### 2/5 — Lost my recordings

*2026-04-29*

Customer service says it is because when I turned the screen off on my phone, my phone put the app in the background and didn’t prioritize my microphone which caused my hour and a half recording of my class notes that I need to print to use for my midterm tomorrow not to save to the cloud which in turn caused it to not save to the Genio app. The pictures I added throughout the recording are there so I don’t understand how the photos are still there but the recording is not. I’m going to go back to using the voice recorder on my phone because I’ve never had a problem with that app.

### 2/5 — Slow & buggy

*2026-04-11*

The app is too slow to be functional and constantly crashes

### 3/5 — Not as good on IPad

*2026-02-22*

I have used this app on both iPad and MacBook and in has much less features on iPad. Most importantly for me there is no AI transcript and no audio recording from your device browser.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your review. We're actively working on bringing more features to the mobile app.
Unfortunately recording from your browser isn't something that's possible on mobile devices; so we'll be unable to add that.
You can already transcribe your audio within the app; if you need help with this, then please email me at support@genio.co and I can help.
Thanks, David

### 3/5 — Scribble

*2026-02-10, version 1.259.0*

The scribble will not let me post my notes to the recording

### 2/5 — Web interface works app is garbage

*2025-10-09*

I appreciate the the web interface of this and have used it for 2 1/2 years now I really really need the ability to edit the transcriptions. I have no idea why we’re adding other features but not that.

My primary problem is with the iPad and phone apps. I want to be able to re-listen to lectures, but I can’t even get them to open on my devices or get the app to stay open for long enough to play them. And because the audio files stay in the app, there’s no option to export them. I’m irked. I talked to support and the solution they gave me was for a problem. I don’t even have. They told me that I needed to offload downloaded files to my phone in order to make it work, but I didn’t have any downloaded files to my phone. They need to put some serious work into the mobile apps especially considering how many students primarily use ipads.

### 2/5 — Doesn’t work on Macbooks

*2025-08-28, version 1.244.0*

good concept but it’s unable to be used on safari.. and it doesn’t have an app for Macbooks! the whole point is to make things easier, having to go to a different browser and not being able to connect my phone app to my mac defeats the whole purpose.

### 3/5 — PLEASE make Mac app

*2025-07-26, version 1.238.0*

Would be 5 stars if I didn’t have to use different browsers for taking notes, recording lecture, etc. please make a macOS app.

“Click reduction” is not very great either

### 3/5 — No summary feature

*2025-07-16*

I do not have access to a computer and only use this on my Ipad/Iphone, so I don’t have access to the summary feature since it’s not in the app. It’s one of the main things my institution marketed to me with the software, but it’s not even available to users who use a mobile device. The website isn’t even compatible with mobile browsers, even chrome or edge. Why bother making the app if you’re going to remove key features?

### 2/5 — Slide Text Button Needed

*2025-04-15*

I love Glean on my laptop, but if I have to use it on my iPad it’s almost pointless other than for the recording feature. When you post the slide it doesn’t add the Title, and even worse, we can’t add the slide text to our notes. There is far too much to type in my courses, which is a main reason I got this software. I’m hoping this becomes available soon, because my 2013 laptop is giving out and all I’ll have left is my iPad.

### 1/5 — Live Captioning preview not actually available

*2025-04-09, version 1.227.0*

Updated the app to try the new “Live Captioning” preview as mentioned in the update notes… but surprise, there’s nothing there. Just a popup saying “no features to try.” If you’re going to hype a feature in the release notes, at least make sure it’s actually accessible. This kind of rollout feels sloppy and or misleading — pretty on-brand. Disappointed but not surprised.

### 1/5 — App freezes

*2025-03-21, version 1.225.0*

This app is great when functional. However the latest update has totally broken it for me. Now whenever I open the app, it is completely frozen. My classes only let me record with my phone so there’s no way to use Glean until the issue is fixed. If the freezing is fixed, I’ll update to a positive review.

### 1/5 — App Crashes

*2025-03-13, version 1.223.0*

Works fine on a computer, but the app constantly crashes.

### 1/5 — Lost features on iOS

*2025-01-17, version 1.217.0*

I was gonna use it for school but only a few features are accessible on the app as they are on a widows computer.

### 1/5 — Not cool

*2025-01-07*

It’s nice at first.
Everything is good and exactly how it’s supposed to be until it wasn’t.
Used it five times a week every week for the semester. Took a two week break/vacation and now nothing works anymore
Nothing
The one thing it’s supposed to do record audio doesn’t work not even does it not work it’s not possible for it to work the BUTTON that you press for it to record it’s not there in the first place the only thing on my screen is 23 old files that nobody needs doesn’t matter if you have fancy features if there’s no way to get to them this app website is recommended by colleges how can it be trashy 😡

**Developer response:** I'm sorry that you're having problems with Glean. I suspect that your access to Glean has expired, which is why you're unable to record any additional content.
If you email me at support@glean.co then I can check your account and find out what's happening. Thanks, David.

### 2/5 — App freezes on iPad and Phone

*2024-11-15, version 1.213.0*

I can use this app using my laptop but I every time I try to use it on my iPad and phone it freezes. This isa new occurrence. Last semester I could use it on my iPad and my iPhone but now it just freezes up. It has not worked at all this semester. I hope they fix it.

### 3/5 — Apple pen functionalities?

*2024-11-14*

Scribble function! Interesting, but I would love to see a interface where you can take continuous notes in that section. I usually use OneNote, but this app is provided for my accommodation for Uni, and It’s pretty hard to get it to what I want so far. I’m hoping to see the scribble function change a little bit for ease of use

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback. Although Glean doesn't currently support handwritten notes, we're hoping to bring this in as a future update. Live captions are available on certain Glean accounts. Please email support@glean.co if you'd like more information on this. Thanks, Emma.

### 4/5 — Frozen

*2024-10-09, version 1.209.0*

The app would freeze after a few seconds once open. Just deleted the app and reinstalled, and now seems working.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Mobile app is garbage

*2026-03-12, version 1.260.0*

Enough said

### 1/5 — Crashing and unusable

*2026-03-03, version 1.260.0*

App is constantly crashing on my
iPhone as of two weeks ago. I have been unable to get the notes I need in class because of this. It needs to be fixed. It’s unusable

### 1/5 — App is stripped down. Would be acceptable if the web version didn’t punish you for using iOS.

*2026-01-27*

Top right corner menu is buggy, closing by itself unless you treat the cursor with a surgeon’s precision, making changing the settings mid-session exceedingly difficult or impossible. Overall, markedly less functionality than the web version, which, after contacting support, I learned I can’t use in a browser on my iPad anyway. I was told by support that mobile browsers “do not have the functionality needed to run the website version”, which might be true for all I know, I’m not a developer, but from an end-user standpoint it seems ridiculous to me when NotebookLM runs just fine on every browser on every machine I own, and my old crunchy desktop computer is less powerful than the brand new over-engineered iPad I use during grad school lectures and while studying out and about. I’ve informed my case manager to ask for a refund for the license. There must be parity, even if imperfect, between this version and the web version for the purchase to be worthwhile—if I’m not allowed to use the web version. If I can’t use the features that have been paid for on a device the company says is supported, why use the service?

### 1/5 — Disappointing.

*2025-12-26*

Tried this after using Jamworks. Was very disappointed. Weak interface and very clunky. Not a helpful app. 👎👎👎👎

### 1/5 — Phone app is horrible

*2025-11-12, version 1.252.0*

The app keeps crashing before an old event can upload to the computer, much less try to start a new event. This renders the app useless.

### 1/5 — Very Poor App Design

*2025-11-02, version 1.252.0*

When this product was Glean, the App worked perfectly and was very responsive and easy to use. Since the change over to Genio App, it’s worked poorly, with a slow response time, and constantly closes on itself. Basically, the App can’t be used.

### 1/5 — Horrible on iPad

*2025-08-28, version 1.244.0*

If you plan to use this on your iPad you can’t use an Apple Pencil to take notes. All you can do on the iPad is record. The app needs the ability to handwrite notes while recording

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2025-08-13, version 1.240.0*

I rely on Genio for school, but the app is worse than trash. Doesn’t work. Doesn’t update.

### 1/5 — Crashes after 3 to 5 seconds

*2025-07-15, version 1.238.0*

App closes by itself everytime I open it

### 1/5 — App Problems

*2025-05-10, version 1.230.0*

I love Glean, but the app does not work, which is BEYOND FRUSTRATING because they won’t let you use the freaking website on your phone. I’m switching to a different platform.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Essential

*2025-02-26*

I use Glean on my browser (please support Firefox!) and it’s great for recording, transcribing and searching lecture notes. The app is useful as a backup but I’d recommend the more feature full web based experience.

### 5/5 — Great note taking tool for college students

*2024-12-12*

I often have trouble keeping up with the pace of my professors lectures or the ideas, topics, and evidences brought up and discussed in small discussion. Glean has been great for lectures, when it comes to taking notes with many features on individual slides while also letting me record everything that occurs. These recordings always produce great transcriptions regardless of where I am sitting. These recordings always software is also great at distinguishing different voices when it comes to divining up text for discussions. One great feature to see glean add would be to add a plug in with a AI/LLM like Perplexity or ChatGPT to offer greater details while taking notes and adding to the quick outline. The current software creates a basic summary, but lacks key details.

### 5/5 — Fantastic Structure and Support for an ADHD Student.

*2023-01-31, version 1.117.0*

TLDR;
The app seems to be more user friendly and not finicky on non-apple devices. The app is fantastic for people who are easily distracted in class or people who forget assignments often. If you have ADHD, it is a must try. 5/5.

As a university student with an ADHD diagnosis, this app is a must have. A lot of the negative reviews seem to be about the app malfunctioning with apple products. I use the app regularly on my laptop and I have used it a handful of times on my android without a problem. I hope that the apple version of the software has been fixed because Glean is a beautifully put together piece of software.

I go to class. I import the PowerPoint or pdf for that class. I hit record when the lecture starts and then I am almost forced to pay attention to the lecturer by Gleans layout. There are 3 buttons labeled ‘Important’, ‘review’, and ‘Heading.’ As the professor switches topics or slides, I hit heading and label the new section of notes. I type out the important bits of information and the parts that I think will be on the test I mark with the review button. Lastly, in the same way that I struggle to prioritize my to do lists, I mark way to much information with the important button. But, that is just fine by me because I enjoy reading all of the things that I thought were so important later on when I’m reviewing the lecture for the test. It feels more like a game to me than taking notes. It is much easier to review for exams because all of the information is under a heading and the important parts are typed out.

There is also the task button which is how I keep up with my assignments now. A planner has never worked for me and probably never will. As soon as I close the book, I forget that it even exists. But with Glean I just add tasks to the task list, with a date and a time, right when the professor says so. I still forget to check the task list on the weekends but during the week I am forced to look at it every time I open up Glean to take notes. Speaking of, I need to be studying for an anatomy test in 30 minutes. The app is fantastic if you are easily bored or distracted in class and/or if you are as remarkably forgetful as I am.

**Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to leave this lovely review. We really appreciate it! It's also great to hear how Glean has helped you. 😊

We'd love to hear any more feedback you have in future! Please get in touch with us at support@glean.co to share this.

Regards, Nicole.

### 5/5 — Good

*2023-01-31*

Some limitations on speech recognition (different accents Etc) otherwise good

**Developer response:** Thanks for the 5 Stars.
We're constantly improving the quality of the transcription feature, so you should see a gradual improvement over time.
Please reach out to us on support@glean.co if you have any additional feedback.
Thanks, David

### 5/5 — Potentially free for some college students

*2021-03-15, version 1.29.0*

If you are a college student, you can ask your academic support/student accessibility services team if they would provide this service as a form of note taking aid.

### 4/5 — stops when phone locks

*2024-10-15*

I love the app I just wish that I could still be listening to the recording when my phone locked that way I could listen to it when I’m doing things like showering working out, etc. would help me tremendously with being able to retain the information from my classes. I really hope you take this into consideration and work on an update like such
