## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not a good app

*2016-07-28, version 1.7.1*

Very basic. Not very useful information. Not intuitive. Doesn't build an understanding of language. I learnt more from speaking with locals. Teaches colours, numbers and basic words. Absolutely useless in any practical sense or application. Keeps wanting to sell you further instalments.
Go buy Tok Pisin and speak with locals many have a great grasp of English and love to converse and share their language

### 1/5 — Avoid!!!!

*2015-05-11, version 1.6.1*

Very basic. Do not waste $$$ on this. Only useful if u need total beginner pigeon. The vocab is limited to less than a few phrases that's all tasol

### 1/5 — Absolute Rubbish

*2013-09-18, version 1.5.5*

It is one of the worst investments I have made and at a ridiculous price !! Do not buy this app ! It has minimal use, in the Tok Pisin phrases it teaches you to say "where is the train station" why the hell would I ask that in a country that has no trains ???

### 1/5 — Do not waste your money.

*2013-07-03*

Terrible. Do not waste your money.
Not enough phrases or useful words for any real traveler to get by.
Would give zero stars if I could.

### 1/5 — Frustrating

*2012-10-20, version 1.5.1*

Wish I'd read the reviews first!!!!! Very little content. Useless word conversions. Rarely used phases/questions with no answers. Nothing useful for conversation. Waste of money!!

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2012-04-02, version 1.5.1*

I have to agree with reviews so far. Nothing but a vocab list of mostly useless words. And keeps hanging. Waste of money!

### 1/5 — False advertising

*2012-03-03, version 1.5*

Do NOT buy this, it is a scandalous rip off. CLearly done by people with no knowledge of PNG. Almost no content and what's there is rubbish. They must have a generic list of words and they provide "translations" but many are for things that don't exist in PNG and/or are irrelevant - eg railway station, raspberry ... I can't believe I was fool enough to pay for this, it is USELESS.

### 1/5 — Waste

*2011-04-16, version 1.2*

Total waste of money!

### 1/5 — Rubbish

*2010-12-29, version 1.2*

This is most certainly not worth the $13. It has many single word translations however these are almost always exactly the same as the English words so are not very useful. What this app lacks is attention to phrasing and sentence structure. There are only 20 phrases! That's $1.50 per phrase. DO NOT BUY!

### 2/5 — Good app, not a good word list

*2019-09-11*

This is a pretty good language learning app design. I like that it uses pictures instead of English. However they are clearly working from a word list designed for other languages. Tok Pisin is an English based creole so much of the vocabulary comes directly from English, so English speaking learners of Tok Pisin need to focus more on learning the grammatical forms rather than vocabulary which is basically English. This app has a few phrases but not nearly enough to justify the price. Instead use the uTalk app. It has more topics and you can focus on the topics that show some sentence structure.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback. You’re right that the Tok Pisin language of Papua New Guinea (which literally means ’Talk Pidgin’) is largely based on English although it also has influences from German and indigenous local languages. We also understand that this can be frustrating for English speakers and agree with you that our uTalk - Learn Any Language (Tok Pisin) app might be a better fit for people like yourself as it includes more than 2,500 words and phrases of Tok Pisin compared to uTalk Classic’s 250 words and phrases. Thank you for saying that you like our learning method. 😊 All our apps use recordings of native speakers and, as you say, are designed to be used by speakers of a wide range of languages, not just English. If we can ever be of any help, please email support@utalk.com We wish you lots of language success! Best wishes, Sarah

## Most praised reviews (3 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great

*2010-06-10, version 0*

It's easy to learn and his games are fun while educational.

### 3/5 — Great App but poor value for money

*2012-07-15, version 1.5.1*

This is a great app however it is very much for beginners. It only contains 256 phrases and words. If you could down load another 750 words it may be worth the money. I still do not regret buying the app however.

### 2/5 — Just OK - many inaccuracies

*2011-02-25*

Ten bucks is way too much for this app. I thought it would be a cool way for my kids to learn Tok Pisin and they were very excited, but there are A LOT of errors in this. Examples: this translates elbow as 'elbo' and milk as 'milk' instead of 'han skru' and 'susu' respectively. Don't even get me started on their translation of colors! When did you EVER hear a native Pisin speaker say "light blue-pela" or "peach-pela"?? So don't put any faith in learning the language from this lousy app, but it's amusing if you already know Pisin.
