Dropped 2 stars. Forgets where you left off in a recorded show and always starts from the beginning. Update 3/19/25: Some of the issues I described below have been fixed!! You can now see the entire recorded show when you press play so you can fast forward to a specific time. It also remembers where you left off in a show and does not start over from the begining. Fixing these two issues has raised my rating to 5 stars. Thank you!!! **Original review: I use my Tablo almost daily and the iPad app is the worst one out of my 3 devices. I have minimal to no issues with my Pixel phone and my Nvidia Shield TV. Maybe it’s a limitation of iOS compared to android but I’m not so sure. The iPad app forgets where you left off in a recorded show so it starts from the beginning and there is no way to fast forward to a specific time until it buffers the entire show. And then you start watching and the show stops buffering with 20 minutes left with no way to continue so you have to start all over again. Also, the way recorded shows are displayed is annoying. There is no way to select a specific season so if you have 14 seasons of a show recorded it has the newest season at the top and oldest at the bottom. This requires scrolling allllll the way down to the bottom. Who watches a show in reverse order?? However the execution is very poor for some very basic features. App is missing Picture in Picture so you have to leave app open to watch anything. This is super annoying. App does not prevent phone from locking when airplaying, and if phone does lock airplaying is paused. Also super annoying. Phone locks if video buffers for too long. Annoying Streams sometimes just randomly stop every 2 minutes. Annoying. Streams ransoming just don’t star. Annoying. This app is so close to being great but is so flawed that it ends up being aweful. ### 3/5 — Needs background capabilities and more *2023-12-04, version 2.4.1* It works fairly well, but needs a couple of things fixed. First, it needs background capabilities. I hate restarting an hour long show because this app decides to restart when I briefly do something else on my phone. Second, it needs the ability to remember where I stopped watching during my last session, like the Roku and Apple Tv versions do. Ex: 43 min into a 60 min show. Third, the playback volume is always very low compared to every other app on my phone. Some bluetooth speakers need to be turned up all the way in order to barely hear playback. ### 2/5 — Does not work with Apple tvOS 17 *2023-11-03, version 2.4.1* Could not figure out why I could watch Tablo Live TV and Recorded TV using my older Apple TV in the bedroom, but not using my newer Apple TV4K in the living room. After trying several resets and deleting and reinstalling the Tablo legacy app, I realized (thanks to the other reviews) that the problem is that my older Apple TV is simply not able to update to tvOS 17 because it is too old and that is why the Tablo works fine on that TV. My newer Apple TV4K is in fact running tvOS 17 and will not allow me to watch more than 23 seconds of live or recorded shows with out stopping, trying to buffer and then just cutting to a grey screen altogether. Wow, this is not Ok!! I probably haven’t even been a customer for more than 5 months and was previously so happy with this company. Not sure I will continue to be a customer and I certainly won’t recommend Tablo if this isn’t resolved soon. ### 2/5 — Does not work well on IPhone *2023-10-29, version 2.4.1* Slow to load with lots of pixelation. Guide is locking up when you scroll half way through. Doubt it will be fixed because they’re focused on the 4th gen Tablo for every platform except Apple TV, and it looks like the 3rd gen is going to be abandoned. Might be time to get something else if Apple TV is not going to be supported anymore. ### 2/5 — Not compatible with iOS 17 on the Apple TV 4K *2023-10-15, version 2.4.1* The 10 second commercial skip feature hangs after a few depresses. The workaround seems to be go forward as many skips as you want but then make sure to skip back one. ### 3/5 — Huge bug in the Legacy tablet app on my Apple TV. After the Apple TV updated to tvOS 17.0. *2023-09-26, version 2.4.1* Last Monday and Tuesday, September 11 12. My Apple TV. Updated to the latest version. Of tvOS tvOS 17.0. Space now there’s a huge bug or huge major issue in the Tablo app on the Apple TV. Under live TV. Space when I scroll through the channel. . when I scroll through halfway through the channels. The screen locks up. And I have to go to the Apple TV settings. And do a restart. Then go back into Tablo. And scroll down halfway through my channels. Enlighten me and the screen locks up. It does it every single time. So that’s why there’s a major bug. And live TV. On tvOS 17.0. This needs to get fixed and update.. last Friday. The 22nd whatever that would be I called in and talk to Terrik. He suggested I take it home. Try it on my home network and see if it did or not same issue. Also, I deleted the app. Like he said Vi didn’t Saint issue didn’t fix it. So I emailed my mom help me email on Saturday. Doug legacy tableau needs to be updated for tvOS 17.0. please fix the legacy tablet app for the Apple TV. ### 4/5 — Great App! *2023-09-11, version 2.4.1* It’s simple and it just works. Does what I need it to. Love the remote connect feature so I can watch while on the road. Event parents are able to use it with ease. There are some hiccups, but nothing a little trouble shooting can’t fix. You have to refresh the channel line up EVERY TIME you leave the App. It doesn’t load full line up, you can’t view anything about system or provide account information. It’s been 3 days and still cannot connect Tablo. ### 1/5 — Absolute JUNK tuners *2023-06-30, version 2.4.0* Tablo dual I have gets about 33 local channels on scan. A few have buffering issues. Connect the same antenna to mid range Hisense. About 45 with a few having issues. Device needs rebooting at least once a month. ### 3/5 — Voiceover in the tableau app on my Apple TV *2023-06-24* This app. For the most part works with voiceover on my Apple TV. It reads all the screens. I voiceover, except for the channel guide. I did contact Apple about this. And they said it’s on your end. In the channel guide. It reads the channel numbers and name. But voiceover does not read the current show. Upcoming shows. Also.. also. I had the same app. On my iPad. And the Tablo app on iPad. Indict reads the current show and upcoming shows. With voiceover. So it is on your end. Repeat I did contact Apple about this. And he told me it’s on your end. Please fix I did contact Support about this a lot of times. The IOS app has always been terrible. It rarely works and I have to reboot the offending tablo delete the app and reinstall. This works for one or two weeks then rinse and repeat. Very disappointed - I like Tablo a lot and have been with them for a while. Now have to look for other options. :( ### 1/5 — Does not support iOS 17 *2023-11-17, version 2.4.1* I use my Tablo 4 tuner DVR often and love the dvr function and ability to stream OTA TV to all my screens at the same time. While Tablo is quirky and I’ve had to deal with odd guide issues, overall it has worked very well and tied with $25/mo Philo has been way better than paying for cable. Unfortunately with the latest iOS 17 the Tablo app no longer functions properly. Last week my Apple TV devices upgraded and now the Tablo app locks up. I went to BestBuy and purchased the new Tablo device only to find out it does not support Apple TV’s. So both my Legacy and new Tablo do not work with my Apple TV’s.. The android apps have a way to select a season and a “watch next” button to start where you left off. ### 5/5 — Legacy Tablo 3rd gen dvr 2025 honest review *2025-02-13, version 2.4.1* i own the 3rd gen tablo 4 tuner so i can record 4 shows at once tablo allows you watch live tv + record you will need antenna with high mile range the difference between 3rd gen and 4th 4th gen has internet channels as a bonus feature and loads faster what makes gen 3 better option is TABLO anywhere you have to toggle on in the settings of legacy tablo app this will allow you to access your 3rd gen tablo from any 4G or 5G connection such as Live TV+recordings i get like 30 channels in my city i recommend this device for those leaving cable once you own tablo there is no fee ### 5/5 — Amazing performance for the price *2023-11-25, version 2.4.1* I went from paying over $110 per month for cable with Comcast to $4.99 for free OTA with Tablo. Yes, Comcast DVR is better but not $105 better. Only issue is streaming remotely while a program is still recording can have some latency and buffering issues, but for $4.99 per month can’t really complain. I get 80% of my programming and functionality vs Comcast for 4.5% of the cost. Very easy to set up too. Tablo reported that they are working on getting their legacy dvr’s on their new app which has zero subscription fee! ### 5/5 — Still crummy. Company ignores complaints. *2023-02-27, version 2.4.0* Tablo has been my TV solution since it was released in 2014. Nearly 10 years of very buggy, unreliable code, combined with denial and dismissive support. Best player platforms are Apple TV and Amazon Fire. Worst are Roku and iOS. 4 stars for Apple TV and Amazon Fire. 1 star for Roku and 3 for iOS. Keep hoping for bug fixes. Many releases and updates but still FILLED with problems and weak basic reliabilify. Scrub / scroll of time line in iOS and Roku is just awful. ### 5/5 — SUPER, à conseiller. *2022-11-18, version 2.4.0* Fonctionne très bien, j’ai acheté le Tablo quad plus 1T et cette application me permet d’enregister 4 canaux en même temps, en plus le disque de 1 T permet d’enregister 700 émissions. Vraiment formidable. Je me suis abonné au guide (description en français) pour une année, environ $63.00 Can. par année , ce qui me permet de consulter toutes les émissions et enregister sans me casser la tête, fini les factures de cogeco, bell ou videotron qui augmentent chaque mois, les mêmes postes sont gratuits, pourquoi payer, il me faut seulement une antenne extérieure ou au grenier et un fournisseur internet, la qualité d’image est incroyable. Je peux regarder les émissions sur ma tablette ou téléphone grace au wi-fi. Aller voir les infos sur leur site pour les recommandations et facilités . Reste au développeur du produit d’ajouter le français comme autre langue d’utilisation, ils en vendraient beaucoup plus au Québec, car nous avons des tours émettrices. We purchased the Tablo Quad and last night (9/192022) recorded the ABC/ESPN NFL game, 911, and Quantum Leap all coming in from our outdoor TV antenna and it worked perfectly. We have four TV’s and use the Tablo channel on Roku to watch which connects the Tablo to those Roku’s.
