## What is Lernlang?

Most language apps start you at "hello" no matter how much you already know.

Lernlang gives you a two minute placement test first, works out which words
you already have, and starts you from there. After that it teaches the most
common words before the rare ones, because the first 1,000 words in a language
cover around 80% of everyday conversation.

Spanish, French, German, Mandarin Chinese, Russian and Portuguese. Pick one or
work through all six.

I was interested in this to help expand my vocab. I am somewhere B2 and C1 in French. The placement test was extremely rudimentary, asking random vocab questions then placed me in B1. After taking that small ding to my pride it told me I had to subscribe to actually start there. I don’t even know if I like this app and I won’t be able to because I’m not sitting through Je = I on my phone between my actual French classes.

**Developer response:** Hey, thanks for the feedback, and sorry about the frustrating experience.

The placement test is intentionally a little conservative so it doesn’t skip essential vocabulary you may still want to learn. The questions come from different points in the French frequency list to estimate where you should start.

In your case, though, there’s another issue. The experience level selected before the test currently limits how high the placement result can go. That limit is too restrictive for more advanced learners, which is why you were placed in B1. I’m raising it in the next update.

I also agree that you should be able to experience the app at your actual level before deciding whether to subscribe. I’m working on making that experience better as well.
