### 2/5 — Drop-down for lessons isn’t working

*2026-03-31, version 2.2.11*

The drop down for picking the current lesson will not stay down on either device we have this on. So we can hardly pick the lesson we need if we aren’t fast enough- please fix this issue!

### 2/5 — hardly works

*2026-02-23, version 2.2.11*

Hardly ever works. We have a hard time getting it to let us select the level and lesson which sucks when you are switching back and forth.

### 2/5 — Okay

*2026-01-20, version 2.2.11*

This app has been essential to teaching my kids their lessons with all about reading and spelling but lately the app has just been a plain white screen. I have to uninstall the app and redownload it each time we use it! It’s starting to get annoying!!

### 2/5 — Disappointing

*2024-06-25, version 2.2.10*

I really wish I did not pay for this app. It causes a lot of frustration as it let you switch out letters fluidly. I wish I had bought the physical letter tiles

### 2/5 — Disappointed

*2024-04-25, version 2.2.9*

This has so much potential and we were excited to use it but the app is so frustrating. It froze on us 9 times during our lesson. Dragging the tiles was clunky, sometimes having to press multiple times to get it to go. Way overpriced for what you get.

### 2/5 — Doesn’t work well

*2023-09-05, version 2.2.3*

When we try to drag the letter tile to the working space, it doesn’t stay. It takes 5-10 tries to move them and have them stay. It was very frustrating for my kindergartener and I.

### 1/5 — So frustrating

*2023-08-21, version 2.2.3*

I just downloaded this app to assist us, as the tiles with both boys have been annoying. This app is not made well. I have just wasted 20 minutes trying to figure it out with the boys. Wasted $20 and will go ahead and use the tiles on the white board again. Don’t waste your time or money!

### 1/5 — Family sharing does not work

*2023-08-13, version 2.2.3*

App Store page states it has family sharing. Purchased app on my iPad and my daughter, who is a member of my family sharing group is unable to download the same app on her iPad without repurchasing the app. Waited a few days and issue persists. Requested a refund soon after.
Gave 1 star for setting incorrect expectations on family sharing.

### 3/5 — Not good

*2023-08-12*

First of all, $20 dollars for an app that does nothing but give you letters to drag is ridiculous! This should cost 5$ max.
Secondly, once past level 1, the word building area is cut off by the letter tiles themselves! You can’t even see the word the child is building!
Thirdly, the child cannot hold on a letter blend to hear if it’s the right blend until it has been dragged to the top. Silly!
Lastly, a child cannot hold the built word to see if it spells what they think it says.
Boo

**Developer response:** I'm sorry you're having trouble with the app. It sounds like you might be using it on a device that's not supported. The issues you are describing with the display are not typical. I recommend requesting a refund through Apple. If you have any questions or want me to look into this further, please contact me at support@allaboutlearningpress.com. ~Merry :-)

### 3/5 — Overpriced and buggy

*2023-06-27, version 2.2.2*

The interface is very difficult for a child (or adult) to use. Can’t believe I paid $20 for this and we spend most of our time trying to figure out how to get the letter tiles to go where we want to put them. Huge distraction from the reading work.

### 1/5 — Do not like the new layout

*2023-06-08*

I know they are working on fixing all the bugs with the update. In addition to all the issues with using the app (tiles don’t always respond to touch, tiles go missing when splitting into syllables, sometimes clears for no reason). However I also really miss the old layout. This app was our go to, and now it’s something I really dread. I have to find the sounds for him, instead of him finding the sounds since they don’t all fit on the screen at once. Please go back to old layout.

**Developer response:** I'm sorry for the frustration! The latest update (2.2.2) released May 15 should make clearing tiles work better for you. The issue with tapping tiles appears to affect only some models--some users report no issues and say it's working great. To help us troubleshoot for your specific model, please email me your model number and the issues you are having to - support@allaboutlearningpress.com. Hopefully, we can get this working better for you! ~Merry :-)

Edited to add--update 2.2.3 should fix any remaining issues. Let me know if you are still having any trouble with the app! ~Merry :-)

### 2/5 — Letter tiles now too large!

*2023-05-23*

Previous version was perfect, and we greatly appreciated the ease of using the app. But the tiles are now so large it’s very cumbersome to use. Please bring back the smaller tiles, or a way to resize them! Thanks!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doesn’t support family sharing

*2025-12-28, version 2.2.11*

I cannot get this app to allow family sharing with my children’s tablets for their school work. I’ve done all the things in our Apple family account and allowed sharing between all of our devices. However it asks me to pay the $19.99 on each of their tablets to allow them access to this app for their school work after I already purchased it on my phone.

### 1/5 — Missing lesson specific tiles

*2025-11-28*

The app does not have the specific phonogram tiles. Example, Level 4 Lesson 30 should have the “ough” tile, and it does not. This is consistent throughout the app. For the price and the purpose of the app it should be perfect. They did a great job with the curriculum but this needs rework.

**Developer response:** Please make sure you have the correct program selected in the dropdown menu. When I checked just now, All About Reading Level 4, Lesson 30 DOES have the ough tile. All About Spelling Level 4, Lesson 30 does not because it hasn't taught it yet for spelling (so, if you chose spelling by mistake, the tile wouldn't show up). If this resolves your issue, we'd love it if you could give us more stars! If it doesn't, please contact us for support: https://www.allaboutlearningpress.com/contact/

We'd love to help you have a 5-star experience! ~Merry :-)

### 1/5 — No good

*2025-10-28, version 2.2.10*

I just spent $20 on a app that apparently is not meant for my phone and that was not clearly stated before we don’t have a tablet to use this on so I just bought it on Apple and have nowhere else I can use it on

### 1/5 — Only works 10% of the time

*2025-10-20, version 2.2.10*

Thuis app is so frustrating. It almost never works. I just get a blank screen. Deleting and downloading again doesn’t help. Force closing doesn’t help. I waste so much time trying to get it to work

### 1/5 — Misleading

*2025-10-03, version 2.2.10*

I purchased this on my phone with the intention to share the app with my two kids who have family sharing , the app itself says it’s shareable with up to 6 family members, but after purchasing it won’t allow to share the purchase….very disappointing

### 1/5 — So Disappointed

*2025-02-13, version 2.2.10*

I bought this 2 weeks ago. We have used the app a few times. Today I could only put one letter in the work area and then it would freeze. I was really hoping for better, but it’s not something I have time to fool with. I have requested a refund. I am so disappointed because I really had high hopes.

### 1/5 — Can’t believe I wasted $20

*2024-07-18, version 2.2.10*

This app is terrible. I can’t even see all the letters on the screen. They are cut off. It looks like the app isn’t made correctly. Would love to “return” it and get a refund.

### 1/5 — Don’t buy it

*2024-05-31, version 2.2.10*

Frustrated in the process of teaching your child to read? This will only make it worse

### 1/5 — Overpriced and frustrating to use

*2023-10-19*

I can’t believe they justify $20 for this. I like not worrying about losing the tiles but that’s about it. It’s frustrating to use. When trying to split words into syllables it should be possible to easily drag half of the word over, but you can’t. You have to pull one at a time and it takes so long that it doesn’t help with fluency. Most of the time I end up ditching the app for a white board. There should be a button to quickly delete the word. This app feels ancient and clunky.

**Developer response:** I'm sorry you're having trouble using the app! See if this "top tips" video helps you move the tiles more easily: https://blog.allaboutlearningpress.com/letter-tiles-app-tips/

Tip 2 shows how to move word parts without having to do them one letter at a time, and Tip 10 shows how to divide words into syllables.

If the app is not performing correctly, please contact me at support@allaboutlearningpress.com and let me know your device type and what version of iOS you are using, and we'll be happy to troubleshoot!

Also, Apple will refund your purchase within the first 90 days if it's not working properly. If you are beyond 90 days but still within the first year, please contact us for help with a refund.

We want to help you have a 5-star experience!

~Merry :-)

### 1/5 — Why is this iPhone compatible?

*2023-08-24, version 2.2.3*

I just bought the app and can’t see any letters once placed on “the board”. Is there a way to fix this? If not please make the app only compatible for iPad, now I’ve spent money on an app I can’t use.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Updated: family sharing

*2026-03-09, version 2.2.11*

Thank you so much for the explanation. I didn’t realize that is how app sharing works. I appreciate the walk through and was able to get it added with no issues!

### 5/5 — Works great

*2026-02-12, version 2.2.11*

Works great after updating iOS. Prior to that it was broken

### 5/5 — Broken- doesn’t work at all

*2026-02-04, version 2.2.11*

Stuck on white screen. Tried reinstalling and on multiple devices

### 5/5 — More convenient than physical letter tiles

*2024-11-05*

I’ve read the most recent reviews and I can see why others may be hesitant to purchase the app, but I have had 0 issues with it and I’ve been using it for 7-8 months now. I use it on an iPad (9th generation) - I can see all the letter tiles and the app has never frozen or given me any issues. I would definitely recommend it over the physical letter tiles - it’s just easier and quicker. Apple does offer a refund if you’re unhappy with it so it’s worth a shot before you purchase the physical tiles.

**Developer response:** Thanks for sharing your experience with the app! ~Merry :-)

### 5/5 — Total game changer

*2024-08-19, version 2.2.10*

This app is amazing and has a total game changer! It’s so much easier than the letter tiles and my son loves using the app. It’s so convenient having the sounds able yo be read aloud and that all the vowel teams and new sounds appear automatically with each lesson.

### 5/5 — Great alternative to letter tiles

*2024-03-17, version 2.2.9*

I 've used this for several years and love this app. So much easier than keeping up with all the files!

### 5/5 — loved the app...but now its missing tiles! UPDATE: it works!

*2023-11-06*

UPDATE: I deleted app, and reinstalled, and now it works again. Hopefully this helps others who are having issues with missing tiles!

We used this all the time as companion to the All About Spelling curriculum, but now it's missing tiles that we used to have before like VCE. Also missing everything from my newest lesson ER, AR, OR, OU, even though I selected the right level & lesson from the drop down. How am I supposed to teach the lesson if the tiles I need are missing??

**Developer response:** Thanks for updating your review! I'm glad it's working correctly for you now. Have fun teaching your kids! ~Merry :-)

### 5/5 — NOT FOR IPHONE! Tablet Only!

*2023-05-22, version 2.2.2*

I am requesting a refund through Apple because this is NOT for use on a phone, but tablet only!

### 5/5 — Great Tool

*2020-05-18*

We Love All About Spelling and Reading and this app is an extremely useful tool with 4 kids and a toddler running around. Customer and tech support are awesome. I contacted them when an update did not work with my devices. They responded immediately and an update was available within just days that fixed my issue, Great company!

### 5/5 — So much easier for me to teach the AAL programs!

*2019-08-09*

I really enjoy teaching reading and spelling again with this app, made especially to compliment the AAR and AAS programs. No more fumbling the tiles! And, since I’m using it with 3 kids, it’s that much easier, since they are all at different levels of the program. I love how I can choose the level and lesson and all the right tiles are presented. After teaching a concept, drag one tile to the top, and the board is cleared! Very much worth the money!
