### 2/5 — Faulty System

*2026-06-08, version 5.7.9*

Playing against a bot works fine... except it's generally unfair because of their unlimited knowledge in vocab. Therefore, you'd have to play with real people to enjoy. However, when you try to play 1v1 with another person, the system does not start a "new" game. Ads pop up and distrupt play time as well, making it difficult to keep other players engaged as many don't want to wait long periods of time for their opponent to respond.

### 3/5 — Advertising

*2026-04-28, version 5.7.9*

The advertising is too much!

### 3/5 — Meh

*2026-04-17, version 5.7.9*

This could be a decent game if they cleaned it up and made some minor changes. First, it CONSTANTLY gets stuck between turns. The only way to continue is to reboot the app. Second, the bot players make up words, like vav, bx, and other nonsense. It played the word “zanja” once, which I looked up and learned is a Spanish word for “ditch,” most commonly used in South and Latin America. That would be fine, if we could all use uncommon words in other languages. Third, I don’t understand why you can’t change color themes or reshuffle the letters! It’s annoying when I’m struggling for a word, and I just want to rearrange the letters, but can’t. And looking at the same board all the time makes the game feel static. It’s still somewhat addictive, but if it keeps crashing, cheating and having the same boring look, I see it getting old, FAST.

### 4/5 — GREAT Game

*2026-04-05, version 5.7.9*

But WAY too many words are able to be played that aren’t in the dictionary. Latest example, “Brotherings”

### 2/5 — So so

*2026-04-05, version 5.7.9*

Surprisingly buggy for a game that costs that much

### 3/5 — Faded memories

*2026-03-16, version 5.7.8*

Maybe my memory of this game isn’t accurate after several years away. I like it. The ads are extremely annoying. The asking price for premium is far more than I would consider paying for such a game.
I’ll go back to staring out the window now.

### 2/5 — Werbewahnsinn

*2025-11-22*

Das Spiel an sich macht Spaß, leider wird bei mir aber jeder Spielzug mit einer Werbeunterbrechung beglichen und daher fliegt es nun wieder runter.

**Developer response:** That is incorrect. An ad does not trigger with each move. Play multiple games at once (try the Bots) and you'll see this is the truth.

### 3/5 — Buggy

*2025-11-01, version 5.7.7*

The 10/28 update introduced bugs. Others have reported some, but most annoying is that the shake-to-rearrange feature no longer works.

### 2/5 — Ad positioning

*2025-09-10, version 5.7.6*

There was a recent update that included ad placement during gameplay. The ad now covers the bottom row of letters so you can’t tell if a letter is an O, C, G or Q, E or F, P or R.

### 4/5 — Generally happy

*2025-08-14, version 5.7.5*

I generally enjoy this game…playing daily with my mom and one friend. My friend is so brain heavy that he started games with me that must remain balanced (a mirror image across any line one chooses), which is a good extra challenge…others might wish to try. The advertisements became just Too much for me after many years and I finally paid for the app…what a relief!

### 5/5 — My favorite game

*2025-08-12, version 5.7.5*

Been playing for over 12 years now. A great strategy game wrapped in a word game. Without a doubt my favorite head to head game ever.
My first goal of impending retirement is to make a weekly leaderboard.

### 5/5 — Best. Game. Ever.

*2025-08-08, version 5.7.5*

I downloaded Letterpress in the before times — probably in its first year — and have played ever since with an old friend from the West Coast. I think, quite simply, it is one of the most perfect two person games ever. It taxes your vocabulary. It requires real strategy. It values foresight. And it tries your patience (oh the number of games I’ve lost because I got greedy and played one tile too many…). And, fundamentally, its design is classic, streamlined, and free of gimmicks. It’s like Scrabble meets Boggle meets Chess!

### 5/5 — Entertaining

*2025-07-25, version 5.7.4*

Played for years. Just love it

### 5/5 — Fun

*2025-07-22, version 5.7.4*

Keeps me thinking

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2025-07-21, version 5.7.4*

Love it! I have met some great people here!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Ruined by bots

*2026-07-03, version 5.7.9*

Used to be when you initiated a new game you’d be playing against a real person. Now it seems Letterpress uses player bots so you’re playing against a machine

### 1/5 — An Ad site masking as a Game.

*2025-09-26, version 5.7.6*

Downloaded “game”, entered one single word and an ad popped up taking over the screen. It’s not a “ game” if it will not allow you to even begin to “play” it.

### 1/5 — Ruined by ads

*2025-09-09, version 5.7.6*

Used to be a fun game. Not anymore.

### 1/5 — Ads

*2025-09-02, version 5.7.6*

I didn’t even get one turn into my first game before a massive add started playing. Not even one game, just one turn .Ridiculous. I deleted it straight away.

In reply to the dev response here. That’s what I said. I had only one turn after downloading and there was an ad. Ridiculous. Way to keep players - stop them after one turn.

### 1/5 — Takes to long

*2025-09-02, version 5.7.6*

Baaaad takes forever for the other players.😒😕🙁😡😡🤬🤬👎👎🙍🏼‍♀️🙎🏿‍♂️🙎🏼‍♀️🙆‍♀️

### 1/5 — Do not spam me for a review

*2025-02-28, version 5.7.2*

If you spam me it will be a 1. No exceptions

### 1/5 — Awful ads, ruin the gameplay

*2025-02-14, version 5.7.2*

Awful ads, ruin the gameplay.

### 1/5 — Ads between every turn

*2024-12-27, version 5.7.2*

Deleted. This isn't a game; it's a billboard.

### 1/5 — Annoying

*2024-10-03, version 5.7.2*

This is one of my favourite word games, but it’s constantly going wonky and i have to keep deleting it and reinstalling it. If I didn’t like the challenge I’d forget it.

### 1/5 — PRESSED BY ADS.

*2024-08-19, version 5.7.1*

While I understand the game and some of the strategy I just can’t get past the POP UP ADS after every other play or so. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. I delete all games that require me to sit through some lame ad for another lame game that I will NOT download EVER. Seems the developers have gone the greed route. I understand wanting to make money on something but the continuous stream of blah blah blah ads that interrupts the game flow are RIDICULOUS. Sorry but not sticking around for this game…yes, it was somewhat challenging….just not a word game for me. I would rather have my fingernails pulled out than have to watch all the ads.

THANKS BUT NO THANKS….BYE BYE.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — My all time favourite

*2026-08-09, version 5.7.9*

Love Letterpress. Keeps me entertained, my mind active and teaches me new words.Enjoy the chat, especially learning about the life of someone else and also what they or I think of a particular move. Well done. I’ve played for years now and just love it.

### 5/5 — Is It Perfection Though?

*2026-08-05, version 5.7.9*

I’ve played this game since paying $4.99 initial download price. I’ve loved playing the game and learn so many new words it’s hard to remember them all.
The concept and layout is perfect and it doesn’t have as high of a brain drain as WFF in my opinion. Something fun to pick up and see your color dominate the board.

I think Solobon should have a top 10 letterpress change forum or voting system to see what are the most requested features and share that on their website. Then implement that change to the app. I think that would encourage some newer players to stick around and legacy players something new to see. My top pick would be new theme color schemes!!

### 5/5 — Fibre

*2026-07-26, version 5.7.9*

A brain tickler at its finest tickle nearly a sexy one.

### 5/5 — Best game

*2026-06-19, version 5.7.9*

Of all games and all my years of playing (yes, I am old!), I always come back to Letter press. It is my absolute favorite game. It uses my brain, it's challenging yet relaxing and players are kind and respectful.

### 5/5 — Neat

*2026-04-21, version 5.7.9*

It’s pretty cool, you can talk with people also. I’ve been playing it for a lot of years. You can also see the definitions of whatever you make a word of.

### 5/5 — Great word game

*2026-04-03*

Minimalistic and fun to play. The game favors the starting player heavily but you get to start about half of the games so it’s okay. After Scrabble was sold to a game company that completely ruined it with power ups and other nonsense this is the best mobile word game out there in my opinion.

### 5/5 — Letterpress

*2026-03-10, version 5.7.8*

I'm addicted to this elegant little game! Limiting the number of days by which a player must respond is a very welcome feature.

### 5/5 — One of the best chilled out games around

*2025-12-11, version 5.7.7*

The iPhone can be a terrible distraction but also a good one too.

There are moments in your life you just want to while away the time.

Read an article, watch a video or play a game.

The issue with some of these things is that they draw you in and become a time suck.

Watch tik tok or YouTube and you’re there for much longer than you intended. Time suck.

You play a tower defence game and you are trying to get more and more and more. Beat the previous high score etc. Again time suck.

THIS game, a bit like the NYT puzzles, is perfect.

It allows you to play your move, a little bit of cerebral thinking (not beyond most people) and leave it alone. You can come back to it a few hours later or an even a few days later. No pressure. Respond back to your opponents move and so on.

It’s leisurely and interesting. Every game is different.

But most importantly it’s not a time suck. It is a stress reliever. A chill out session. It is simple and brilliant.

I love this and I think you will too (especially if you love puzzles and word games).

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2025-11-24, version 5.7.7*

Been playing it for a decade and still love it!

### 5/5 — Great game!

*2025-10-12, version 5.7.6*

Great game!
