### 3/5 — Started slow became great and now no support

*2025-08-20, version 2.1004*

I really liked this game when it first came out. It was fun to play and being a fan of the Legendary Marvel physical game made this a great alternative. To bad they don’t support this anymore and more updates to keep the game fresh

### 4/5 — Update

*2025-07-26, version 2.1004*

If there’s still support for this game, you need a way to gain points other than healing wounds.

### 2/5 — Progress not saving

*2024-11-23, version 2.1004*

Was super excited to play! Ended up playing the first level of the campaign twice to find out the progress isn’t being saved :(

### 4/5 — Raids

*2024-06-25, version 2.1004*

Enjoy the game how do you know what dates and times raids will be hosted?

### 2/5 — Buggy ui at times - Loop in Durrissa Campaign

*2023-01-28, version 2.1004*

I originally purchased this, then it changed, and I lost interest. I picked it up again, and was enjoying campaign despite some ui annoyances like the screen getting blocked when you try to view empty discard.

But now I’m on a level in campaign where Durissa continually pulls cards, so I can’t even play, much less when. So that’s a game breaker unfortunately. I was enjoying it till this buggy level.

### 4/5 — Love this game

*2023-01-27, version 2.1004*

I love this game- my only wish is that more people were into it

### 4/5 — Helps Learn to Play the Game

*2022-12-06, version 2.1004*

I downloaded this game in order to confirm how to play legendary card game with actual cards. It did not disappoint. For a relatively small price point you can play many games that get increasingly difficult and help teach strategy. I also love that you can play other people, more specifically you can challenge friends. I only marked it down because even when playing alone, it frequently loses connection. There have been times when I have to completely get out of the game and come back. But the fact that it brings me back to where I left off makes it a small annoyance and nothing horrible. I love this game.

### 4/5 — Fun start

*2022-06-13, version 2.082*

Enjoying it so far.

### 4/5 — Cool deck-building system

*2022-04-03, version 2.082*

Should be easier for unlocking updates without having to pay :(

### 4/5 — Legendary app

*2022-03-23, version 2.082*

Wish it had the marvel heroes

### 3/5 — Good but buggy

*2022-01-11, version 2.082*

To many times it has locked up and made me restart the game or cost me my turn. Waited till the end of my timer for my coop partner to make a choice that it did not show they had. Then it ended my turn while I was still at the waiting screen and could do nothing. Luckily I have not spent any real money nor will I.

### 2/5 — Great Game, No Content

*2021-11-06, version 2.082*

So I’ll say first and foremost, I am a huge fan of the Marvel Legendary Deck Building Game. I own every expansion that is available at the time of this review (yes even the Villains and Fear Itself expansions) and I have played several hundred hours of the board game. I will be using words specific to the Legendary franchise, so if you have never played before, it may be a bit harder to follow along.

I was excited when this hit the app store as the main problem everyone knows with the physical game is it does take quite a bit of time to set up a new game and clean up afterwards. This seemed like a great way to skip all that and play some Legendary when I was short on time or on the go.

However, playing this game has highlighted some of the problems I had with the original Marvel Legendary: specifically, the solo campaign. I play 2 handed a lot, and I was reminded why I prefer this over solo.

The arbitrary scoring system that Upper Deck has doubled down on in this entry really creates a level of frustration that feels so unnecessary for an otherwise enjoyable experience. If you are like me and want to get a “perfect rating” on each campaign level, be prepared for hours of grinding because even if you know the game mechanics inside and out, luck is going to play a large role in whether or not you can get a “3-star” rating. It has never made sense to me why a solo player should lose points for Scheme Twists and Master Strikes, since those are literally just part of the game. It should matter more if the player is able to overcome those challenges and still prevent enemies from escaping. It just never feels good to feel like you are building a great deck, but still get a 1-star rating because “sorry, the game randomly decided to throw 6 Scheme Twists at you back-to-back at the start of the game”.

But the real travesty is that as much as I love the Legendary game mechanics (and believe me I do), aside from the agonizing solo campaign grind, there isn’t much to do. You can set up games with friends, but unfortunately I don’t have many that are interested in seeing a reskinned digital Marvel Legendary. You can play alone with bots, but this grows old rather fast as they just seem to get in the way rather than actually help defeat the Mastermind. I have attempted matchmaking with random players online multiple times, and in about 90 minutes of accumulated queue waiting, I have successfully found a group 1 time. The game has many cosmetic items that are clearly locked behind a pay wall, as they cost a premium currency which you can grind for, but you’ll earn such a pitifully small amount that it is very clear the intended way Upper Deck wishes for you to gain these items. And the worst part? Loot Boxes. Of course loot boxes. And of course, you can always get repeat items so purchasing and grinding for Loot Boxes isn’t even a guaranteed way to get the item you were hoping for.

The last topic I’ll cover is the Raids. They are somewhat fun, offering unique scenarios. Defeat a really tough Mastermind with a specifically chosen set of heroes. However, the goal of the Raid is to do this as many times as possible. So if you want to climb the leaderboards, you will have to repeat this scenario again. And again. And again. And what is the prize for proving you are the…. Person with too much time on your hands? A random cosmetic item. That’s it. And considering it can be something you already own, this whole system just seems like a way to try to “give players something new and exciting” without putting any actual work into doing so.

I’ve been pretty harsh on this game throughout this review but I’ll end by saying this: The Legendary formula is fun. The game itself is great and there’s a reason why the card game has sold so well and still attracts new fans almost 10 years later. But Legendary DXP with all it’s Loot Boxes and lack of actual multiplayer content feels like a stripped-down experience. This might be a great alternative to the physical board game if you have a group of friends who consistently will play this together. But for the solo player such as myself, it doesn’t offer enough to meet the excitement I first felt when downloading the game. I earnestly hope that Upper Deck will remove some of the Loot Box aspects (or at least lower the price to admission), and perhaps find new events to grow a larger multiplayer community.

### 5/5 — Addictive

*2021-10-05*

So addictive :)

### 3/5 — Fair resemblance to the card game

*2021-09-27, version 2.082*

There are a couple glitches that need fixing. The multi-player function may as well not exist.

### 3/5 — Online only?

*2021-08-22, version 2.081*

Please have a paid version for offline bot play.

### 5/5 — Not bad if you like the card games

*2021-08-21, version 2.081*

Will keep A eye on this game and look forward to updates

### 3/5 — Some Issues

*2021-08-03, version 2.081*

I really like the game… but there are some issues. For example when I recruit Assimilate it won’t let me play it to KO another Assimilate card. Unless I misunderstand how to play these cards… most times it won’t let me KO a hero that matches that symbol.

### 3/5 — Gratuit à obtenir, pas à jouer

*2021-07-30, version 2.081*

Pas si mal

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — It doesn’t seem to be supported anymore

*2025-08-24, version 2.1004*

My husband and I really love this game, especially when we’re apart. We play legendary Marvel every day when we’re together. I really wish they would support it again because it’s very frustrating to find things that don’t work. Like raids and to not be able to use it like today and yesterday.

### 1/5 — Connection retry

*2022-08-08, version 2.082*

Cannot even go beyond firs screen. Does not find a connection even though iPad is connected to Internet

### 1/5 — No tutorial?

*2021-07-06, version 2.079*

Title says it all. I have no idea what to do and it doesn’t bother to explain.
Uninstalling.

### 1/5 — Account required

*2021-06-07, version 2.079*

Can’t just use as guest or with Game Center login. Requires registration with Upper Deck.

### 1/5 — Crashes every single time

*2021-01-25, version 2.076*

Game just crashes every time I try to play it. I’ve tried 12 times and each time, it has crashed. Very frustrating

### 1/5 — Great game, great adaptation, technical issues

*2020-07-03, version 2.075*

Marvel Legendary is a fantastic, well designed board game. This is that game including a couple of expansions, but with original art and lore. This conversion to digital format is well done and retains the feel of the original (except the setup and putting away of the physical game; a great benefit of digital). The only problem with the game is the massive technical problems. It is a 100% online game. Often that is fine. More often than it should, it means your solo game will crash when your network hiccups. Right now, I can’t play because the app says an update is required, and the App Store says there isn’t an update available.

### 1/5 — Connection required but failing.

*2020-04-08, version 2.075*

Just installed, can’t connect, can’t play, connection mandatory.

### 1/5 — Crashes constantly

*2019-09-06, version 2.07*

Unable to get into a game without the app crashing, contacted support but no answer

### 1/5 — Good potential but just bad overall

*2019-08-27, version 2.07*

I’m a big fan of legendary so this app is just what I expected. But it turns out to require internet 100% of the time and somehow buggy and laggy 100% of the time. A 10-minute playing includes 5-minute lags. Just bad

### 1/5 — Crashing

*2019-07-19, version 2.069*

I love playing this this game I have the marvel edition at home so I thought I would try out the app but it just keeps crashing and I’m starting to get really angry that it keeps crashing. Seeing how I bought all the expansions as well, so far it’s been a waste of money.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Wow

*2025-07-12, version 2.1004*

Love it

### 5/5 — Addictive

*2024-11-23, version 2.1004*

So addictive :)

### 5/5 — Legendary fix

*2023-11-14, version 2.1004*

Great game, a bit small playing on a 14pro and the energy system is annoying, but other than that I really like it.

### 5/5 — Fun legendary game

*2023-02-11, version 2.1004*

So I love playing the Marvel version of Legendary along with all the others I own (Firefly, Aliens +expansion, Predator, Bug Trouble in Little China…) and I know that some of these are Legendary and some are Legendary Encounters but they kinda play the same.
I have spent a lot of money on Hess physical games and I would PAY just as much to get this version in physical form.
Campaign is tough but figuring out how to beat them is half the fun.
Please continue to make virtual content and I’ll keep buying it!
Thanks for a great Legenday fantasy-ish game.
Bill

### 5/5 — Totally worth it

*2022-11-30, version 2.1004*

I splurged for the starter pack that removes energy ($5), and it was so worth it. The game play is great, graphics are great, plenty of campaigns, good lore. Awesome version. I’m used to the marvel board game version so this is a fun change of pace. Well done!

### 5/5 — Awesome game

*2022-09-18, version 2.1003*

I play from Legendary Marvel to this…

### 5/5 — Best deck builder

*2022-06-21, version 2.082*

Grade A

### 5/5 — Just like the irl card game

*2022-05-15, version 2.082*

Runs smoothly, different forms of gameplay are very fun! In game currency can be hard to come by, but I’ve gotten enough gameplay out of it even without buying expansions, I’m not gonna mind spending a couple bucks on some of the expansions soon

### 5/5 — Amazing!!

*2021-10-23, version 2.082*

Great reskin of a wonderful game!

### 5/5 — Favourite deck building game by far

*2021-10-09, version 2.082*

Love the physical card games of Legendary and Legendary Encounters, I feel this game captures what makes them fun and the resent UI enhancements have improved over earlier versions of the app. Would love to see the licensed content like Aliens and Marvel come over to the app but also happy with the original cards currently in the game.
