### 1/5 — Scam

*2026-08-07, version 9.51*

They auto renew my renter’s insurance without authorization when I have already moved. Totally scam

### 1/5 — What the heck happened

*2026-08-07, version 9.51*

I wanted to see how much pet insurance would cost. Clearly I need to take my business elsewhere. You don’t need to know my house counter materials to give me a pet insurance price!

### 1/5 — Claim open for 4 months

*2026-08-05, version 9.51*

I have had a claim open for 4 months without being approved or denied. This is a terribly slow and inefficient process. I’d encourage you to explore other insurance options to avoid being stuck in a similar position as me.

### 1/5 — 🚨‼️IF YOURE COMPARING PET INSURANCE COMPANIES, READ THIS FIRST

*2026-08-04, version 9.51*

I honestly don’t even know where to begin.

I purchased Lemonade Pet Insurance because I believed that if my cat ever experienced a true medical emergency, I wouldn’t have to choose between saving his life and financially destroying my own.

That day came much sooner than I ever imagined.

Earlier this year, my two-year-old cat, Theodore, began having urinary symptoms.

From the very beginning, nothing about his medical care was ever certain.

Initial imaging raised concern that there might be a bladder stone, but no one could say with certainty whether what they were seeing actually represented a bladder stone or another finding. We were told additional evaluation would be necessary and that surgery would only be appropriate if a bladder stone was ultimately confirmed.

We followed every recommendation we were given.

Theodore was placed on a prescription urinary diet and monitored closely. At his follow-up appointment with our primary veterinarian, we were told there was no evidence of a bladder stone, and his symptoms were believed to be most likely stress-induced Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC).

Like any pet owner, I trusted the medical professionals caring for him.

I genuinely believed we had turned a corner.

Then, without warning, everything changed.

Theodore suddenly became violently ill. He was vomiting, screaming in pain, straining constantly, and when I looked at him, a large amount of tissue from his rectum was literally protruding from his body. It was so severe that I couldn’t even see his bottom anymore. I had never seen anything like it in my life and genuinely thought he was dying.

I completely panicked.

I spent hours calling what felt like every emergency veterinary hospital throughout Marin County and San Francisco trying to find someone who could help him. Many couldn’t take him, others had incredibly long waits, and some quoted surgical costs that were simply impossible for me to afford as a recent college graduate trying to find full-time work.

Eventually, one emergency hospital was able to take Theodore immediately. They diagnosed him with a severe rectal prolapse that required emergency treatment and explained that if they couldn’t successfully reduce it, he could require even more invasive surgery.

During Theodore’s emergency evaluation, they also identified findings concerning for a possible bladder stone. Even then, there were still questions. A few days later, my primary veterinarian performed additional imaging, confirmed Theodore did in fact have a bladder stone, and performed a cystotomy to surgically remove it.

Between both emergencies, my veterinary bills exceeded $5,000.

I simply couldn’t afford that.

My partner stepped in and covered those costs because there wasn’t another option. Without his help, I honestly don’t know how I would have gotten Theodore the emergency treatment he desperately needed. I fully intend to pay him back, but that doesn’t change the reality that I purchased pet insurance so I wouldn’t have to face situations like this alone.

This is exactly why I purchased pet insurance.

Instead, Lemonade denied both of my claims as pre-existing.

I completely understand that pet insurance policies exclude pre-existing conditions. That is not what frustrates me.

What frustrates me is that Theodore’s entire medical journey was filled with uncertainty. Every step depended on new information, additional testing, and the medical judgment of the veterinarians treating him. His diagnosis evolved over time because that is how medicine works.

Yet when Lemonade reviewed my claims, all of that uncertainty seemed to disappear.

Instead, everything was treated as though this had always been one obvious, uninterrupted condition from the very beginning.

After Theodore’s surgery, I obtained additional records from the veterinarian who actually performed the cystotomy. She documented that she was more confident there was not a bladder stone at Theodore’s prior recheck and that the bladder stone removed during surgery had developed over the following several weeks. I submitted those records believing they would meaningfully contribute to the review of my claim.

Instead, I received another denial that largely repeated the same explanation as the first. I was never given a meaningful explanation addressing my veterinarian’s documented medical opinion or explaining why Lemonade reached a different conclusion.

Trying to save my cat’s life while simultaneously fighting with the company I had faithfully been paying every month for exactly this kind of emergency was one of the most stressful experiences I’ve ever been through.

As a recent college graduate navigating one of the toughest job markets in years, I don’t have thousands of dollars sitting around for unexpected emergency surgeries. Pet insurance was supposed to provide peace of mind during one of the worst moments of my life.

Instead, I found myself spending countless hours gathering medical records, writing appeals, contacting veterinarians, and trying to understand why the additional evidence I submitted didn’t appear to change anything.

I’ve now requested formal reconsideration of both claims, and if Lemonade continues to deny them without substantively addressing the additional veterinary evidence, I intend to pursue review through the California Department of Insurance.

I truly hope my experience isn’t the norm.

But based on what I’ve experienced, I cannot recommend Lemonade Pet Insurance.

If you’re considering pet insurance, don’t just compare monthly premiums. Ask yourself how confident you’ll feel if your pet experiences the worst day of their life and you need your insurance company to thoroughly evaluate your claim. Unfortunately, that wasn’t my experience with Lemonade.

If anyone has had a genuinely positive experience with another pet insurance company, I’d sincerely appreciate your recommendation.

### 1/5 — STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY

*2026-07-30, version 9.50*

AI scam! They are not the friendly company they portray to be

### 1/5 — Rip off

*2026-07-30, version 9.50*

Don’t get their car insurance. They tell you one thing and you get billed another. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. Except for renters insurance

### 1/5 — lol

*2026-07-29, version 9.50*

Whoever designed the onboarding UX needs to be fired cuz I could create something better in 2 hours

### 3/5 — Poor connection

*2026-07-29, version 9.50*

Unable to connect while perfect WiFi! Unable once connected to find my policies!!

### 1/5 — Waste of time and money

*2026-07-29, version 9.50*

Had them for about six months and then tried to make a claim and spent another six months trying to justify something that should’ve been easily covered on insurance. Best to just save your money and pay for the bills themselves.

### 1/5 — AI powered scam

*2026-07-28, version 9.50*

The entire app is run by AI including the claims and customer support. I don’t think they will actually pay out for anything, they just collect your money and deny your claim. This is one of the few companies that most places will not accept for renter’s insurance (hmmmm I wonder why). I wasted hundreds of dollars for the months I was “covered” and the claims submission AI was such a nightmare. Doubt I’ll ever see any of that money again, thanks for nothing !

### 1/5 — Happy path only and loses files

*2026-07-27, version 9.50*

Inflexible process, didn’t recognize sent email even though I received reply back acknowledging email receipt. Would not accept link to invoice from vet. Would not accept screenshots of the bill. First they gave me wrong bill print out. You had no option to go back one step then let me submit the correct print out. Painful and inflexible process. Not good UX, appears happy path development only.

I sent these people photos of the vet bill. Now a week later they are telling me they cannot process because they don’t have the file I already gave them. TERRIBLE. Is this just a stall tactic to try to get out of paying what they owe? You can’t reach an actual human to question how they lost the files.

### 1/5 — Find alternatives

*2026-07-25, version 9.50*

They may be good rates but they have shady business practices. They charge you even after you’ve moved without any notification, keep talking in circles asking for documentation, and just seem to be playing games.

I’m so glad I never had to file a claim I can’t even imagine what that would be like if they won’t even give back money they charged in a very old school shady business way.

Check other options I implore you.

### 1/5 — Outrageous prices

*2026-07-24, version 9.50*

Don’t waste your time, they use the excuse of giving you a fixed rate for how many miles you drive but leave out the part that they will still charge you an outrageous amount for just leaving your car on the lot. Go with someone else don’t waste you tile with this joke of a company.

### 1/5 — Buyer beware

*2026-07-24, version 9.50*

Just be prepared, they will do everything they can to connect every treatment and procedure to pre existing conditions. And good luck talking to a real person - everything is handled by genetic bits and general responses, if you get a response at all. I had a claim denied so fast I know a real person didn’t review it, and no one would listen to my concerns or statements. Waste of time and money. Just remember it’s insurance, and they are out to make money on you so they will cover as little as possible. I had a much better experience with MetLife pet.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Abandoned Claim

*2026-08-19, version 9.51*

I have been a multiple policy holder for nearly a decade. I was in an accident, the repairs were approved by Lemonade Metromile, yet proof of payment has yet to be issued. I have been without my car for 8 weeks. No one will call me or the garage back to close out the process.

### 1/5 — Tracking device awful

*2026-08-19, version 9.51*

They are the most expensive insurance company. Extremely greedy!!! They punish you for using car! Be careful!

### 1/5 — Do not use this for pet insurance

*2026-08-18, version 9.51*

0/10 stars if I could rate it that. I’ve been paying for accident pet insurance and they have denied every single claim I’ve put in. Don’t waste your time or money on them.

### 1/5 — What’s the point of insurance if you can’t file claims

*2026-08-18, version 9.51*

I’ve been trying for several days to submit a claim of a recent vet visit. Every time I open the app to create a new claim and sign the “pledge of honor” with a signature, I hit submit and the screen loads forever and does not take you to next steps. What’s the point of insurance if you can’t file claims? I’ve reached out to support twice and have not heard anything back. Unfortunately, the only way to file a claim is through their mobile app and not anywhere else, so I’m in a holding pattern. Please help.

### 1/5 — Not impressed

*2026-08-17, version 9.51*

Not easy to file invoice. Everything I heard this was so easy. It wasn’t. Wound up bypassing the app and sending it via email. The Ai assistant tried helping.

### 1/5 — No cars ??!

*2026-08-17, version 9.51*

It said it found my car but wouldn’t show it to select, therefore I couldn’t continue

### 1/5 — Do not recommend

*2026-08-14, version 9.51*

My wife purchased an auto insurance policy for me and her covering both our cars. When I try to access the policy I am told I have to pay separate.

### 1/5 — HORRIBLE!

*2026-08-12, version 9.51*

Broke Their Own Promise on Where Claim Money Goes

I'm an Ohio policyholder. I had an approved theft claim for $1,340.14. Here's what actually happened.

Lemonade's own Theft Claim Guide says: "You'll be asked to enter your bank account information, so we know where to send the money if your claim is approved." That prompt never happened. Instead, their system silently grabbed a bank account from a completely different, closed claim that belonged to another person on the policy — an account I never knew was stored, never authorized for this claim, and never saw anywhere in the app.

The money never reached me or my SSA representative payee. When we asked for a simple paper check or redirection, we got told no. We've asked repeatedly for proof of where the money actually went — an ACH trace number, a transaction record — and received nothing verifiable, just informal email statements. Meanwhile, their own manager had put in writing months earlier that the payment would go to the correct account. That was ignored. A stop-payment was promised, then never documented.

This isn't about coverage. They approved the claim. This is about an app and backend that reroute approved payouts without asking, then refuse to fix it when the insured never receives a dime. If you use this app, do not assume your bank info is current. Do not assume the prompt will appear. And do not assume they'll correct an error their own system created.

I've had to file with the Ohio Department of Insurance just to get this addressed. Disabled users, SSA payee account holders, and anyone with a shared policy — be extremely careful.

### 1/5 — Worst Experience- Avoid

*2026-08-12, version 9.51*

This company is the biggest scam! Do yourself a favor and avoid at all costs. Got pet insurance through them after being recommended by a friend, worst decision ever. Shortly afterwards my dog started experiencing GI illness symptoms and was later diagnosed with IBD after a several month process and work up period. They refused to cover anything, claiming it was “preexisting” since was documented he has a history of soft stools. Yes?! What dog doesn’t have a history of diarrhea at some point in the past, and regardless it was completely different GI symptoms he was having (constipation/abdominal pain). All the vets I saw for this agreed it was not preexisting and should be covered, they ever wrote appeal letters to that effect. Company completely disregarded them. They have people with no background in medicine or veterinary look over all these claims. They took months to reach an initial decision, and couple more months for appeals process. The contact person for my claim was downright rude and condescending, horrible experience and this company should be ashamed of themselves.

### 1/5 — They scammed me

*2026-08-11, version 9.51*

Bad company

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Just WOW.

*2026-08-19, version 9.51*

Hate talking to AI? Too bad! They get the job done over here!! Highly recommend for really anyone but especially younger people who prefer the convenience and consistency of a dedicated app! First time getting renters insurance, didn’t need it long, honestly a breeze.

### 5/5 — $11K Surgery Claim Covered Without a Hassle

*2026-08-12, version 9.51*

I was hesitant to get pet insurance, especially a full-coverage plan, but I’m so glad we did. When we got our puppy, we decided to go with Lemonade’s full coverage, which was about $1,400 for the year. They covered her routine checkups and vaccines up to the annual limits, which was already great.

Then, at just four months old, our puppy had an accident, broke her leg, and needed surgery. The entire ordeal ended up costing around $11,000. We were incredibly stressed and honestly expected that getting such a large claim covered would be a fight, or that we’d somehow end up paying most of it ourselves.

Instead, the process could not have been easier. All I had to do was upload the invoice from the vet, and within two days, Lemonade approved the claim, covered the full 80% stated in our policy, and sent the payment directly to me. There was no back-and-forth, no requests for endless additional documentation, and no hassle at all.

Having a puppy unexpectedly need major surgery was stressful enough, and I’m incredibly grateful that dealing with her insurance wasn’t another source of stress. The whole experience gave me so much confidence in our decision to get pet insurance, and I’m so relieved we chose Lemonade.

### 5/5 — So easy

*2026-08-06, version 9.51*

### 5/5 — The best insurance!

I use their rental insurance policy, and it is fantastic. It’s well priced, and when my car was broken into, they covered it with no tricks or gotchas.

### 5/5 — Wow.

*2026-07-02, version 9.49*

I recently signed up for Lemonade pet insurance… I’ve had insurance with MetLife via my company for the last two years and not once did they ever pay a claim.
I changed companies and decided to try Lemonade for pet insurance; I made my first claim today and it’s already been paid
Wow
I am now going to be looking at using Lemonade for car and homeowners insurance
Wow, wow, wow.

### 5/5 — Excellent!

*2026-06-08*

### 5/5 — A Life saver!!

*2026-05-19, version 9.44*

Full coverage is $30 a month less than my old car insurance! App is easy to use, I’m so thankful they offered coverage in Indiana!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

### 5/5 — I love it

*2026-05-09, version 9.44*
