## What is Ledger?

Ledger keeps track of small debts between people who already know each other —
housemates, a group trip, the people you get dinner with. It never moves money.
It just remembers, so nobody has to.

CIRCLES CANCEL OUT

If you owe Ana, Ana owes Ben, and Ben owes you, nobody actually needs to pay
anything. Ledger notices the loop and clears it. What's left is the shortest set
of payments that settles everyone up — and it only ever asks you to pay someone
you actually dealt with.

ENTRIES ONLY COUNT AGAINST YOU

You record what you owe. You confirm what you've been paid. Anything in your
favour is sent to the other person to agree first, so nobody can quietly add a
debt in your name. Add each other as friends and you can both skip that step.

SPLIT A BILL BY WEIGHT

Put in the total, add who was there, and give each person a weight. Equal
weights split it evenly; give someone 2 and they pay twice as much as someone on
1. Weight fields take sums, so you can type 17.95+5.75 straight off a receipt.

For the awkward ones, split a bill into parts. Weight the food by what people
ordered and split the tip evenly. Or divide a total into fractions — six tenths
of a car rental shared, four tenths charged to one person.

NOTHING IS EVER DELETED

Balances are recalculated from the full history every time, so nothing drifts
out of sync. A mistaken entry is negated rather than erased, and both stay on
the record.

INVITE ONLY

There's no sign-up form. Everyone here was invited by someone already in, and
each invite code works exactly once.

BUILT SMALL ON PURPOSE

One screen. Two numbers. No feeds, no adverts, no analytics, no tracking, and
nothing shared with anyone.

Ledger records debts between people. It is not a bank, a payment service or a
lender, and no money passes through it.
