## Newest reviews (18 of 60)

### 3/5 — Useful but lacks much

*2025-04-02, version 9.4.1*

This app is great for viewing documents of all sorts (primary, secondary, etc.), however the biggest issue is that it is not fully integrated with Lexis AI (the browser version of Lexis). This means that if you use Lexis on a browser and then come to the app to look at the same documents, then the app will tell you that the Lexis AI documents (the same primary and secondary sources) are “out of plan,” and then forces the user to search that document again using the older interface of Lexis. Likewise, when you view a document on the app and then go to the browser version, the browser version pulls up the old Lexis interface instead of the Lexus AI interface.

In short, this app could be far better if they just integrated it with the browser interface so that there is no disparity between the two, I.e., they need to make the experience between the app and the browser seamless.

### 2/5 — 7 years later same problem as The1Vito

*2022-07-21, version 9.2.3*

Seven years later and they still haven’t fixed the problem.

### 4/5 — Decent

*2021-10-13, version 9.1.7*

I noticed most reviews of the app are from 6+ years ago, but in my experience thus far, its been fine. The app is occasionally slow and there are some basic issues that could probably be fixed or done better, but overall the app gets the job done.

### 2/5 — Loosely functional

*2021-03-21, version 9.1.7*

It’s fine for extremely basic needs, but this app could really be a game changer if it worked smoothly. Lexis is all gloss over a shoddy product. Not unlike WL in that respect. But an optimized Lexis app would put them miles ahead of WL.

I want to click a link and it open a new tab, not redirect me from my current page. I’d like saving a page to a folder to work consistently. I’d like a less obstructive UI. I’d even pay for all of this. But right now, it’s just a crappy web reader.

### 4/5 — Add highlighter colors

*2020-09-02, version 9.1.3*

Currently can only highlight in yellow.
Please add the other colors

### 2/5 — Some critical features missing

*2019-10-01, version 9.0*

This app is nearly everything that it needs to simulate the functionality of the desktop experience.

But there are some significant drawbacks. It makes no sense that you can’t edit search terms after executing a search. Because this is a mobile platform, it is more likely that users will make mistakes entering a search string. Yet if you put together a long search string and one part is wrong, you have to go back and rewrite the entire search string. Inputting search strings is already incredibly cumbersome on a mobile device such as a phone or ipad, and requiring perfection the first time is a real annoyance.

One other problem is that once a search is completed, it is difficult to navigate and work with the results. Navigating between different types of content (cases, secondary sources, rules, etc.) is extremely difficult. In addition, finding and locating filters for the content is also difficult. The navigation is not where it should be.

### 2/5 — Not intuitive

*2019-04-07, version 9.0*

Very difficult to get where you want to go and search what you want to search. Like LexisAdvance on the web, but the app really needs some work.

### 1/5 — I wish they would fix this app

*2018-05-20, version 8.0*

I would use it all the time! I haven’t used it yet to find a case because it crashes whenever I select the client number.

### 1/5 — Frustrating

*2018-03-29, version 8.0*

Frustrating when you have full WiFi and cell bars but it keeps saying no network! How am I supposed to look up cases while being mobile with this thing?

### 1/5 — Immediately Crashes after logging in

*2016-07-12, version 6.0*

Would be great, if I could use it.

### 1/5 — Can't log in

*2015-06-27, version 5.1*

Since the last updates the app is logging me out, and then by some error it would not let me log in again.

### 1/5 — Does not work.

*2015-06-27, version 5.1*

Ive been using this app from I entered law school 3 years from now and is the best. But from the last update, the app isnt recognizing any network connection or it doesnt communicate with the servers of lexis. I already deleted the app and installed 2 times and nothing. Please correct this.

### 2/5 — Frustrating

*2015-02-03, version 4.5*

Really frustrating that frequently (even more frequently to nearly always recently) when switching between apps and keeping Lexis Advance running in multi-tasking then going back to Lexis, the app resets and you have to choose client again and start search all over. When using a case I want to keep, I view the PDF of the case and open it in a PDF application where I can save it and highlight/take notes on the case as I prefer to do. However, it's extremely frustrating to then go back to the app to look at the next search result or Shepard's result only to find I have to start all over again. It's actually caused me to stop working on a search at times because I don't have time to start over again at that time.

They also need to improve the search results to better sift through results. When I bring up a case in the results in a search or after I Shepardize, they should make it so we can just select the next case and not have to go back to the results and open a new tab.

### 1/5 — This thing won't update!

*2014-11-17, version 4.5*

I login, the app tells me to update it, I apparently updated it, I click open in the App Store, re-login to the app, and a message tells me to...update. Fix this!!! It's pure crap now. Wish I could give it zero stars

### 1/5 — Doesn't work

*2014-11-17, version 4.5*

It keeps asking me to update the app, which I have already done.

### 1/5 — Cannot open after update

*2014-11-17, version 4.5*

Can't get past logon screen

### 3/5 — Could be better

*2014-07-04, version 4.0*

It does not remember my login info and it often crashes and exits without warning. Please fix these two issues, thanks. (iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.1)

### 3/5 — Almost, but not quite.

*2014-04-26, version 4.1.1*

Great update but for three issues that really make it a pain to use. Listed in order of declining importance (imho):

1) Seems that we cannot search WITHIN a document we have open.

2) The "Jump To" button doesn't seem to work. This is a big problem when I have opened a huge document and have to scroll through it to find whatever is meaningful. Wouldn't be as big a deal if not for lack of search.

3) It would be nice to be able to change the display font. Verdana or whateer this is looks hideous. Changing line heigh, margin width, etc., would also be appreciated.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Get Westlaw — stay away from Lexis

*2024-11-08, version 9.3.9*

This app is useless. I get better legal research just using Google.

Every time I go to do a search I have to restrict my search to my plan. Lexis keeps making me search their entire database.

I select to filter my search to statutes and instead I get a list of cases.

I tried to use the table of contents, but the titles go off the page and there’s no way to slide them over to read them. What use is it if I get an entire list that reads “19.01” and the rest of the number and description is cutoff? I tried turning my iPhone to landscape but the blank spaces just got bigger and everything was still cutoff at the same place.

I was dumb enough to lock myself into a Lexis contract to save a few bucks. I’m going back to Westlaw as soon as I can.

I was in conference on a case where we had a question that had to be looked up. My opposing counsel found the answer on the Westlaw app while I was still trying to apply the filters to only search New York statutes.

If someone at Lexis reads this, I suggest you pay for a Westlaw subscription and use their app and try to imitate them.

Update 11/8/20224
I think I wrote my review about 3 years ago. This morning, Lexis wrote a response to my review. Wow, way to be on top of things Lexis — you only took 3 years. Just one more reason in the column on why Westlaw is better.

### 1/5 — Vreeland Legal Inc

*2023-08-29*

Hey all!! Vreeland Legal Inc is a new legal resource corporation that is way better than Lexis!! Download the Vreeland legal app and try it for yourself!! You won’t be dissatisfied!!! Only 750 a year for all rules, forms, annotations and more!!!

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2021-11-25, version 9.1.7*

Not well organized or constructed. Don’t let Lexis salesperson tell you this is worth anything. Lexis Advance is a terrible product with login issues and horrible customer service, this app is just an offshoot of that.

### 1/5 — Crashes too often

*2021-04-16, version 9.1.7*

Freezes all the time

### 1/5 — Not intuitive, re-sets, makes work difficult

*2019-09-03, version 9.0*

I use my iPad exclusively for out of the office work. I’m running the current gen iPad Pro, so there’s no lack of power to drive the app. I’m also a huge Lexis fan. But this app is terrible. It resets when you multitask, does not run effectively in the background, hangs when it resets and has to log back in via Face ID requiring you to kill the app (again) and open it like the fragile little egg it is. On top of that its not intuitive in the slightest. It’s far too hard to browse code or regs via sections, when you search for a citation it pops more than one tab attempting to drive you to a lexis summary of the citation rather than the SPECIFIC citation you wanted, randomly kills tabs when you click the the top level search button for a new search, and doesn’t automatically drop a cursor in the search box when it’s opened. About all I like with the interface is the tab function, when it works and isn’t killed. Come on lexis, I know how much we pay you. You can do better than this.

### 1/5 — Lacks certain databases

*2019-08-17, version 9.0*

On this app, I cannot find the person report database that is part of my subscription

### 1/5 — Bad interface prevents use

*2019-01-18, version 8.4*

I am unable to search for cases on this app. When I am typing search terms, the suggestion bar appears in place of the keyboard while I type causing me to hit suggestions accidentally. I attempted to search Fourth Amendment issues surrounding consent. I was unable to finish typing "consent" and never got to the second item of "while intoxicated" or even just "intoxicated." Additionally, because I was unable to finish the word "consent," the suggestions were not useful.

### 1/5 — Buggy and needs improvement to be usable

*2018-12-12, version 8.4*

Crashes, five clicks required to highlight text and highlights fail half the time, highlighting doesn’t stay with the text you marked (!), saving cases to folder takes too long, internal navigation buttons between search filter folders etc make no sense, and many other problems. Okay as a tool to read research, but otherwise frustrating and wastes your time. Lexis, this app needs serious improvements to even be considered an alpha release. Please fix.

### 1/5 — Crashes too much

*2018-10-16, version 8.4*

I try it every few months and it gets better, but it crashes way too much to be usable. They need to focus on the bare minimum of having an app that works before adding features.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work — session times out

*2018-06-01, version 8.2*

So much for all those fancy features of the search engine can’t return results.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — A searching tweak

*2024-12-19, version 9.3.9*

Overall a very beneficial app. Use it all the time. I actually prefer to do my research on the iPad through this app than to use the website on a PC.

Anyway, we would really appreciate it being possible to filter results from all appellate courts within a jurisdiction without individually selecting all courts.

There are many times I’d love to see results from all circuit courts in the United States but not district courts. Plus, my state has multiple independent appellate courts, and I’d like to search for results from all courts without having to specifically select all of them. It just saves time and effort to have this be an option.

Thanks!

### 5/5 — Counsel

*2015-06-27, version 5.1*

Not sure what the point of this app is when you can't even log in. Can't wait until my company's subscription is up so that we can move to a service fit for the 21st century.

### 5/5 — Added features, works great!

*2014-03-30, version 4.1.1*

This latest version works great, and I haven't seen any glitches in it yet. One if the most useful features is the ability to view content as a PDF document, including opening it in Adobe Reader in y iPad, saving it to my local files, or uploading it to google docs or other applications. There is also one-button printing to wifi-enabled printers.

### 5/5 — App Works Great!

*2013-07-26, version 3.8*

Look, there are few things about law practice less than doing legal research. Keeping track of billable hours is the only thing that comes to the top of my mind. The Lexis Advance app may not make doing research all sunshine and lollipops, but it sure does a great job making it easier & more effective. I was able tonight to find a case directly on point to rebut an opponent's argument in about 10 minutes, due largely to how much easier this app makes it to hone in on exactly what I was looking for. Kudos to Lexis for getting it right!

### 5/5 — Excellent app!

*2012-08-31, version 3.02*

Thanks for the new update! It works great! I'm able to email without any problems now. Sounds like some of the other new reviewers might not have installed the update as it was not a forced update this time.

### 5/5 — Incredible Update

*2012-07-16, version 3.0*

There is so much more functionality on this update it's ridiculous. They've added too many features to mention. It almost qualifies as a completely new app. I especially love that when I make notes and highlights on the documents in my folders via the actual website, I can see them in the app. So many new filters too! Amazing app.

### 5/5 — WONDERFUL APP!

*2012-07-05, version 2.0*

I use Lexis Advance and this app everyday. It is simple and gives me access to quick and reliable legal research. PLUS, it has Shepards which is key. I cannot imagine a law student or practicing attorney who would not find this app time-saving and valuable.

### 5/5 — Much better

*2012-02-17, version 1.0.2*

Thanks to the update the app actually functions like it is supposed to. Overall a great app to have in class.

**Developer response:** We appreciate your feedback regarding the service you've received while using the Lexis Mobile app. Our team aims to provide the best products and services for our valued LexisNexis subscribers. Thank you for your business.

### 5/5 — Does not work

*2012-01-24, version 1.0.1*

This App does not work. Needs the bugs fixed

### 5/5 — Absolutely beautiful app for legal research.

*2011-12-07, version 1.0*

Wow. This is amazing.
