### 5/5 — Too fantastic to be free

*2024-01-07, version 2.7.2*

If you know Photoshop, you can do anything with this. That it's mobile is beyond amazing.
I'm glad it's free, but can't figure why it is. It's that good. I use it every day on an iPad, and it's why I no longer bother with my desktop or laptop. The more you know, the more you'll get out of it. It's got layers, pro tools, effects, filters, press tools, and an astoundingly small footprint. My biggest fear is that a big competitor will buy and bury it like they've done with so many innovative apps they couldn't beat.
PS I *think* it’s the best app for photo editing, but I never looked at any others after I found it.

### 5/5 — I STILL LOVE IT !!! 😍

*2023-12-03, version 2.7.2*

This app is still super awesome and more advanced than much newer editing apps. It was way ahead of its time as far as removing backgrounds and adding layer effects etc. I do have Superimpose X. I love it too. But this is still my comfort zone go-to. I find myself in this app more than anything else I have on my 12.9 iPad Pro including Affinity products. I hope the Superimpose team continues to produce their high quality line of software. They really do make my iPad a Pro device. I also have the incredible Superimpose V, which is currently blowing away any video editor. I wish they had more representation in the art world on YouTube etc. They are being sorely overlooked. I can’t live without them lol.

Thank you to the devs for such awesome software. Definite staples on my iPad.

### 3/5 — Eigentlich ganz cool

*2022-12-11*

Ganz cool, ein Problem: Man kann nur Fotos bearbeiten. Wer also denkt dass man auch Videos bearbeiten kann sollte es sich nicht kaufen. Sonst echt in Ordnung. Es steht halt bei Kategorie Fotos und Videos

### 5/5 — The best app of its type

*2022-06-11*

The interface is incredible. Some say it's outdated, but I say that I don't understand what outdated has to to with anything. A powerful app like this, that can do so much, so easily, should not be belittled with foolish criticisms. Would you prefer a fancy app that is hard to master and that has less capabilities, then get it.
I prefer easy to use and powerful to trendy. It's up to you.

### 4/5 — Make two in one

*2022-05-31*

Please combine Leonardo and SuperimposeX in one App. This Booth App‘s are Great, but together the best in Store. Please make it. Sorry vor my Bad english.

### 3/5 — Turn off stock photos, Not Wanted

*2022-05-21, version 2.7.2*

Pinned to top of photo library access. Much too easy to click on. I would like to opt out of this.

### 5/5 — Simple and easy

*2022-02-27*

Sure, there’s a few things that could be improved or added, but this is one of the simplest and easiest apps for photo editing. The learning curve is a fraction of what is required from other apps. Don’t expect a high end product, but expect a great and easy-to-use app that you can use within minutes. Have used this now for about 4-5 years!

### 2/5 — I guess the free version resolution is still crippled beyond usefulness

*2021-12-20*

Used to be great but with only one resolution available, “small”, since an update a few years ago, everything imports horribly low res. I’m assuming this is just on the free version to get users to upgrade. But it renders it completely useless. Plus, as mentioned, merge down function has been broken for ages. Merging layers from layer opacity adjustment menu deletes bottom layer. You can leave that and flatten, which works, but if you don’t want to flatten all layers you’re out of luck. Dev never responded to email. Oh well. In the trash.

### 4/5 — good program

*2021-12-17, version 2.7.1*

good editor

### 4/5 — How do I fix this?

*2021-06-29, version 2.7.1*

Hi. This is a great app that I used to use for some photo editing. I just downloaded it on my new phone and I was excited to use it but for some reason every time I add an image, it’s quality becomes very poor. It didn’t do this before. How do I fix it?

### 5/5 — Cat

*2021-06-03, version 2.7.1*

This is amazing app. I keep learning more every time I use it! Thanks!

### 4/5 — Very good editor

*2021-05-29*

I borderline on 5 or 4 stars because this is almost a perfect graphics editor. For the price, it is the best app I’ve found. I’ve used it to create multiple collages, put fire into my fireplace, create funny picture edits for my kids, and more. Tools available are so much like Photoshop and I can do it all from my iPad.
Things that would make this a perfect score: ability to have more layers (it maxes out somewhere above 20 so who needs 20 separate layers, but I did last week in a massive collage. I tried to work around the layer issue with merge down but it is a quirky merge or I just don’t understand it.
Also, the ability to move part of an image seems basic but I can’t figure out how to float the selection and move part of a layer elsewhere or better yet make a new layer out of the selection. A workaround I have is to duplicate the layer and crop it to the piece that I want.
Very extremely cool app! Thank you! I needed something with the power of GIMP but on an iPad and I’ve used this now for 2+ years and love it.

### 5/5 — Best app

*2021-05-25*

I’ve used this app for years for multiple sports accounts on Instagram and have had work reposted by NFL and NBA players and teams. This app is easily the best editing app on the App Store and way better than SuperImposeX, so I just wish they would focus on this app more. I used this app on an IPhone 6s for almost 3 years and had no problems, but when I updated to an IPhone XS the screen gets all blurry when you’re using the app. This app is amazing so I just wish they would fix this! They haven’t updated it in over a year so maybe it just doesn’t work with this type of phone, but I really wish they would fix this bug so I could get back to using it the way I used to. But definitely worth the money!

### 2/5 — Please help!!

*2020-06-17, version 2.7.1*

I’ve been using this app for years. But now, whenever I export a photo it completely makes the photo blurry! Nothing is fixing it. I deleted the app and reinstalled and yet it’s the same thing. I have the I phone XS. This shouldn’t be happening...please fix

### 2/5 — Bad exports

*2020-05-28, version 2.7.1*

When ever I export a photo with cloning it usually glitches the photo and ruins all the cloning, the only way around this is taking a screenshot of it before exporting it but then it makes the quality so so bad very pixelated

### 5/5 — Sehr gut

*2020-05-11*

Absolut Perfektes Tool.Und kein Schwergewicht von der Größe.

### 4/5 — Great Overall App Besides Crashes

*2020-02-16*

The app is everything you’ll ever need for mobile editing, its fills basically all your needs. My only problem is when I wanna adjust an old project the app always crashes.

### 4/5 — I don't need Photoshop on my PC anymore!

*2020-02-01*

Need update for importing the PSD files. It crash in import

Yep this app is so great that I don't use photoshop unless I need 16MP or above multi layers photo edit. It is great for intensive edited 8MP photos. I knocked 1 star because some tool have bug and operability issues that can be improved.
The user interface is great for the mobile screens even for the SE, love the brush remain the same screen size when you zoom in or out.
Keep up the good work!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Was a good app...

*2021-04-03*

... But now the dev has just left it for dead. I paid for this app, and it’s always been buggy. Now, I can’t even crop a photo before the app crashes. The bugs never really went away, either. One gets fixed, and two new ones appear.
... So then comes Superimpose X, and Leonardo gets written off.
I’m considering buying Superimpose X, but I have a feeling it’ll also be buggy, and then it’ll be forgotten about when “Hyperimpose X” gets released.

I’ll need to look at other apps. I’m not convinced that this dev has any care about his customers. Though, I think that’s a standard feature on App Store.

### 1/5 — não funciona..

*2020-09-07*

..no IOS 11 pra cima

### 1/5 — Help

*2019-12-09, version 2.7.1*

My quality is so bad when I use this app I use to love it it shouldn’t be bad I have the I phone x please help please

### 1/5 — App doesn’t mention that it has upgraded version

*2019-11-19*

App doesn’t mention that it has been upgraded to another app and prompts to download that app. Cheaters.

### 1/5 — Finished app

*2019-07-09*

Photo import all blurry now.... a bit dull. I think the developer has killed the app to encourage you to buy his new one. Shame as this used to be fairly good. So don’t waste your money.

### 1/5 — Put your clients first!

*2019-04-14, version 2.7.1*

I haven’t used the app yet. But as soon as I opened the app, I get prompted to upgrade to a better version of the app. Another $5! GIVE THAT OPTION BEFORE I PURCHASE THE WATERED DOWN VERSION FOR $5!!!

### 1/5 — No longer updated

*2019-03-23, version 2.7.1*

I’d used and loved this app for years, but there appears to be no support for more recent iOS devices (and it hasn’t been updated in many months). More to the point, the iPhone XS can only import/export photos at the app’s lowest possible resolution, which means that it no longer serves any practical purpose for me.

### 1/5 — Disappointed highly

*2019-03-03*

Absolutely useless app

### 1/5 — Crashes too much

*2019-02-21, version 2.7.1*

Lately,
I’ve been having problems with this app and crashing. I would start a project and leave it unfinished for another time. Later on, when I come back to finish, on the home screen, it shows half of the project thumbnail with the other half being completely transparent. When I try opening the project, it immediately crashes. This needs to be fixed.

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2018-12-29*

I want my money back.....

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Too fantastic to be free

*2026-05-05*

Crank up the star rating to 11 for Leonardo Photo.
You can do virtually anything with this. That it's mobile is beyond amazing. I'm glad it's free, but can't figure why it is; It's that good.
Also, many times Apple has removed features or made programs unusable with its updates, and I would be in some sad trouble without Leonardo, so I have this on a dedicated iPad that I never update.
PS I *think* it’s the best app for photo editing, but I never needed to look at any others after I found it.

### 5/5 — Love This App to Death

*2026-03-08, version 2.7.2*

Been using it for nearly ten years now, not even joking. It’s my best kept secret - so powerful yet lightweight - and for free. The only thing I wish it had was a color picker. Aside from that, however, I have nothing but praise.

### 5/5 — Go to app for editing

*2025-11-02*

This app is absolutely legendary, and I use it for all of my photo editing. I create video thumbnails and all of my graphics using this, and I can avoid more expensive and complex editing softwares because this app has everything that I need

### 5/5 — best editor

*2025-09-20, version 2.7.2*

Does everything you want and need. User interface is straightforward and smart.

### 5/5 — Eine super App

*2025-08-05*

### 5/5 — 5/5 for me

*2024-08-21, version 2.7.2*

Been using this app as a graphic designer for the past 7 years and have 0 complaints.

### 5/5 — GREAT! Alternative to Photoshop!

*2024-07-04*

I’ve been searching for a replacement to Photoshop Mix for weeks. This app is great. Definitely worth it for what I do. I needed a “simple” app to layer photos - so I can overlay them on each other and also cut out. This app is very intuitive, not overloaded with extra features, does what it says it does. I would pay double for it. Please keep this app functional, it is a HUGE relief. I did not want to support Ad0be because they discontinued their app support and forced users into a paid subscription, overloading the app with AI and other unnecessary features. I have been a loyal Photoshop user for 20 years but I will not support them any more. This app does not disappoint. It has convenient features at the touch a finger. Thank you so much.

### 5/5 — Should be Included with every iPad!

*2024-05-15*

Update: one of my favorite image editing apps BUT it is filled with bugs and features that don’t work the way they’re supposed to. Sometimes I have to take a screenshot of my completed image because when I save the image correctly, it doesn’t look anything like it does while editing!
———————————
Older review: I'm giving a new review since Leonardo is now os10 savvy and I recently got a iPad mini 4. I mention the two items together because the mini 4 has replaced much older iPads I had and it has a far better camera than the older iPads... but though the camera is quite good, it's still far from perfect. This is where Leonardo comes in. It is the perfect complimentary app to quickly and drastically improve the iPad's photos. It works so perfectly/easily tweaking the iPad images that it could be considered the defacto photo app for this device. The quick results are so impressive that I am getting far better looking images than phones which include superior cameras. If it only had a batch setting, this would be beyond ideal! ------------- Original write up... 'Near Perfect Image App' Though it lacks a few features which I have to revert to another app to utilize, Leonardo has such a huge assortment of professional image editing options, it has become the final defacto app for completing image edits. Puts Adobe's iPad arsenal to shame.

### 5/5 — Don’t

*2024-03-07*

Hi is it possible to add fonts to the app? If so how is it done on iOS?

### 5/5 — Works again

*2024-01-27*

Once again an amazing app now that it installs.

I’ve been using this for years and it’s the best app for quick mockups of ideas or taking you time for a great final product.

Well done 👍
