your native language. I am disappointed there are so few words (and fewer phrases) provided considering the cost - hence the 4 stars. Still no regrets about the purchase and hoping a few more basic phrases (how are you?) will be added in the future.

### 3/5 — Too Little for the Money

*2010-10-28, version 0*

I was a little disapointed I thought it would possibly have a little more for the money. Some of us would like to learn the language because we enjoy learning new things. This program seemed to be just for tourists, those who wish to travel. There is so little for those of us who would like to truely learn the language but can not afford to go to Scotland to the college.

### 5/5 — Fantastic app 

*2010-09-26, version 0*

Now finally I can learn my own language!  great and easy to use!

### 5/5 — 's math sin!

*2010-08-23, version 0*

'S math sin! Smashing!
Tapadh leibhse! Thank you!

### 4/5 — schottisch-gaelisch

*2010-06-30*

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — I dont like it!

*2020-07-29, version 3.0*

This app does not give you the same words as my learn Gaelic dictionary book that I have. I am very disappointed. Its like it is in a totally different language than Gaelic!

### 1/5 — Not worth the price

*2015-10-16, version 1.6.1*

I downloaded this yesterday and used it for about 15 minutes. From what I could see, there is limited vocabulary, no explanation for the different pronunciation between the male and female voices. I was promted to download another Utalk app (as a bonus!) which has the same limited vocabulary and voices. Now this app will not open at all.

### 1/5 — App doesn't work

*2014-10-18, version 1.6*

This would be a good app but the playback doesn't work so I can't get past the easy level. Am hoping there will be a fix released soon, otherwise I have wasted my money

### 1/5 — Nice but inadequate

*2013-12-28, version 1.6*

It's a nicely organised app but it's got a very small number of words. About 150, I guess. And no dictionary / translation. Not worth £6.95

### 1/5 — Poor

*2013-08-13, version 1.5.5*

I don't recommend this app. 10 dollars does not worth the lessons given and are mostly very simple words. There are very limited things you can learn here. What is the gaelic for 21 or 30? I can never learn it from here. Please upgrade this version to something like what Busuu make for its customers, sadly they don't have Scottish Gaelic apps. 10 dollars may get people mad, please do not waste our money for something worth two dollars ..

### 2/5 — I loved this app for years but

*2026-02-10, version 3.0*

This app was great for me to learn Scottish Gaelic and prouncing words but it makes me pay for adding the topics.

### 2/5 — Schottisches gälisch

*2021-11-16*

Der Einstieg in diese Sprache ist so seltsam wie ich es noch nie beim Fremdsprachenlernen erlebt habe. Da werden irgendwelche seltsamen Wörter und Redewendungen vorgegeben….. Normalerweise fängt man mit der gegenseitigen Vorstellung an ( Name, woher man kommt, wie es dem anderen geht etc) Hier wird wahllos irgendwas vorgegeben…. Schade, dass ich diese seltsame App installiert habe !!!!!

### 2/5 — Huh?

*2014-08-22, version 1.6*

They have practice words but half the pictures make no sense. Have no idea what I'm saying 1/4 of the time. Hard to hear pronunciation of a lot of words especially the male voice.

### 2/5 — ganz nett, aber wenig hilfreich

*2010-07-05*

Really good for starting. Good little games that help the memory process. Recommend this

### 5/5 — Scottish language app review

*2017-02-26, version 1.7.1*

This is a fantastic Scottish language app. The words are clearly spoken, correspond to related photos to help quick recognition. I am going to Scotland in 2018, and I will use this on my trip. Thank you for your efforts. It was well worth the $10 US.
Ian

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2016-02-12, version 1.7.1*

The app is 100% AMAZING I'm a Scott who doesn't know Gaelic but it's spot on, AMAZING!

### 5/5 — Fantastic language app

*2015-03-27, version 1.6.1*

This app is beyond my expectations. I’ve tried language apps before, but this is by far the best I’ve found. Especially for a difficult language such as gaelic - I’m impressed with the ease of listening to both male and female voices pronouncing the words and phrases, and the play back of my own attempts is a cool feature. It’s a clearly well thought out design. I would highly recommend it for anyone just starting out learning Gaelic!

### 5/5 — Needs 5 more stars!

*2013-10-11, version 1.6*
