### 2/5 — Disappointing

*2025-09-20*

Update: I have both the digital and print subscription to the LFI Magazine. With the digital subscription, even when logged on, it still has the red box in the middle of the page that offers users a chance to purchase the copy, even if you’re logged on under the account you signed up for the subscription. You have to go through the magazine with the box covering up texts and images. It’s bizarre. Previous review: Sometimes it works, but sometimes it doesn’t. It doesn’t load the magazines in full or the images in them. It has nothing to do with your connection. I’m not sure this is even an active app since Leica has invested more developers into their Leica LUX and Leica FOTOS. It’s disappointing.

**Developer response:** Dear CLight2, thank you for the message. The red box you mention is only visible in the preview, not when you have downloaded the magazine. It looks like you are either not logged in correctly or need to take one more step and download the issue.

The best thing to do is to contact us at: info@lfi-online.de, so we can quickly resolve the issue.

Best regards,
your LFI Team

### 2/5 — Doesn’t Display Images

*2025-05-21*

What is the worth of an app for photography if it doesn’t or can’t display images … none of the galleries work. Use to love this app but lately there’s no reason to have it.

**Developer response:** Dear go2la,
thank you for your message. A new version of the app, which has fixed the bug, has been available since yesterday.
All the best, your LFI team

### 3/5 — Can’t close a magazine once you open it

*2024-01-03*

If you open an issue there is no way to get out of it without deleting the app and downloading it again.

### 2/5 — App allows access to paid content when it feels like it

*2023-11-01, version 3.5.1*

I paid for a one year digital subscription then received an email stating that a registration code would be emailed within two days (weird that instant access isn’t provided but … okay).

Four days pass, I have my code, but the app won’t allow me to gain access without paying for each digital magazine (tried “restore purchases” but no luck). I email LFI, they say it should be working now; I restore purchases again and boom, I have access. Yay.

Lo and behold, two months pass and now it’s happening all over again.

Seriously frustrated,
Me

### 2/5 — Paid Subscription but Impossible to Login on iPad

*2023-07-08*

As the title says, the app refuses to acknowledge my paid subscription. I’ve written twice for support but no response yet after several frustrating days.
I hate to complain, but not accepting my login creds is a disappointing failure on the part of LFI’s team. It’s just an app, after all, shouldn’t be difficult. I will revise this rating if the issue is quickly resolved (the free functions work fine) but will have to unfortunately request a refund if this login issue persists for much longer.

**Developer response:** Hi Jeff, thank you very much for contacting us. It is probably a matter of the device settings. We can certainly solve it very quickly. The best thing is to send us a short email to info@lfi-online.de

### 1/5 — Issues before 2003 won’t show up

*2023-04-17, version 3.5.1*

Issues before 2003 won’t show up

### 1/5 — Beware - archive digital subscriptions don’t seem to work on iPad

*2023-03-31, version 3.5.1*

If you buy a subscription to LFI, the instructions to unlock the digital archive via the LFI all on iPad don’t work. When you hit the $ value as instructed, it just prompts you to buy the magazine, with no ability to submit your subscription code.

It DOES seem to work via the iPhone app, but if you unlock via the iPhone app, it DOESN’T transfer to the iPad.

I email them with no response. I primarily bought the subscription so that i could access the archive on my iPad - frustrated and won’t likely renew because of it.

### 1/5 — Amazing publication crippled by horrible app.

*2022-10-08*

It’s a real shame that this app is as bad as it is given how good the LFI publications are. It’s continually slow and most of the time I am completely unable to download for my subscription. Their servers and in app purchase features need a complete overhaul.

### 2/5 — Unreliable software

*2022-01-25*

I installed it, I click on the Q photo section and I click on one of the first images and… it crashed. Restarted the app, same bug….
Shows the developer of this app does apply modern professional development practices, such as automated testing.

**Developer response:** Dear herge76, thank you for your message. We tried to reconstruct this bug, but could not find anything. Could you please send us more information about your device via email please (info@lfi-online.de), so we can investigate this issue? Thank you!

### 2/5 — Don’t change devices

*2021-09-22, version 3.4.0*

It’s a great magazine but seriously frustrating when you change platforms as the app doesn’t recognise your details once the subscription has been activated on a previous device. Support just ignored the previous help requests. Which is, y’know… unhelpful.

### 3/5 — Great magazine, terrible app (problem fixed)

*2021-05-30, version 3.4.0*

Update May 2021: Navigation issue fixed. I’m glad I can now enjoying my copies of LFI without the navigation bar popping up randomly. Thank you developers!!
Rating updated from 1 to 3 stars.
Question: Is there any way to transfer purchased copies of the magazine to the android app?

It's a magazine I like very much, but the potential of the iPad is lost on this app. The layout of the magazine is unchanged and you have to zoom to read any body text or even view the smaller pics properly, thus spoiling the experience. The absolutely worst aspect is the irritating navigation bar, covering the lower quarter of the display, that pops up every time you touch ANY part of the screen, which, on an iPAD is inevitable. I never use this bar, but am constantly having to dismiss it. Totally ruins the reading experience. A straight up PDF of the magazine would be easier to read than this, without the disastrous pop up. Please, developers, if you're reading this, could you give us the option of disabling your horrendous pop up navigation bar.

### 1/5 — LFI Magazine goes into full screen mode and I can’t get out

*2020-09-07*

With v3.2.1 which was automatically updated 4 days ago on my iPad Pro when I open a LFI magazine it is in full screen mode and I haven’t found a way to get out of it, so I can’t go back to the rest of the LFI App to see other LFI magazine issues, the Blog, News, Gallery etc. I have to re-start my iPad Pro in order to see the LFI menu bar, but can’t go back to read another LFI magazine without having the same problem. I haven’t updated my other iPad to v3.2.1 and that still works as it had in the past. Please fix this!

**Developer response:** Dear Photonrydr,
Just turn the iPad back into the portrait mode. Then the menu will appear again.
Best regards, your LFI team

### 2/5 — Please Bring to Your App Design What You Can do For Cameras

*2020-06-28*

This is truly a disappointing and non-intuitive app

1. I bought a subscription, but just can’t get it to work on the iPad. The iPhone works by asking me if I have a subscription when pressing price. The iPad only does so when I reinstall the app, and the tells me on verification that my subscription cannot be verified (but if works on iPhone) (I have contacted subscriptions, but frankly, the experience should be far more seamless)

2. Getting a full view on the magazine is not intuitive (or at least not to me)

**Developer response:** Dear RelaxinTahiti,
please contact our subscription team at info@lfi-online.de. We will help you solve the issue. Best regards, your LFI team

### 1/5 — Terrible app, terrible technology!

*2020-05-07*

For such an elite camera and glass manufacturer, Leica doesn’t seem to be able to come close with their Fotos and LFI apps!

After purchasing LFI magazine, including the digital download, the only way I can get the download version is to PURCHASE again through iTunes. To compound the matter, the latest version of LFI is ONLY available through a download and is not going to mailed in hard copy.

I’ve tried unsuccessfully to get assistance, all to no avail! Stick to cameras and glass, you do a great job. Technology wise, you’re still in the 1050s!

**Developer response:** Dear DBoychuck,
if you have problems with the app, please use the support service first or write us a mail to info[at]lfi-online.de That way we can help you directly.
To use the free access to the digital LFI issues, you have to register as a subscriber in the app first. Sincerely, your LFI team

### 1/5 — latest download issues...

*2020-01-22*

I downloaded the latest update and now the app does not work; lost years of purchases. I tried to restore purchases and get “app version cannot be found” ...very frustrating experience.

**Developer response:** Dear Positive-K,
first of all: you have lost nothing. Your purchases are linked to your Apple ID and are independent of any device.
If you have problems with the new app version, please send a short info (with information about your device) to the app support or to the info[at]lfi-online.de mail address. We will then deal with the problem quickly.
Best regards, your LFI team

### 1/5 — Can’t access issues

*2019-10-16*

Bought a subscription but the app won’t recognize my subscription number.

**Developer response:** Dear Jem,
If you still have trouble registering as a subscriber, please contact the app support or write an email to info[at]lfi-online.de. We will then deal with the problem quickly. Best regards, your LFI team

### 1/5 — Needs updating

*2018-11-20, version 3.1.0*

No iPhone X plus support, very dated looking:(

### 1/5 — Useless

*2026-04-23, version 4.0.5*

Bought a camera and got 'free' subscription. Signed up but repeatedly unable to login, just keeps saying 'login denied' keep resetting password but still no good. Waste of time.

### 1/5 — Sometimes it works

*2025-09-04*

Sometimes it works, but sometimes it doesn’t. It doesn’t load the magazines in full or the images in them. It has nothing to do with your connection. I’m not sure this is even an active app since Leica has invested more developers into their Leica LUX and Leica FOTOS. It’s disappointing.

### 1/5 — Unknown error occurred

*2025-07-21, version 4.0.4*

Every time I try to download a purchased edition, I see this message: “An unknown error occurred” and the edition is not downloaded.

Several support request messages over three weeks all remain unanswered.

Given that the LFI magazine is supposed to be a bonus for Leica customers, it’s a pity that not only does it now work but that it’s not supported in any meaningful way.

Perhaps I should have taken note of the other low-scoring reviews and set my expectations accordingly.

### 1/5 — was working…

*2025-05-21, version 4.0.2*

not loading photos after update… fix it!

### 1/5 — Poor Unfinished App

*2025-02-17, version 4.0.1*

Great magazine only to be let down by a very poor app

### 1/5 — subscriber and it keeps crashing

*2024-12-07, version 4.0.1*

avoid!

### 1/5 — Dr Seloom

*2024-12-07, version 4.0.1*

App keeps crashing. Waste of time and €.

### 1/5 — Crashes when attempting to load a magazine

*2024-12-07, version 4.0.1*

Does is on iOS 18.1.1 and iPad 18.1.1

### 1/5 — Unable to login - server not responding

*2024-05-15, version 4.0.0*

Unable to login and app not responding even when trying to login on website. Doesn’t even get to user/password prompt. Please resolve.

### 1/5 — Love Leica but this is horrible.

*2024-02-02, version 4.0.0*

I subscribe, pay and then need to put in an apple username and password to download the magazines (never works). Customer service is seemingly non-existent.

I try not to be a Debbie downer and be supporting but I’ve had to come to app reviews to find a way to voice frustration.

### 5/5 — No issues, great magazine!

*2024-01-08, version 4.0.0*

Amazing to see articles from the 1940’s appear on the feed. Inspirational newspaper makes me want to go out and shoot with my M.

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2014-01-19, version 2.0.1*

### 5/5 — A Must for Leica Folks

*2013-08-30*

You have to hand to LFI for coming up with such an all encompassing application to represent their publication. Every issue from 2004 until now is at your fingertips in high resolution with a reasonable price. The app also keeps you updated on fine art photography news and let's you browse the LFI gallery. I think the only thing they have left to achieve is to allow you to access/upload photos to the gallery through the app. If you like beautiful photography and sharp design then this is for you.

### 5/5 — Worth the price of an iPad!

*2013-08-29, version 2.0.1*

If you are not familiar with LFI and you are seriously interested in all things Leica you will be interested to learn that LFI is the most authoritative print based magazine devoted to the marque. Personally I have to say it is a well written beautifully produced magazine but I also have a conscience about shipping paper from onside of the planet to the other. In the same vein I attach quite a lot of guilt to operating a wet dark room in my photographic practise, I have yet to try the Eco developers once I use up the last of the Rodinal... ah! some day, some day. But I digress, I recently acquired an iPad for the sole purpose reading and alleviation of carbon guilt, to my great delight a few days later David Rojkowski has produced a new version of the LFI iPad app that is available from the iTunes App store. It is really a great reading experience on the current iPad, after only an hour with it I have given it 5 stars. At last I can buy the magazine when it is published. At last I can with a quick touch and a slide I can reference Leica news and articles and then return to the magazine without loosing the page. And finally there is a gallery to peruse when all I want to do is look at photographs and wonder... With LFI plus a few other magazines and apps its worth the price of an iPad and the carbon guilt is fading....

### 5/5 — still has issues

*2012-12-05*

start up image should be in a higher resolution especially the leica logo (this is when viewed on an iPad 3 or newer). within a magazine, instead of tapping the screen to bring up the index use a swipe up motion or something, because a good majority of the time when i am swiping to the next page, the bottom index comes up. it's also still a bit slow, not only going from one part of the app to the next, but if you change pages in a magazine too quickly, the following page has to load. aside from these issues the app is pretty good.

### 4/5 — Great App for All Photo Enthusiasts

*2023-07-12, version 3.5.1*

Update: After some initial difficulty, the app works fine and I'm a happy subscriber. The LFI team was quick to resolve my issue and I now have access to the entire digital magazine archive. I heartily recommend subscribing to all who value high-quality photographic imagery and access to the excellent work and stories of so many great photographers.

Only stumble: App cannot be installed on both iOS and android; if you use both (as I do) you will have to choose only one (-1 star).

Aside from that, no issues. Images are rendered beautifully, text is easy to read on my iPad. Lots of info here, lots to explore, well worth the price of entry…

### 4/5 — Has always worked well for me

*2018-11-14*

I’ve never had any issues with this app and I love the magazine. However can we please get an update so it fits the new iPad Pro screen sizes?

### 4/5 — Great app, but ...

*2012-09-05, version 1.0.1*

The only thing I don't like about this app is the swiping in the full screen mode of the gallery, it's "too sticky". You have to physically swipe your finger across the screen, instead of a quick flick of the finger.

If you want an example, have a look at the full screen mode on the FlickStackr app. A quick swipe of the finger is all that is needed. It makes that app a joy to use.

### 4/5 — Magazines look great, but app is laggy even on the new iPad.

*2012-06-27*

The update to retina along with the availability of the LFI past issues at a great rate makes this a fantastic app to own.

However the app is laggy, and just calling up the magazines available to purchase and already purchased takes up a considerable amount of time.

There's still potential for improvements to the user interface.

### 3/5 — All my downloaded Issue Disappeared

*2024-11-30, version 4.0.1*

Today, 11/30/24, I noticed that all the issues I had previously downloaded are gone and are in a “load issue” status. Why? Very frustrating.
