The developer is a favorite, Ross McNamara, whose ultraminimalist games Logic Grid Puzzles and Cryptograms have kept me continually entertained for the three years since I first downloaded them.❤️ While I always thought Letter Box 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘥 pretty, I didn’t think it’d hold my attention. I was wrong. By Day Two, when the offer popped up to buy all kajillion puzzles (current AND future, for a very reasonable 99¢), I was absolutely ready to own it. It’s clever and fun, and challenging right from the start. So many of the better, mega-level games take FOREVER to get challenging (WordBrain and Har•Mo•Ny, for example) — so this is one of my happiest things about Letter Box. The artwork is LOVELY, the sounds — DIVINE. It’s a wonder this is created by the same dev as Logic Grid Puzzles, which is aesthetically just a teensy step up from traditional pencil-and-paper versions (Ross’ highly amusing writing is what sells that game). The sounds remind me of those beautifully simple, soothing, metallic-mechanical click-whirr sounds you hear working a fishing reel on a placid, mist-laden lake at dawn. I’m seriously in love with this game’s sounds.☺️ …And that’s no small endorsement: Typically, I quickly become annoyed with game sounds and turn them all off forever. I’d enjoy the addition of some nice haptics. Here’s the only glitch I’ve encountered thus far: Once I’d completed my first 4x4 puzzle, the expected achievement popped up — but then, erroneously, so did the 5x5 achievement. Not too shabby as errors go. I do note, however, there’s apparently been no updates in… THREE YEARS??! Happily tho, the app seems to work fine with the current iOS. ⚠️Mssr. Thought I was doing something wrong but couldn’t see a way to get back to the tutorial to check. Also deleted the game. ### 4/5 — Brain drain *2018-10-10, version 1.0.9* It is fun but the 3 x 3 puzzles are more challenging than I expected. That is probably my fault for trying to play at 11 PM. lol ### 4/5 — Fun word game, a tad flawed *2018-07-29, version 1.0.9* This is a neat, simple word game that's similar to filling out one corner of a crossword. For the extra $.99 or whatever I grabbed all the extra puzzles. Perfect game while waiting in line or when you have 2 to 6 minutes to kill. Some minor tweaks would help this game. The grid clicking is a tad too slow, the board of play should be larger - there's no reason it shouldn't stretch the width of the phone screen. I just found one bug worth sharing. In 4x4 mode, puzzle pack 3, board #17 cannot be solved. In frustration I kept clicking more hints until the whole board was "solved" for me. But it wasn't. WHOO isn't a word. The board didn't solve itself; it simply locked in every letter for me and left one row incomplete. Ah well. At least I can click onward to the next board. But that was a frustrating 22 minutes. Still worthy of you $2. UPDATE: I've completed 2/3 of the boards and I LOVE this game. Excellent for any crossword fan. ### 1/5 — Impossible to get solution! *2018-06-02* For every puzzle, only one solution is accepted out of more than 100 possible solutions! You really need to take into account alternative solutions, as currently this game is useless. Another problem is that in its current format, it is either impossible to get the solution or way too easy. There should be some restriction on how you move the letters, ie you can only move letters up or down in the column they are currently in. Needs work! ### 5/5 — Clue Master *2018-01-27, version 1.0.9* Who writes the clues? I’d like to be their best friend! I love logic puzzles and the humor of the clues makes this game delightfully challenging!
